I have been running in the Beast since the mid 80's and never found a reason to change. I am 6'2", weigh 235lbs., pronate, and try to run 5 or times a week for about an hour. Since I am 51 I probably only am putting in about 20 miles a week(I am slow). These shoes have been comfortable and prevent injury, as far as the weight of the shoe, I really never noticed it being heavy. Just my opinion, the Beast is the best shoe ever, and I have never really noticed a whole lot of difference from one version to the next.

Just went for a run in my new Beast. Excellent shoe! Feel great and only will get better as they break in. Feel like I'm running on avery stable and steady shoe.

Have had good luck with Brooks Beast in the past, their motion control helped to prevent recurrence of plantar fasciitus. This recent update, however, has a pointy-shaped toe box that is drastically reduced in both length and width, and I am using width EE! I thought they just needed breaking in, but they continue to torture my feet and now it's too late to return them. It was arrogant of Brooks to surprise their long term customers with such a drastic change in fit and in my opinion they messed up a very successful product. I am waiting for NB 1012 to arrive, no more Beasts for me.

I've worn many different running shoes over the years, and they've all been good, some better than others. The Brooks Beast is one of the best running shoes I've ever owned. Period. Stable, well cushioned. I use them for slower middle to longer distance runs and races and shorter training runs where speed and lightness are not an issue. I didn't need to size up in these at all. I'm not sure where the pointy issues are coming from, mine aren't pointy all. Oh well. I highly recommend the Brooks Beast.

Best shoe I've owned by far. If you have a large frame and are flat footed, this is your shoe. I ran a 5k out of the box and had zero issues. I only went up 1/2 a size when I ordered it.

Great shoe for big guys.Went up a 1/2 size on this model from the previous model. I'm coming off knee surgery with no problems. I like the new color. If it works for you it is a great shoe.

I've worn the Beast for over 8 years and had no problems, this last update is narrower, and started to give me knee problems from the start. I will have to give them up and look for a new brand, sad because loved them.

For my foot, the Beast and Addiction were the finest MC shoes available for many years. Unfortunately, with the latest pointy-toed updates, I find myself squarely in the "fatal design flaw" camp. In fairness, I believe that Brooks is one of the last brands to succumb to this industry-wide idiocy. My guess is that the ridiculous toe shape is caused by intense pressure on the designers to shave a few ounces off of the shoes "official weight". This is the alleged weight of the mens size 9 shoe. So the designers simply put an absurdly pointy and narrow toe on the size 9 shoe, such that the guy with a size 9 foot, will actually need a shoe that is about a 10.5 In this way, the designer appears to be shaving-off weight, but of course it is all ridiculous nonsense. Meanwhile, the end product is rendered entirely worthless to a genuinely flat-footed guy, like myself. It's very simple, I need an MC shoe because I have flat feet. Guess what else is caused by flat feet? A seriously wid

I’m 5’9” 180 lbs and wear an 11-4E Beast 10. I’ve run 8 marathons since 2005 in Beast 4 and Beast 9. I haven’t run a marathon yet in the Beast 10 but have done several 20+ mile training runs in the Beast 10 and I prefer it to the Beast 9, which I didn’t like as much as the Beast 4. I don’t think about my feet at all when I’m running in these. They just feel right and I have no reason to try anything else.

I am a rather large guy, (6'2" 230 lbs) who's flat footed and over pronates. These shoes are the best pair I've ever had. Right out of the box I ran 4 miles and my feet felt like I was running on a cloud. I highly recommend these to larger runners out there. As for the shoe's weight issue, I compared them to my previous pair of running shoes, Nike Men's Zoom Equalon+ 3, and they were only slightly heavier. So I think that it isn't an issue at all.

I am a larger runner. 6'1" 200lbs. I have been running in the Beast for years. The new version is just great. Roomy toebox for my size 11 feet and I can go for a 4 mile run right out of the box with no problems.

I am a REALLY big guy (6'1"-265#) and I am getting back into running. These are a god-send. I quit running it has been a long, hard road back. These shoes are heavy and uncomfortable in the beginning, but they prevent shin splints and other heavy runner problems. I would recommend them to large runners.

I am a serious overpronator. I am a big guy, 5'10" and 218 lbs. If not for the Beast, I would never have continued to run. I have ran 3 marathons with the Beast classic and 9. Beast 10 so far gives me the best feel as it offers much better correction than 9. I am not worried about it being heavy but I sincerely suggest this for any bulky overpronator who wants to run. My running friends even call me Beast because of my shoes!

Decided to give them a try. Currently running in NB 1225. These are really heavy!! Felt that the support was about the same, however the NB seemed to be more responsive during runs. Im a big guy, 6'1 245lbs, and these were not for me. The sock liner is not the same as previous models. Felt like running in boots. I try to log in between 15-20 miles a week. Maybe they are good for a serious overpronator...Bulky, Heavy, Non Responsive, No Heel to Toe Transition, Flat Pancake Like Response.

I keep trying other shoes but always come back to the Beast. Don't care for NB MC shoes. Asics Evolution is too narrow. Very few others in a 4 E size. Some good stability shoes work for up to 13 miles but for long distances and marathons Its always the Beast. The 9's were lighter and less controlling. The 10's are heavier and more controlling. They are also longer and narrower. I wore a 13EE in the 9, but need a 12.5 EEEE in the 10. All in all the Beasts are still the best shoe for me for long - long runs.

I hadn't purchased a pair of the Brooks Beast shoes in a couple of years until recently (June 09). I had purchased 3 pairs previously and really liked this shoe. However, I can tell the QUALITY of the shoe liner is not the same as before. Brooks needs to put the old liner back in the Beast.

I have worn Beast 8 for years and alas no more so I tried Beast 10. While I found them exceptionally comfortable I developed Hip pain within 2 days of wearing. I expereimented switching back to Beast 8 and other footwear until the pain resolved and then tried Beast 10 again only to have the pain return within 2-3 days. Can't figure this out!

I was running with the revised Asics Gel Kayano and having knee and hip problems, switched to teh Beast and the problems all vanished. But, like everyone else has said, you have to size up. And, for some reason, with this shoe, due to the flare on the sole I tend to kick the knob on my ankle while running, which can become painful. But no more knee or hip problems, which is an easy trade to make.

WARNING: If you have a long second toe, this new design may not work for you. I dislike writing a negative review as I've used the Beast for several years and have been very pleased with previous versions. However, the Beast 10, with the same sizing, damaged my second toes after two runs (cracked and bruised toenails). Unfortunately, for me the Beast 10 model is unusable. If you don't have a long second toe this "fatal design flaw" (as characterized by another reviewer) may not affect you. However, if you do my experience suggests that you should skip this version of the Beast.

A revelation. Just what I need for my heavy frame, flat ailing WIDE feet. The cushioning is great and nice style. Echoing others, ONLY wish that in future Beast models they DO NOT make the toebox so POINTY! My feet are too close to the sides -- had to size up .5 to give me more room.

I have low to no arches, I'm 180lbs, 65 yrs. old, run 20mi. per week and have had at least 8 pairs of Beasts. I can run in them straight out of the box, no break-in, no blisters, no injuries. The uppers still look good when the sole is worn out, so then they get used for casual work.

Well, after reading these reviews, I'm a bit skeptable... I went to look at a new pair of "Beasts", and questioned why the toe "looked" "less wide" and was told it was an "illusion"... apparently not from these reviews. I'll have to wear 'em around to be sure my toes are not cramped.....

I need motion control and was a long-time devotee of the NB 1010, which they are now discontinuing. The NB 1011 had too many negative reviews, so I decided to go with the Beast. Mistake. First time running I get blisters because of the pointy-toe design and -- what's worse -- unprecedented knee pain during the run that made it difficult to finish. Sending them back and going to take a shot at the NB 1011's.

Simply love the Beast! Can't leave without 'em. I even wear them to church and at work. I've had the version 9 and then settled for the version 10 late last year. I am 5'10 and 205 lbs; moderate runner. 'Been experiencing painful foot ailments prior to settling with the Beast. Just wished they had the black version in 10.5/4E.

If you've got mutant feet, where your big toes are in the middle . . . There's no room for the big toe while there's 3 sizes extra for the others. This fatal design flaw / pointy toebox ruins what is otherwise be an improvement over the Beast 9. I'm sending them back.

Great shoe! I've worn out numerous pairs of Beast'04's but had to switch when I could no longer get them. The toe box on all subsequent Beast models seemd too wide for me. Now with the Beast 10, the toe box is narrower and the fit feels right. I love the shoe. Guess I need to stock up before Brooks changes them again!

I have 40 miles on these shoes in under a month and my feet feel great!I have very flat feet and weigh 180. These shoes are a little heavy but I would rather have that than have an injury. That is a trade off that I feel good about! I am almost 56 and have been a runner since 1981. I wanted to save my feet and enjoy my retirement (since Feb.) as well and the beast is a great way to do it!!!

I have 100+ miles on this shoe at this point, training for my winter marathon. Prefer fit and flexibility of beast 9. Toe box feels more narrow and I feel more pressure on lateral side of the toe box. It is also appreciably heavier, making it feel more clunky vs the 9. I would switch to the addiction but the toe box is also too narrow. 14-18 miles/week unless marathon training. 6'0", 152 lbs. Beast size 12-2E. I use blue superfeet in all running shoes. 2 pair beast 9: 2 marathons, several halfs 1 pair addiction 7: 1 marathon, couple of halfs

I'm kind of small to running in the Beast- 145 lbs. But I've developed some ankle issues over my years of running and the stability this shoe offers keeps my cranky right ankle happy. I can't say I enjoy running in this heavy shoe as much as the lightweight trainers I used to be able to run in. But I have to give this shoe 5 stars- simply for the fact that they keep me running.

This update is one of the best I have seen of the Beast. This one is more supportive than the last but also more comfortable. I have pretty flat feet and weight about 205 lbs. This shoe corrects my overpronation and lets me enjoy running. The sockliner is also much nicer than what you usually get in a shoe.

I only gave the new Beast a 3 because of the fit. Brooks made the shoe longer and narrower. I loved the fit of the Beast 9, but had to get a wider shoe in the 10. Even still it doesn't fit quite right. The 10 seems higher off the ground, softer and heavier. I think that if I downsized a 1/2 size and go to a wider width the fit will be closer to the Beast 9.

More controlling and stiff than previous version-larger medial post, more rigid midfoot shank and less flexibility in the forefoot. Fit in D was too tight in midfoot due to the super thick, soft sockliner. I switched out the sockliner from prior version and the fit improved. I still prefer the prior beast which had a closer to the ground feel.

Wow. A good update over previous model. Did 2 full marathons and several halfs in last Beast. Just got these but I can say right off they are softer and more comfortable with no decernable loss of support. Still heavy but worth the extra protection if you need it. I am 6", 150 lbs size 12 2-E. Beasts run a half size smaller than an addiction or mizuno renegade, and narrower than a renegade or NB. So I wear 2-E with brooks. I use blue superfeet in all my shoes. I've had a litany of knee, ankle, and ITB pain which have vanished since I started using beasts. This model is a winner and should keep it's 5 stars unless it suddenly falls apart. I doubt that will happen.
