These shoes are perfect for my flat feet and overpronation! I'm on a strict diet and excrise program which is hard enough by itself. So to not have to worry about my knees hurting from the shoes that I'm wearing is a true life saver!

I was suffering from piriformus pain that was getting worse and worse and these shoes were the first pair that made that pain less and eventually fade (well massage therapy helped too)!!

I have worn the Ariel for several years and really liked the previous models. The Ariel 10's caused a hip problem with severe pain and I couldn't run for several days. The shoe is also very stiff and hasn't loosened up. Brooks better fix this model and quickly get out a model 11. In the mean time, I've had to switch brands.

This is the only shoe that works for me, and I've tried many others. They seems tight at first, so I relaced them for a little extra breathing room, and haven't had any problems since.

For those of you having problems with the lacing and "nerve problems" on the top of your feet, try lacing them parallel - (Lace the first two eyelets on the big-toe side of the tongue - not the first eyelet on either side of the tongue like you normally would. Bring the lace from the first eyelet straight across to the first eyelet on the other side of the tongue and push it through. Pull it straight up the side, skipping one eyelet, and thread it through the third eyelet. Pull it straight across the tongue, and push it through the third eyelet on the opposite side. Repeat until all eyelets are laced. Tie.)

I have been wearing this shoe for long-distance and marathon running for many years, since before they switched the name from Beast to Ariel. I am only 140 lbs., but my feet overpronate, and this is the only shoe that is supportive enough to prevent soreness and pain in my hip flexors. I wear them with Thorlo running socks and have never had any problems with blisters or such. The tongue is short enough to stay out of the way of your foot as you run. For those of you having problems with the lacing and "nerve problems" on the top of your feet, try lacing them parallel - (Lace the first two eyelets on the big-toe side of the tongue - not the first eyelet on either side of the tongue like you normally would. I have used Ariels for so long I cannot remember what model number I started with but it was before 6! I cannot stand Ariel 10s. I had to try to find a place to buy an earlier model. Like those who have reviewed previously, it is the tongue on the shoe - causes all sorts of bruising and other problems. Brooks, what were you thinking??!!! Please come out with an updated model with a fixed tongue soon before I have to switch brands!

I would advise not to buy this model of Ariel. I have worn Ariel's for years. This shoe wears out too fast, top bunches up and has made nerve problems on the tops of both my feet. To tolerate them i have to use foam pads, and a callouse cushion on each foot. As the years have gone by I have noticed the padding inside the shoe has become less and less. I think Brooks is cheaping out on quality ,but of course the price is still high isn't it?? .

I have gone through 3 different pairs of the previous Brooks Ariels. I was so sure that Ariels were the right shoe for me, I went ahead and bought 2 pairs of the Ariel 10. Bad decision. The support and cushioning is still great, but the tongue is way too stiff and long. It rubs and presses against the ankle in the most uncomfortable way.

Mon, July 20,2009:
I have been buying Ariels for years and have been pleased up until now. The new version seemed promising, but, after my first few runs I found that something was going on with the tongue/laces-the end result was that my feet were very badly cut up where the laces would tie by my ankle. I hoped that after a few runs my feet would adjust, but they didn't, so I switched to the Mizuno Wave Renegade. Lighter and more flexible, although possibly less supportive-so far I'm happy with them. Hopefully the next Ariel will be better...but for now staying far away from this model

I love my Brooks Ariel 10's. I'm on my third pair. I agree that the 9's were better because I too have had a bit of soreness in my achilles while wearing the latest edition. That's usually only until they're broken in though. I like that the 10's are a bit narrower because it is rather difficult to find motion control shoes that fit average to narrow width feet. I run high mileage, and I need lots of support. In my opinion, these are the most comfortable motion control shoes on the market and provide the highest level of support. My second choice is the New Balance 1011. They're not quite as comfy as the ariel, but they're nice and supportive.

I love the Brooks ARIEL - this is my 4th or 5th pair - but this version is very tight in the toe area and something is off with the heel padding as the achilles tendon is very sore wearing these shoes. I'm off to order something else.

I too have been wearing Brooks Ariel for 3 years and have loved them. When I got version 9, I could not fit my foot into them much less insert my orthotics. They were definitely tight through the forefoot. Despite this, I walked my first marathon only to get numerous blisters. I have sent them back to try the same size but widder.

I've been wearing Brooks Ariel for as long as I can remember and this is the first time I've been unable to run in them. They bruise the top of my foot - it's as if the tongue bunches up or the silver material lining the laces is too stiff. It's awful. I've had to return to wearing my worn-out old ones or I would be hobbling around. Brooks: please fix this and bring on the Ariel 11 before my shoes wear out!

This shoe actually felt good for my plantar fasciitis, but the big, bulky heel caused the anterior tibialis tendon to become very inflamed. I couldn't run for 6 weeks until that healed. I went back to my Asics. Road Runner did take back my used pair of Brooks and sent me a new pair of shoes, no questions asked!!!!

I've been wearing Brooks Ariel for about 5 years and was looking forward to trying version 10 for the first time since it is slightly lighter than version 9. This shoe is not as comfortable as Brooks Ariel 9 and has a lot of tightness in the forefoot. I loosened up the laces considerably (the laces on this version are a bit too short), but this did not solve the problem. I will stick with version 9 until Brooks fixes this problem.

I have literally tried EVERY motion control shoe and this is by far the best! They do not feel heavy at all. I didn't get any blisters and did not experience any rubbing at all. There was no heel slippage. I honestly felt like I could run and run. My legs didn't even feel tired and I didn't experience any knee pain. If you are an overpronator who is prone to blisters please try this shoe!! You will not regret it!

UNBELIEVABLE COMFORT!! I've worn Saucony for years and they never held up due to my being very heavy. These shoes are amazing! I am calling these my 'miracle shoe'! I am able to be on my feet without the burning now! Plus, I'm a supinator (I know these are made for pronators) but trust me, if you supinate these will help! I feel they are more a neutral and balanced shoe than Saucony (which are absolutely made for pronation). The hydro-flow provides a support and cushioning like I've never known before!! For runners the hydro-flow chambers fluctuate the fluid...but if you are heavy and flat footed (which I am) the fluid settles into BOTH chambers and creates a cushion that is like nothing else I've ever experienced. Even my ankles have stopped swelling! I know there are a lot of overweight folks looking for a miracle, too...here it is! I plan on ordering a back up pair!!! What a great shoe!
