My "go to" shoe

4

These shoes help me & my temperamental back work out on a consistent basis. I used to run with these but, due to back issues, I'm using them now as a daily walking shoe. I ran approx 5K 3 times a week & now I'm walking about 2-3 miles 5-6 days a week. I also wear them to the gym & biking. When my back does flare up, these shoes have been the 1 or 2 of the shoes I can wear. My usage of them makes them my "go to" shoe. The drawbacks are price (wow!) & the vanity takes a hit when I have to order a size larger than usual. I also seem to go through them quicker than I'd like (back to price concerns here). I have tried orthotics (soft, store-purchased) with them but not been as happy with it. I just buy a newer pair of shoes instead.

Nearly the best shoe ever

I am a trail runner and I have found that I need a motion control shoe. Unfortunately, I have not found a trail runner/motion control shoe so I have used the Ariel 10 as a trail running shoe. It has been a great shoe! I seem to develop various ankle and hip problems with other shoes, but not with the Ariel 10! It is comfortable and solves my pronation problems perfectly. The only thing it could do better is last a little longer. If the Ariel were build as a trail runner it may last longer for my uses. On the road this shoe may last longer??

Always a great shoe!

5

I love these shoes. I have run in this brand and this model of shoe for almost 10 years now. I switched to a different brand once, and ended up suffering from plantar fasciitis, so I will never deviate again. I am a long-distance runner (half marathons and marathons) and love the cushioning and the pronation control. I do not like the arch support of the shoe, but that is only because I am used to running with my own inserts. All around a great shoe and Brooks is a great brand.

Running is fun again.

5

I went thru many different brands of shoes before I found the Brooks Ariel. With all the other shoes I used to get leg and foot injuries. I was always in pain and wondered if running was for me. I finally found Brooks Ariel and it is the perfect shoe. I can run for hours and never have any pain or injuries. They are the best motion control shoe I've ever owned. I love them so much I buy a couple pairs at a time to make sure I always have them. It makes running fun again.

Can't wait for the Ariel 11

5

I keep having to come back to the Brooks Ariel. I was running in an expensive Saucony shoe that started to cause me pains in my shin and as soon as I started wearing my Brooks shoes the problem has started to subside. They do take a few runs to break the flexibility from back to front in but once you do, they are good to go. Can't wait for the Ariel 11 to arrive at my doorstep! Will let you know what I think after a few runs.

This is a shoe that does what it was designed for. It helps pronation and since wearing them my bones aren't sore anymore. They are very comfortable and they have great shock absorbing qualities. I recommend these shoes to people with pronation problems. I don't have to wear my orthotics when I wear these shoes.

good shoe!

4

I use to suffer from heel pain but not with these shoes, no problems when I wear these shoes. I do use my own insert because the one that comes with the shoe is great but does not have enough arch support. It also is a heavy shoe but other than that the shoe is very supportive and wears well.

Best Product For Orthodics

5

My husband and I have been wearing Brooks runners for about 5 years and we find that they are unsurpassed in terms of durability and comfort. Both of us suffer from arch problems and have been prescribed orthodics which fit beautifully in the runner and allows us to be fully active in performing our Gym exercises.

No more pain in my arches!

5

Last year I suffered from plantar faciitis. I let the condition go too long before seeking treatment and physical therapy. This was the only shoe I could wear that was comfortable and no pain what so ever! I love my Ariels (I had the Ariel 9 previously and now I have the 10). I plan on getting another pair since I have worn these out. I have not experienced the problems that others have mentioned. I tried the New Balance 1011 as an option, but these were so much more comfortable. The New Balance were good, but nothing compared to the Ariel 10. I do use an insert with them (doctor recommended).

excellent for pronated runners

5

I injured my left foot running in worn out shoes, and since then have relied on these Brooks Ariels to prevent a re-occurance. The keep my feet from rolling inwards & don't feel like I'm wearing clunky orthotic shoes. I've been wearing these for 3 years now, and my feet are injury free!

Improves my posture

4

This shoe helps correct a curvature of the spine problem that I have by keeping my feet and legs in proper position. While I believe I could be more comfortable in a shoe with more give, this shoe does seem to keep my back straight still at the end of the day.

Relief of pain

5

I was having hip pain from running before I got these shoes. Roadrunner recomnended these for pronation control and my pain was gone! Just bought a second identical pair. I run 1-2x a week for a total of 6-10 mi./wk. They told me to order a half size large, which was correct.

Excellent shoe for Overpronators

5

Since I started wearing the Ariel, I have had very little ankle and foot pain. It has excellent arch support. Like all motion control shoes, it has a more boxey appearance and weighs a little more. Great support.

Second pair with this model. These were suggested to help with high arches, bunion and a problem with a stress fracture. I walk six+ miles per day, 365 days per year, and they have proven durable and my orthopedic issues are resolved.

I have been wearing this shoe for long-distance and marathon running for many years, since before they switched the name from Beast to Ariel. I am only 140 lbs., but my feet overpronate, and this is the only shoe that is supportive enough to prevent soreness and pain in my hip flexors. I wear them with Thorlo running socks and have never had any problems with blisters or such. The tongue is short enough to stay out of the way of your foot as you run. For those of you having problems with the lacing and "nerve problems" on the top of your feet, try lacing them parallel - (Lace the first two eyelets on the big-toe side of the tongue - not the first eyelet on either side of the tongue like you normally would. Bring the lace from the first eyelet straight across to the first eyelet on the other side of the tongue and push it through. Pull it straight up the side, skipping one eyelet, and thread it through the third eyelet. Pull it straight across the tongue, and push it through the third e

UNBELIEVABLE COMFORT!! ...

UNBELIEVABLE COMFORT!! I've worn Saucony for years and they never held up due to my being very heavy. These shoes are amazing! I am calling these my 'miracle shoe'! I am able to be on my feet without the burning now! Plus, I'm a supinator (I know these are made for pronators) but trust me, if you supinate these will help! I feel they are more a neutral and balanced shoe than Saucony (which are absolutely made for pronation). The hydro-flow provides a support and cushioning like I've never known before!! For runners the hydro-flow chambers fluctuate the fluid...but if you are heavy and flat footed (which I am) the fluid settles into BOTH chambers and creates a cushion that is like nothing else I've ever experienced. Even my ankles have stopped swelling! I know there are a lot of overweight folks looking for a miracle, too...here it is! I plan on ordering a back up pair!!! What a great shoe!

I love my Brooks Ariel ...

5

I love my Brooks Ariel 10's. I'm on my third pair. I agree that the 9's were better because I too have had a bit of soreness in my achilles while wearing the latest edition. That's usually only until they're broken in though. I like that the 10's are a bit narrower because it is rather difficult to find motion control shoes that fit average to narrow width feet. I run high mileage, and I need lots of support. In my opinion, these are the most comfortable motion control shoes on the market and provide the highest level of support. My second choice is the New Balance 1011. They're not quite as comfy as the ariel, but they're nice and supportive.

2

I would advise not to buy this model of Ariel. I have worn Ariel's for years. This shoe wears out too fast, top bunches up and has made nerve problems on the tops of both my feet. To tolerate them i have to use foam pads, and a callouse cushion on each foot. As the years have gone by I have noticed the padding inside the shoe has become less and less. I think Brooks is cheaping out on quality ,but of course the price is still high isn't it?? .

2

I have gone through 3 different pairs of the previous Brooks Ariels. I was so sure that Ariels were the right shoe for me, I went ahead and bought 2 pairs of the Ariel 10. Bad decision. The support and cushioning is still great, but the tongue is way too stiff and long. It rubs and presses against the ankle in the most uncomfortable way.

I have literally tried EVERY motion control shoe and this is by far the best! They do not feel heavy at all. I didn't get any blisters and did not experience any rubbing at all. This shoe actually felt good for my plantar fasciitis, but the big, bulky heel caused the anterior tibialis tendon to become very inflamed. I couldn't run for 6 weeks until that healed. I went back to my Asics. Road Runner did take back my used pair of Brooks and sent me a new pair of shoes, no questions asked!!!!

Wonderful sneaker. Immediate comfort in my lower back once I put these on. Supports the pronation very well! Comfort on the ball of the foot. Only suggestion would be to make the same model w/out the "airy" toes for winter walking.

1

I have been buying Ariels for years and have been pleased up until now. The new version seemed promising, but, after my first few runs I found that something was going on with the tongue/laces-the end result was that my feet were very badly cut up where the laces would tie by my ankle. I hoped that after a few runs my feet would adjust, but they didn't, so I switched to the Mizuno Wave Renegade. Lighter and more flexible, although possibly less supportive-so far I'm happy with them. Hopefully the next Ariel will be better...but for now staying far away from this model

I have worn the Ariel for several years and really liked the previous models. The Ariel 10's caused a hip problem with severe pain and I couldn't run for several days. The shoe is also very stiff and hasn't loosened up. Brooks better fix this model and quickly get out a model 11. In the mean time, I've had to switch brands.

I have used Ariels for so long I cannot remember what model number I started with but it was before 6! I cannot stand Ariel 10s. I had to try to find a place to buy an earlier model. Like those who have reviewed previously, it is the tongue on the shoe - causes all sorts of bruising and other problems. Brooks, what were you thinking??!!! Please come out with an updated model with a fixed tongue soon before I have to switch brands!

I've been wearing Brooks Ariel for as long as I can remember and this is the first time I've been unable to run in them. They bruise the top of my foot - it's as if the tongue bunches up or the silver material lining the laces is too stiff. It's awful. I've had to return to wearing my worn-out old ones or I would be hobbling around. Brooks: please fix this and bring on the Ariel 11 before my shoes wear out!

I've been wearing Brooks Ariel for about 5 years and was looking forward to trying version 10 for the first time since it is slightly lighter than version 9. This shoe is not as comfortable as Brooks Ariel 9 and has a lot of tightness in the forefoot. I loosened up the laces considerably (the laces on this version are a bit too short), but this did not solve the problem. I will stick with version 9 until Brooks fixes this problem.
