After one run I can say ...

By Matt S

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 301:

After one run I can say the physical unit works fine. But the software is AWFUL! It took me hours to find out that the CD had an old version of the software that did not work with Windows XP. The Training Center software does NOT include street level maps, Gamin wants over $100 additional for those. Fortunately, there is something called SportTracks that reads in Garmin data and does have maps. Like a previous poster, I called customer service and wound up on hold for 30 minutes. This company has serious problems.

I have tried the Timex ...

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 301:

I have tried the Timex Bodylink system for the past 50 miles and compared it to the Garmin 301 forerunner. I will be sending back the Timex and getting this 301. Reasons: Awesome free webpage support, training software included, built in data logger, mapping interface is awesome, graphical real time map, workout statistics awesome, complicated but for the data junkie - no better product out there, as impressive for runners and bikers - size is only issue, but still, compact considering the real time mapping - present discounts get the Garmin to $204(I am trying to get RRS to get their price down) which is cheaper than Timex by a mile even without adding the Timex data logger (another $70). For the ultimate Nerd gadget and training feedback source, go the 301 route...nothing on the market can match it.

The GPS unit is wonderful ...

Comments about Garmin Forerunner 301:

The GPS unit is wonderful and better than anything else of the market. The heart rate monitor is useless as I had three different units and the heart rate monitor was inaccurare on all of them and sometimes did not even work. Get the 201 and use a polar for the HRM or just get the Polar 625X and use the food pod.
