I use mine for a regular watch without using the gps, and like the touch feature. It's much less clunky than the old models. I too found the set up takes a little getting used to but like it now.

My Garmin 405 experience has been nothing short of disappointing. It has always operated with glitches but the last several weeks have been nothing short of a useless device. Two weeks ago, I did a 100 mile bike ride and the file was completely lost. After that, none of the rides that I have done were recorded or downloadable. Instead, I would get these completely fragmented files that shows points in the middle of Russia or Iran saying I have done some 125,000 miles. I have done a system reset. I have also deleted out all the files on the Garmin. Lastly, I updated the software with the software update. And I also made sure that I was updating the 405 and not another device. After that, the device still could not function. I am sure that there are others that are happy with their 405 but I can only speak from my experience. And based on that, it is a very unreliable method of recording your workouts. And if it's an important event like a race, it is not worth the extra stre

hmmm, interesting comments on this watch. I too was unsure about the touch bezel, takes a bit getting used to after running with the 305. You do need to turn off the GPS if you want to wear it for casual use, otherwise the battery runs down too fast. I think some people don't understand that, but works for me.

Over the years I've had every running Garmin they've made. After putting up with this one for almost a year - I qucikly dumped it as soon as the 310 cam out. I could put up with the small screen and screwy way the bevel worked. But about an hour into any run your sweat will total confuse the touch sensitive bevel - and nothing works. Garmin's answer was to tell me to 'lock' the bevel when right after I started running. sort of defeats the purpose of alot of the other features. No acknowldgement by Garmin that this is a poorly designed instrument. Don't waste your money on this.

Battery problem fixed with a firmware update. I had the same problem with the battery discharging that Dave mentions. There is a fix posted on the Garmin website. Just need to download and install the new code. No more problems.

This is the second 405 that I've bought. On both, the battery will not hold a charge for more than a day and still have enough to work out in the afternoon. On the first watch, the battery meter showed 100%, which means it should last about (8) hours. An hour and a half into my three hour run, it died out. Definitely would not recommend.

I use this on each and every run and am so glad that I bought it. It is well worth the money, gives me everything I need training wise and more, and fits well on my wrist. All the previous versions were way too bulky. It's a must buy if you're training for a big race!

So I wrote a review on this a bit ago and I would like to take it back. Although I did not buy this watch through the greatest running store on the planet. I had an issue with the back button breaking. I'm in the military and tend to not be so gentle with my accessories. I got my replacement in a timely manner and had many options for sending it back. On to the watch!! Great running tool. I'm a bit of a Geirdo so it helps me get up and go. I would recommend getting the Garmin Training Center software (free on garmin website) when you get this watch. For me it is awesome. Draw back is that I can't figure out how to put 2+ runs on one graph. I use the workouts functions every run. And it'll beep at you when you need to start a new step. So cool. The Bezel is sensitive but that is all in how you set it up. So I've had mine about a month now and love it. I Truly recommend this product to everyone.
