Over the years I've had ...

By Richard M

Comments about Garmin 405 No HRM Monitor:

Over the years I've had every running Garmin they've made. After putting up with this one for almost a year - I qucikly dumped it as soon as the 310 cam out. I could put up with the small screen and screwy way the bevel worked. But about an hour into any run your sweat will total confuse the touch sensitive bevel - and nothing works. Garmin's answer was to tell me to 'lock' the bevel when right after I started running. sort of defeats the purpose of alot of the other features. No acknowldgement by Garmin that this is a poorly designed instrument. Don't waste your money on this.

By Dave

from Undisclosed

Comments about Garmin 405 No HRM Monitor:

This is the second 405 that I've bought. On both, the battery will not hold a charge for more than a day and still have enough to work out in the afternoon. On the first watch, the battery meter showed 100%, which means it should last about (8) hours. An hour and a half into my three hour run, it died out. Definitely would not recommend.

Comments about Garmin 405 No HRM Monitor:

I bought this Garmin without the HRM. It gives an accurate reading and there's not complicated math. It does take a minute to locate sattelites but I think that's normal with all Garmin products. I went on a run without it once and I could barely concentrate. This purchase was worth every penny.

Comments about Garmin 405 No HRM Monitor:

This is my second 405. The software on my first one screwed up after three years of use. I would not have bought another one except the reduced price made it worthwhile.

The 405 is great if you want something for both cycling and running. I do a lot of Crossfit and interval type workouts and the software is great for tailoring my workouts so I'm not constantly looking at my watch. It is smaller than the 305 and cheaper than the 310XT. It is not a tri watch like the 310, but it is easy to workaround that for brick workouts.

Comments about Garmin 405 No HRM Monitor:

I've had the Garmin 405 for about 3 weeks now. In terms of training, the watch is pretty good. You get your pace, distance, etc in real time - which can be very helpful to people who find it hard to pace themselves. For racing, I found the watch a little distracting, but that's my personal opinion. I was simply checking it too often.
The watch is sensitive to water. I haven't had anything stop working on me, but I noticed when the bezel got wet the watch stopped responding, or responded slowly. It was fine after a few minutes though.
I have small wrists and the watch is pretty big. it's not that uncomfortable, just big.
Starting up I had some trouble figuring out how to use the watch & software, but it's pretty simple. I haven't gotten into the more complicated features offered, but I am looking forward to doing so.
If you're a serious or consistent runner, this watch is worth it.

Comments about Garmin 405 No HRM Monitor:

So I wrote a review on this a bit ago and I would like to take it back. Although I did not buy this watch through the greatest running store on the planet. I had an issue with the back button breaking. I'm in the military and tend to not be so gentle with my accessories. I got my replacement in a timely manner and had many options for sending it back. On to the watch!! Great running tool. I'm a bit of a Geirdo so it helps me get up and go. I would recommend getting the Garmin Training Center software (free on garmin website) when you get this watch. For me it is awesome. Draw back is that I can't figure out how to put 2+ runs on one graph. I use the workouts functions every run. And it'll beep at you when you need to start a new step. So cool. The Bezel is sensitive but that is all in how you set it up. So I've had mine about a month now and love it. I Truly recommend this product to everyone.

Comments about Garmin 405 No HRM Monitor:

I told my husband that this was the best gift he has ever given me. It is easy to figure out how to use, and will make my life so much easier not having to map out running routes in the car as I train for a marathon. I love how I can review my runs online and see my splits, the elevation of where I ran, and so much more. There are lots of features I haven't even used yet. The only negative is that it is a bit masculine looking because it is pretty big and it is black(I'm not a girly girl, but wish that it came in pink or something!) I have small bony wrists, so it took a little getting used to wearing it, but overall, I love it!

Comments about Garmin 405 No HRM Monitor:

The Garmin 405 is truly a marvelous product. It has helped me more accurately stick to training paces in my marathon training, and is a great resource for knowing how well I am doing in a race. The touch bezel is easy to use (I haven't had any trouble using it), and the custom screen settings in training mode allow me to see up to nine data fields during a run. The upload feature allows very detailed analysis of a run after the workout or race, and is useful for analyzing routes and performance. I highly recommend this product for anyone looking to improve accuracy in pace and race timing.

Excellent tool. I use it for training runs and regular 5k to 10k races. It has a quick set-up, is easy to use, and provides reliable readings. I can now just take off for a run without having to guessimate distance. Also, having a pace readily available provides extra motivation when my speed begins to slack.
