Strap on watch broke after 12 days of normal use. I run 5 days a week at 20-25 miles a week. Short battery life is another negative. Watch features are incredible and online software is easy to use. Lack of color selection and inability to swim with watch is a large negative. Purchase at your own risk.

Just got one for Christmas! Works great - best piece of equipment I've ever had. The unit was easy to set up and operate. The on-line support which shows the various readings taken during your bike ride / run are amazing!! I would definitely recommend this to anyone!! ** I read some other posts referencing a "foot pod" - not sure what they are talking about; because this item DOES NOT have a "foot pod".** The only extra items (other than a charger cord with various plug-ins) are (1) a thumb drive to connect the watch with the computer and (2) a chest strap for the heart rate monitor function.

Great watch, reasonable priced too. Apart from postman dropping it at the door, all was well!

I have put 50 miles on the watch, footpod, and hrm so far here in Afghanistan. The only problem I have come across so far was the footpod shipped with a dead battery. Aside from that, everything functions perfectly.
This was a step-up from the Nike+ Fit that I had been using previously with my iPod.
At the end of the day, the Garmin 405cx has worked perfectly for me and will be purchasing the bike adapter here VERY soon so use while MTB.

Used for over a week (60+ miles) now. Bezel is sensitive but can be locked. I had to contact Garmin to get the previous version of Ant agent since the one currently available is not compatible with the 405CX. Moved from a Polar RS400SD to the Garmin. Love not needing a footpod and the extra batteries to run, however Garmin Connect and Garmin Training Center have minimal information compared to Polar Pro-Trainer software. If Garmin would update/upgrade the software to be as customizable and informative as Polar's Pro-Trainer I would give this watch a 5. Recommend this watch for someone that just wants to keep basic information and maybe do a little advanced training. If you want a whole running package (watch + software) I would definately recommend the Polar RS400 or RS800.

Had this a week. Still haven't gotten been able to synch to the foot pod for pacing (strikes per minute), nor to my PC for history/mapping/graphing/reference. This has been a frustrating and time consuming gadget.

20+ miles/wk runner. Bought the 405 for my wife who runs 40/wk. GPS is a very slow catching up with current running pace compared to my 305 which works great. The bezel is also super sensitive to touch and rather non-intuitive. Like the 305 much better despite it's bulkier appearance. The 405 although it looks smaller in the picture is still rather bulky.
