It lets me go wherever I want know without a designated path to get bored with. triathletes dream! little larger than my ironman watch of course but you sacrifice for the flexibility and data this provides. Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: I had my 310XT for 2 years, then finally the strap ripped out of the watch just like many of the other reviews. I used it 4-5 times a week and on ultra runs for up to 100 miles. Battery lasted me 18 hours on the 100 miler. I loved it until the band ripped out rendering it virtually useless. Ended up upgrading to the 910XT which seems to be better quality. I think the 310XT has been discontinued, probably due to the durability issues, so now is a great time to get a good deal, but don't expect your $250 investment to last longer than a year or two.

Best Uses Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: While it worked, this was a great monitor. After a few years use, the wristband tore off, at whioh time I discovered the only thing holding in the pins was a thin layer of rubber on the side of the monitor that was now torn open and, as far as I can tell, beyond repair. There should be much better reinforcement. Also, I would never go back to the ANT system, which I found quirky and sporadic. My replacement will have to use a USB connection.

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: For reference, I'm a 3-to-4 times a week runner, a typical weekday run is 7 miles, and I run the same routes repetitively. That means I get to measure the same route many times with the GPS watch. What I notice is that the 310 is twice as precise as my 200-series watch (and other 200 series watches I've run with). The distances measured by the 310 for a given route have a standard deviation of about 1 part in 430, whereas, my measurement of the 200-series precision is about 1 part in 200.

Cons Best Uses Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: So far it is great. Had it since August. I have used 2 other Garmin units during that time. I love the battery life with the 310XT. It has allot of features on this unit so be careful because it will drain the battery fast. But if you just use it to run and download to Garmin it is great!

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: I purchased the Garmin 310XT after my Forerunner 205 stopped working. I used the 310XT at least 3-4 times per week. In less than 60 days, the hard plastic where the strap attaches cracked. The strap would no longer stay in tact. I contacted Garmin and was able to return it for a new one. However, I had to pay the shipping to return the defective product. I was also made aware that if it had not cracked within the first 60 days, I would have been sent a "completely overhauled" unit. I inquired as to what that meant, and was told it meant a refurbished unit. I was also told that if something happened to the brand new 310XT, I would be sent a refurbished one, since I had passed the initial 60 days. The warranty did not start over with the new unit.

Cons Best Uses Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: I was looking for a relatively inexpensive watch to replace my Forerunner 405. I wanted something without a bezel control, and with long battery life. This was the perfect watch based on its description (20 hours battery, control buttons on the front). I've had it for 3 weeks so far and I love it. I'm training for a marathon so I'm running 5 times a week.

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: My Garmin 305 that I had used for years died due to wear and tear on the buttons. This watch is an improved version of the 305 where the buttons are totally encased and protected from the elements (my sweat). It is easy to program, easy to use and I wear it on all of my runs.
Pros
Cons Best Uses Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: I originally had a 305, I then bought the 405 which was a disaster. Funky bezel controls were absolutely horrible. The 310XT is basically an upgraded 305 which is why I bought it. Easy to use, easy to set up, I like the larger display & it doesn't feel bulky to me. It linked up perfectly with my old HR monitor. I did have some trouble getting it to download data but I had a corrupt file on my computer. It did take two calls to Garmin but both guys were excellent.

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: When my ever-trusty Garmin Forerunner 205 finally stopped after 6 years, I was looking for a new Garmin. I bought the 610 - and found myself missing the shape and the display of my 205 - and the 610 just wasn't as user friendly to me. I like the bigger display and the buttons. I feel like I have my old watch back - but better -and that is how I like it.

Best Uses Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: I had a 305 since 2007, it is on it's last leg, very happy with the 310. Very similar in function. Wish it was slightly smaller as I have a small wrist. Only used it for running, but like the options for cycling and swimming.

Best Uses Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: The GARMIN FORERUNNER 310XT was a great product while it worked. Mine stopped receiving satellite signal about A WEEK AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED!! I think a gadget that costs [$](incl. tax) should last way longer then a year. Garmin will only repair the unit for a hefty price. REALLY FOLKS????? In an age where one can get really good workout and GPS aps for free, you would think a company like GARMIN would stand behind their product. I will never purchase another GARMIN product EVER AGAIN!!!!

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: The watch is great it takes time to set up and to learn how to use it. Works great to pace yourself on the bike and run but as far as swimming it is a challenge it will not count laps correctly but it will track distance and time also for triathlons it will help you to push yourself for faster transition times.

Best Uses Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: Although I already own the Garmin 305, I purchased this watch because I want to get more into triathlon. I already had the heart rate strap so I got this model and my old strap works fine with it. I went all out and bought the foot pod (treadmill use) and the bike mount quick release kit. Although with the quick release kit you have to replace the awesome strap that comes with the watch with a clearly inferior strap for the quick release kit, I am happy to report I love the bike mount. Easy to read and I bought the cadence/speed sensor and I really feel that this has helped me improve my time on the bike. I am no longer guessing at cadence but can see and track it.

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: I debated between 410 and 310XT, I received the 410 first but didn't think it was all that improved against 405. 310XT arrived soon after and wow, I really love it. It's very simple to use and everything about the monitor is right – ease of viewing, ease of operation, ease of uploading and record, perfect 10!

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: I upgraded to the Forerunner 310XT from the Forerunner 305 (which I happily used for 3-4 years). Because of the long hours of training with triathlons and the desire to wear it throughout the race, including the swim, the 310XT was the best option.

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: Most effective way to manage your workouts and know if you are improving, or hitting your targets. Download data to further analyze. Easy to use and customize for your data fields to keep you on rack for race day. If you race, you need to own this toy!

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: One of the best things I ever purchased for running hands down. I don't ever leave home without it. Simple to use, program, and also easy to analyze all your data. Accurate but can be off 1/25 of mile or so depending on the topography. It is very durable (dropped many times) and waterproof which is vital for an outdoor running watch. Alarms can be noise, vibration, or both. The size is large but only because it makes the screen easy to read especially when your moving. The screen (as with almost everything) can be customized to the exact read-outs that you want to see. If a serious outdoor runner this is the best product out on the market. Every dollar is worth it on this quality product.

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: I use the 310 everyday mostly for running. I purchased it also because I might start doing Triathlon's next year. This is waterproof so I don't have to worry about it in the rain or sweat. It works exactly as described. I do wish that the garmin connect program was more detailed.

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: I use it to track my training runs; my open water swims. I even use it tell me how far I ran during a soccer match I officiate. I upgraded from the Forerunner 205 because the 310XT is water resistant. I use the Forerunner 205 as a back-up unit, incase I forget to charge up the 310XT. I like the wireless data transfer, quick battery charching, comfotable strap, added training features, and did I mention, it vibrates. Pros

It is awsome to be able to connect to the computer wirelessly and look at your profile, pace, distance, time etc... I am looking forward to using it during a running event, I struggle with my pace and I know my Garmin will help. [...] Pros

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: I have owned the Garmin 101 and 205 previously. Loved the functionality of both but not size. Decided against the 405 due to reviews and went with 310. No regrets! Little smaller than 205 so fits better (I am a small frame female). Love the versatility of training features and "growth" options as I am considering a sprint tri in the future. Highly recommend for all runners! If you have used other Garmins, set-up is quick and easy, love the vibration option so when listening to headphones I still know when I hit mile marks. Only complaint was cost but not all that different than other models and the $50 mail in rebate was the selling point for me. Pros

Comments about Garmin 310XT w/o HR Strap Monitors: The Garmin 310XT is about as uncomfortable as wearing a wristwatch. You will hardly notice it is there, unless you enjoy checking your statistics as your workout: speed, average pace and distance. With relative ease, you can wirelessly transfer your run data from your watch to the Garmin Connect website, and thoroughly analyze a map and the statistics for all your runs, all for free. You can even share this data with your training partners. Pros
