Garmin Got It Right with the 210

5

I consider myself somewhere between the casual/recreational and avid athlete categories, but not a "gym rat." I jog an average of 3.5 miles about every other day. I run a few 5Ks each year, but mainly jog by myself. I travel a fair amount, and have used Garmin Forerunners (205, 405, and now the 210) on six continents (all but Antarctica). I used a Forerunner 405 for over a year, but got fed up with the touch-sensitive bezel: almost every time I jogged with it, something unexpected (often bad) happened when the bezel was falsely activated. The 210 is smaller/lighter, finds satellites fast, and has all the features I need. And it's less expensive than the 405. I have a foot pod for indoor tracks, and use it for cadence data even when I'm using the GPS for location tracking, pace, and distance. The charging/download cable clip connection to the 210 is a little hard to get used to, and has to be reconnected once in a while, but I've used the 210 for over a month now and have gotten the hang of it. I use Garmin Training Center on my laptop to upload and store 210 data and Google Earth to produce location tracks.

Love it

Had been wanting a GPS watch & doing research for ages. I finally decided on the forerunner 210 and ordered it 1 week before running a half marathon in San Francisco. I wasn't sure about being able to figure out the features & worried about satellite reception. It was so easy! Loved being able to glance at my pace. It picked up satellite without any problem. I tried it in downtown SF the nite before and it did struggle- I think because of the buildings. But for the run it was no problem. The only thing I ran into was the auto lap feature, which will pause & display the lap time you can customize. Because it paused so long after the first mile, I thought maybe I had to restart each mile. After the third I realized if I left it alone it would just roll over, I had about 17 laps recorded for 13 mi due to me panicking and pushing every possible button. Thankfully it was smarter than me and just kept going. I'm excited to keep using it- I think it will be by new favorite running gear. I only gave it 4 stars since I can't speak about the durability. And like everyone says, the 4 pin charging system is ridiculous. But it's worked okay.

Good So Far!

4

I purchased this to help me in my training for a Half Marathon this coming May. I was tired of guessing how far I was actually running, and I had no idea what my actual lap pace was. This GPS is great. I was able to figure things out by reading the online manual plus the PROs/CONs listed on Amazon for this GPS were quite helpful too. I love connecting it to my computer too and actually seeing the aerial view of where I ran and what my statistics were for each mile of the run. It is a little tricky as to how it connects to be charged, but I am learning how to do it more quickly. This is a great toy for a runner, and I wish I would have purchased it earlier because I have been running farther than I estimated. I bought the anniversary special one which is white/green. I love it! Let's just hope it lasts.

Excellent value for GPS watch

PROS: DURABLE - used/abused over a year, have dropped it several times with no ill effects, still like new EASY TO USE - takes only a few minutes to get the hang of the basics, e.g. distance, pace, history, records, autolap COMFORTABLE - size is perfect for me, large enough to read but not bulky enough to be a nuisance FEATURES - offers walk/run, autolap, maintains history, notifies at lap or mile mark. AND CONS: Sometimes it struggles to get initial signal - recommend planning ahead, work on getting signal while warming up Doesn't show current pace Specialized charger can be cumbersome, one more thing to pack when traveling, and a bit pricey to obtain a backup No way to replace strap (although it shows no signs of wear after a year)

solid gps watch-good battery life

4

I was looking for a GPS watch to help with training for an upcoming ultramarathon. All I wanted was something easy to use and that would give me the hours of battery life needed for long training runs and to use for multiple runs between charges when traveling for work. I've been able to do about 5 separate runs in a week- totaling >30 miles + standby time without needing to charge the battery, so it seems to be living up to the 5-6 hours/charge claim. The watch will also automatically go into standby after several minutes with the timer stopped, so you cant accidentally for get to turn the GPS off and ruin your battery half way through a trip. would definitely recommend.

Underwhelmed

3

This watch is great, unless you're training/running a marathon with Galloway. The watch only held a charge for the first 22 miles of my marathons and then died. Every. Single. Time. The battery doesn't last for more than a couple of runs. It's strangely difficult to charge the watch and if you set it down on a surface to charge, it loses contact with the charging surfaces. On one marathon, the watch randomly zapped out when I started it, showing a bunch of random characters. Ten miles in, it turned back on and started tracking my run, but lost .3 every mile.

Very happy

I've debated for years about getting a garmin watch. All my running friends had different series & just didn't need one. But I finally decided to get the 210 and so far Im so glad I did & very excited. I received on a Friday, charged it and learned the basics and used for 16 mile run next morning. It helped that a friend wearing hers could point out info. Then went online and registered, downloaded run. It's amazing to see what all it does!Alot of good info online.

Excellent customer service

5

I haven't used the product yet, but I like that it has a rechargeable battery, although I am not so sure about the charger connections - I am concerned that this might 'fail' after repeated use. On it's first charge, I had to reposition the charger a few times to get it to work. I also find the watch to be quite large for my small wrist. It is definitely more suited to a man's wrist than a woman's, but thankfully the strap adjusts small enough for me.

Forerunner 210

4

Had the 405, and did not like the bezel. My husband ordered me a 110 forerunner. I returned it. It did not have current pace:(. Would not recommend that one at all. I do like the 210 a lot. My favorite one. The only worry I have with it, is that it could get corroded with salt from sweating at the connection to charge. Other wise love the Garmin 210.

A great value and a great watch

5

This is a really nice watch. Not the lowest-priced but solid, dependable and useful. The data it collects is terrific, and the way it archives and displays on the Garmin website is great. I use this watch for marathon training, and it's been a terrific value for my uses. Worth the extra $50 if you are looking at some lower-priced models.

Functional and stylish! Love this Garmin

5

I am a marathon runner and I FINALLY replaced my clunky first generation Garmin. My first Garmin was not broken and I continued to use it but WHAT A DIFFERENCE WITH MY NEW GARMIN. It fits my wrist perfectly, the strap is comfortable and easy on/off and all display information easy to read and use.

Difficult to charge and upload

2

This watch is very sensitive to charge. It takes me up to 30 mins playing with the charger on the watch to "catch a charge" or transfer my runs. It has become time consuming and each time I plug my watch onto the charger I always wonder if it will work. Very tempramental. I would not buy this watch again.

My First Garmin

5

I use the Garmin 210 on all my long runs because my phone battery doesn't last long enough! I prefer to use my apps to track my runs, but the Garmin 210 is great. Very easy to use, just seems to need a lot of charging.

5

Like it but it doesn't pause when I stop running. And also have a hard time with the USB connection when it's time to upload my runs. I wish it would have that option of auto pause when I stop running for admire or two. Otherwise it's an awesome garmin watch.

Good GPS

4

I have had my 210 for almost 11 months. I did have to have a factory reset on it 2 times. But for reasons most people would not have noticed. The 210 has out lasted my 610 which only lasted 9 months. If this would go out today I would buy another 210.

Very nice

I have almost 300 miles so far on my 210 in 2 months. Ran a marathon with it. Best thing I like about it is the lap feature and it beeps at every mile. Wish the band could be replaced if it broke. But over all it is a very good GPS.

It fits great on my small wrist and stays securely in place. I wanted a watch for the purpose of tracking heart rate, mileage, pace. It does all perfectly.

This is a very good product, is easy to use and reliable. Garming connect site is great to track your progress. Is not too fast to find the satellite signal.

Good, no frills running GPS

Limited data fields. For example, you can't switch between lap pace and average pace when you are running.
