Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

Second pair of Hoka's, the first were the Conquests (diff review). These shoes are awesome as far as cushion and ride are concerned. My feet (more on that later) and body feel great after any type of run whether it was a long run or speed work. The durability seem on par with the Conquests I tried first. Although, I do have a response to some of the folks that doubt the durability of the Hoka's - are you serious? I admit the little rubber areas on the soles will wear through fairly quickly as compared to other brands but this in no way has anything to do with durability. Have you noticed how thick the soles and grooves are?!?!?! It would take a couple thousand miles to wear these dudes slick! I'm 205# and 6'-4" with high arches and put 530 miles on the Conquest before I started feeling it in my calves. That's at least 100 ++ miles more than ANY other shoe I have ran in. Big guys like me are ruff on running shoes. Now, the big killer about this shoe for ME. Consider that I may have weird feet and this need not apply across the board. The tongue connection in the right shoe is painful to the tops of my toes. Constant pressure the entire run - no rubbing or chaffing just constant pressure. There were a couple other reviewers with same report. I am somewhat hammer-toed but in both feet. No problems with left shoe. The other problem - the cut of the ankle on the left shoe is taller than the right and digs into that ankle. I somewhat remedied that with an extra insole. It really needs another to not be bothersome but then my foot is too snug throughout. Why should I have to do that anyway. These are going back as soon as the backordered Clifton's arrive (hope they don't have fit issues). At any rate these are awesome shoes that I would love if not for the 2 issues above. I am definitely a Hoka fan but I cant jump on the bandwagon for the Bondi 3's.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

This was the first time I tried a Hoka One One. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't for me. I had been wearing NB Foam, this shoe felt like I was really far from the road. I was missing something in my run...the ground. If I didn't look and place my feet correctly, a roll would have been bad. The cushion was nice, the shoe was comfortable, and it didn't feel heavy while it looks big. It just wasn't for me.

Bought these shoes upon recommendation from a friend who is a cross country coach. Injured my Achilles tendon in a 5 road race on July 4th. Had a very busy triathlon season on the schedule to there was no time for rest. Started using these shoes in August and felt a difference in the Achilles pain right away. With these shoes, I was able to recover from a partial Achilles tendon tear with no rest and consistent training and racing in 3 months. My last 2 triathlons in September were pain free. By the way, I am 51 years old and the last time this happened in my 30 ' s it took 7 months to get better. These shoes make a difference.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

Lots to say about these shoes. Thank you to the manufacturers for coming up with a lightweight cushioning system for the sole. However, these shoes need a lot of modifications to make them great. There is NO interior cushioning to the upper. The tongue is basically a flap of rubber. The top of the foot gets no protection from shoe movement. Especially missed is padding all around the shoe opening. Of course, the lack of padding on the upper allows these shoes to be quite breathable. I am a woman whose most former shoe was a men's 9.5 EE Asics Gel Nimbus but, because of the wide cut, I can wear a men's 9.5 D Hoka One One Bondi. The cut is very boxy -- think My Darling Clementine and cardboard boxes without topses, so there is movement of the shoe on your skin. When I tried these on in the store (on the recommendation of my best friend whose is a triathlete), I was hooked on the sole cushioning and bought two pairs. After wearing them for a week and putting in my usual 40 plus miles, I'm taking the second pair back. I will keep the first because of the sole cushioning. I now only wear them with Smartwool socks for protection from the interior of the upper. One other comment: with my mileage, I go through shoes quickly. Part of the attraction of these was another friend's (a century trail runner) statement about their durability. However, my miles are primarily on pavement and some blacktop. I do not believe that the tread (especially the portion across the ball of the foot -- which is distinctly softer) will hold up well to cement, rocks, or even blacktop. If these shoes had better padding on the interior -- controlling the shifting and pressure of the upper on my feet, I'd be a total convert. I'm calling these a recommended shoe, but simultaneously telling you that you'll need protection from them.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

I really wanted this shoe to work out. Out of the box, it was great! It's not a speed shoe, but perfect for easy pace recovery and long runs. However, the upper just falls apart in a short period of time. I gave it two tries, with the same result. Maybe they'll get it worked out over time, but it's time for me to move on! Very disappointed considering the price point.

This is a great trainer. However, they are too heavy for racing. So, I just use them as a heavy-duty trainer. I log ~40+ miles a week in them and they last. The traction tends to wear out quickly, but i have found no durability issues with the cushioning.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

I was very disappointed with these shoes. Had my hopes high, but the first pair was way too big. Sent those back while ordering a small size. When the smaller size arrived, I threw my orthotics in and went for a run. Within 3 miles, I had a slice taken out of the top of my toe. Once home, I ran my hand inside of the upper, and it's like a saw blade where the tongue is sewn in. For the premium price, I thought I was going to get a premium product. Not even close.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

I've been an avid runner since 1984. More marathons than I can count, many ultras, triathlons, etc. My point is I've tried a hundred shoes and seen the fads (can you spell "minimalist")come and go. But the Hokas are completely different.
For the first time in 30 years I came back from a 20 mile training run, exhausted, but was shocked to find my legs were almost FRESH! No soreness. No limited range of motion. No compulsion to stretch them out. After a nap I could have gone dancing. That's never happened before. After you get used to them, running in Hokas is more like pedalling a bike. A nice even cycling motion rather than bang, bang, bang on the ground.
Word of warning: You have to run more than the "out the store and down the sidewalk" trial. Took me at least two runs to get comfortable because they feel sooooo odd to run in. Until you learn to relax you almost run in an careful, guarded way.
Only complaint is the tongue. Had to cut the weird end down so it didn't wear a hole in me (after it wore a hole in me). Come-on HOKA ... buy a pair of Zoots and see how they do it.
Regardless, I'll NEVER go back to "regular" shoes again!

After lots of reading I decided to give the Hoka One One a try and all I can say is WAO!!!! Most comfortable shoe I have tried in quite some time. Been using these for few weeks and feel great. Looking forward for this year NYC 26.2!! Highly recommended

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

I am an avid Bondi fan and nearly didn't buy the Bondi 3s due to all the negative reviews about lack of cushion and so on. To me, the cushion feels the same as the Bondi 2s. The basic design and sizing is nearly identical. The Bondi 3s come with the quick laces (or whatever they call them) which I detest, but they include regular laces too. The tongue is paper thin compared to the old padded design, but I haven't found any issues, pain, rubbing, etc. from them. If you are a Bondi 2 fan, I see no reason not to continue on with the Bondi 3s.

I have been running for over 30 years, and despite all the injuries, still love it. But my last marathon was over 5 years ago and for the last 18 months I haven't run at all due to patellar tendinosis. Couldn't get past 1/2 mile without searing pain. Yesterday, I saw an ad for HOKAs in a running magazine and went to my local RRS store and picked up a pair, having tried everything else to no avail. My first run this morning was 2 miles and miraculously pain free. Pain free. Wow...if the HOKAs come through in the long run, I will be a fan for life. The HOKAs take some getting used to. I have always run in Stability shoes due to some pronation, and the HOKAs are anything but Stability. I don't like walking in them. And, as many have said, the tongue and speed lacing aren't great. But standard laces are provided and I will try them for my 2nd run...fingers and toes crossed that it goes as well as this morning's amazing, epiphany-like experience.

Really good for my feet with inserts. Best I have found for plantar fasciitis.

However, the tread wear is rapid and not durable, at least that is the case with my stride.

With just 43 miles on these so far, it's hard to really know if they will reduce wear and tear on my legs/feet yet. Here's what's clear so far:

                          - As other folks have said, the tongue is terrible. Couple that with the wire thin laces (since changed out) and they can be painful. Once I switched out the laces it is better, but they need a more substantial tongue in future releases.

                          - My feet heat up far more than the Ghost 5/6s I've been running in for years now. Whatever material is being used is nowhere as breathable.

                          - Despite their size, when running they feel very light.

                          - The toe box is very wide. The upper material has to bunch up to get these to the correct tightness.

                          - They feel very good and comfortable to run in. Most of my runs so far have been in the 5-8 mile range.

Started running in Hoka's after a severely broken foot. The cushioning and stability have kept me going. The new model doesn't seem to be cut as low around the ankle collar. I get a terrible rub on the fibula. Had to cut and remove a part of the collar to eliminate the problem. I have the same issue with the Rapa Nui 2 Tarmac.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

I purchased the product for my 30+ mile trail runs. Overall it is an excellent shoe for the protection and "endurance" of my feet. I have been running brooks pure flow and love the light, low and stable aspects of the pure flow. The biggest problem I have had is the ankle instability when running trails. Since the Hoka sits up higher it has a tendency to roll laterally and I have had several minor ankle tweeks which I have never experienced with other shoes. Also the upper is a little sloppy feeling. Replaced the laces with the traditional and it has been a little better. Overall the shoe is a revolutionary product which allows me to run long with much less foot pain, I am sure Hoka will improve on the product in the next couple of years

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

The Hoka redesign flopped. Read somewhere about problems with the lacing system being so narrow that when you tighten the shoes, they can't be tightend all the way. This proved true for me too. Deckers (Hoka) narrowed the toe box and now I have blisters on the outside of my second toe routinely (which is shorter than big toe. OUCH! Most of all what hurts is the ankles. The cushioning is gone causing the shoe to bang into the ankles. This can only be tolerated for about 4 or 5 miles. Overall, the redesign of these is poor.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

As a big runner (6'2, 195lbs) I have been on a mission to find the most cushioned running shoe that is also not too heavy. I have tried Brooks Glycerin, Nike Pegasis, Asics Nimbus 14 & 15, etc... This Hoka Bondi 3 is the best cushioned shoe yet! I can run farther than ever and have no pain during and after. Here is my pros & cons list:

                                      Pros:
                                      1) Cushioning like none other. Wow!
                                      2) Lighter than they look
                                      3) These shoes save my knees and legs

                                      Cons:
                                      1) Yes, they look a little unusual, but not as bad as I thought
                                      2) The tongue could be more comfortable
                                      3) Durability is a concern

These would be the worlds perfect neutral running shoe if they made it 1 oz lighter, used a more comfortable tongue, and increased durability. The amazing cushioning and the fact that my body is no longer in pain after a run makes these shoes a solid 4 Star shoe.

I knew this shoe was going to be soft and cushy but it was too soft causing my toes to squish together and not splay this caused bleeding. I don't like bleeding. That's not all...Before I ran into the bleeding feet issue these shoe were wearing out at a crazy rate. I run 30+ miles per week and they looked like I took a belt sander to the fore foot/midfoot after 60 miles. For the money that should not be. I think I would have need 5-7 pairs to get through a season had these worked out. I really wanted to like this shoe, but it was a major bust.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

I loved the Bondi 2. The 3 comes with race laces that I had to cut to get the shoe on my foot. The optional laces supplied are about 3 inches longer than the Bondi 2's and flop around annoyingly when running. so I need a trip to get properly sized laces. Over the tongue is a tight elastic strip that makes the shoe hard to get on. That will be sissored out later. I have never heard a fellow runner or triathlete opine for a cushioned trainer to come with race laces and tight rubber bands. As to the tongue, it is not cushioned, rather it seems like a too long piece of flexible plastic that borderline rubs the shin. The shoe is also a tad more narrow and not as comfortable. It is not a fun shoe to run in. My guess is Hoka sent in a high powered design team to do an innovative upper and a day in day out runner never took this thing out for a long run or even tried it on. Give the design back to the Bondi 2 team.

Compared to the Bondi 2, these are more stiff. They caused blisters. They rubbed across the top of my feet. They are lose around the heel and slid up and down, even after returning them for a smaller size. I was so happy with the Bondi 2 shoes that I said I would never wear anything else. I am now returning these and possibly going back to Brooks.
