Solid choice in Hoka line for those seeking a firm ride

Solid shoe. I was hesitant to purchase a shoe from Hoka because they looked awkward and overly squishy cushioned. After reading reviews online, the Huaka appeared to be the shoe more suited for my preferences in shoes: firm, light, responsive, and fast. This shoes has greatly exceeding my expectations, it's now my go to shoe, and I should be looking to pick up a second pair in due time. What makes this shoe different from others in the Hoka line is the RMAT midsole, which is firmer than the traditional EVA used in the overly popular Clifton. Without overly praising this shoe, if you're looking for a light weight firm fast trainer w/ increased protection from the pounding of running, this could be your shoe.

    hoka huaka

My only other pair of Hoka's are the Clifton, which I really love. This shoe does not have that walking on pillows feel, but that's OK. I only have about 30 miles on these, mostly on trails, and the feel of more stability is a plus. The lacing system took one run to get used to. Not an issue. My only bugaboo is the fit of the upper. I have a narrow foot and it does not fit like "a glove". That being said, so far no issues with hot spots or slippage. Like em a lot but Clifton's still the go to.

I run 6 days a week, 7 to 10 miles per. I am on my 2nd pair. I would suggest this shoe if your feet run wide as mine do. I tried 2 pairs of the Clifton, which I found to be to narrow. I'm finding that the cushion is superior to the New Balance"1080's" I ran in for years. The lace's take a bit getting use to. I got use them and love them. These shoes would be better though, if there was a little padding under the tongue.

        I'm 58, and run 6 days a week/50 miles+. My knees,hips,
feet, and ankles need the cushion. Hoka One shoes are the best, I've run in for cushion. Hoka Clifton, would be my
        favorite if it was wider.

Shoe is solid overall. Responsive, yet comfortable for double digit long runs. My feet are a little wide and these shoes are still comfortable but snug. I use them for half-marathons and generally around mile 10 is when the snugness begins to give me some running pains. Great shoe overall and one that I will continue to utilize for speed work and half.

I already had the Hoka Clifton and It was so good I wanted another Hoka. I bought the Huaka as it had a lesser drop just to see the difference. Its really hard to tell. They are both great shoes. The huaka might be slightly more comfortable but they are both so good its hard to be sure. The only thing I would change is to make the tongue a little thicker. Hoka make a really good shoe.

Ran a 6 miler out of the box, then got a 20 miler in. These are going to be my marathon race shoes. They're cushioned, but not overwhelmingly so, light weight, and have a wider surface area under the ball of the foot, than some of the newer models that I have tried. This is my favorite Hoka so far, especially with the 2mm drop. A great shoe.

This is the first shoe by Hoka that I could actually use because I don't feel the arch pressing up against my arch. I have flat/wide feet and this shoe does a pretty good job at accommodating me. The low 2mm drop is hardly noticeable. I'm using this for my first 100 miler. Have done about 150 miles on it so far and it's still pretty good. Holds up really well on trails and road alike. Also surprisingly good for speed, I was doing 1:14 around the track in these. The upper also doesn't cut into my foot like the bondis. They have 3 different insoles depending on wideness or narrowness of your feet. So this shoe is great if you have 4E feet like me, or if you have much narrower feet, or even if you have regular width feet. I'd say they are true to size, 10.5 feels good on me.

I have been a loyal Newton runner for 2 years. During my training for Ironman I was looking for something to give my feet and legs a soft ride while maintaining a minimal heel to toe drop. The Huaka was my answer. After talking to several friends who swore by Hokas I broke down and tried some after they finally released a shoe that didn't make me feel like I was running in high heels. I had been having problems with knee pain in my left knee but since I've started training in the Huakas it seems to have disappeared. I've ran about 60 miles this last week in these shoes and I'm a convert!

This is a great shoe. I have had 2 pairs of the Stinson trails and love them. I got the Huaca as a road shoe and they are outstanding: light, nice fit, and great transition from mid to forefoot with the low drop. Fine on easy trails as well. I ran a quick 8 miler in them out of the box, and had them out for a 22 miler today--one of the best shoes I have owned. (Now if Hoka could give us a Huaca trail . . .) So far, no negatives.
