I thought I would try a soft shoe for once and the first few yards you notice how you sink in as you run and it seems quite comfortable, but the more you go the more energy you lose from your stride. They make it quite hard to stay up on my toes and the additional depth means I'm dragging the bottom of the shoe sometimes especially as I get tired. Maybe i'll get used to it all but I'm happier right now with my paper thin worn out Merrill trail shoes. Make sure you watch the width, these are very narrow even half size up.

I've been runner now for over 15 yrs. Nothing long just your 5 and 10k due to several knee, ankle, foot and back injuries. Recently my doctor basically told me to stop running which I wasn't happy about. My other option was reduce my pace (check) and change my shoes (check). She recommended Hoka One One due to the rocker profile and the cushioning. I have to say, she was right. These are great shoes, I used to have issues after 2 miles but with these shoes, the pain is minimal and at times completely gone. I already ordered a second pair and thinking about a 3rd (trail version).

Trying out this shoe for 10+ miles fast paced runs on the roads. It is extremely light weight, awesome HOKA cushioning, feels great. Took 8 min off my 10 mile time trial route first time I tried it. I had plantar fasciitis for 3+ yrs until I switched to HOKAs. Nothing but good to say about them. They saved my running.

Hard to comment on the most fantastic pair of shoes that I have ever owned. And this is coming from someone that goes through 10-12 pair a year at least. They provide an incredible amount of cushion while still creating a solid, stable feel on my foot.

        Wanted 'em to work out

Life long Asics Nimbus wearer who waited to see if the reviews were consistent and not gimmicky. 6'2" 210lbs, neutral runner, 20-25 miles a week. Wore for two weeks but an old injury returned...plantar fasciitis. I was disappointed because I wanted to keep the shoes but I think the fit aggravated my old injury. For me and my running style (heel striker), it felt like the heel was too low or the mid-sole was too pronounced as it put a lot of stress on my Achilles and arch. Two weeks after the return and miles back in my Nimbus, I have less pain. I decided to return for the Asics Nimbus 17. We'll see. In the end, though, I can see where the hype comes from. It is a very unique shoe that the right folks will really like. Incredible cushioning. Good luck.

        My new favourite brand

        By AsianRunnerNJ

        from Millburn, NJ

I've worn everything from Adidas to Nike to Newe Balance to Mizuno to Brooks during my running career. During those years, I've raced from 2 miles to 26.2 and weighed between 195-280. During my heavier years, the Hoka One One Clifton has been THE HANDS DOWN BEST cushioned shoe I've ever worn. The width is a touch narrow but it eventually broke in and the tongue feels a touch flimsy but other that these shoes are great!

These shoes are very comfortable and light! I run 25-30 miles per week training for races. These shoes feel very fast and have eliminated occasional knee pain. I would highly recommend this shoe for training or racing. I only have about 75 miles on them, so time will tell on durability, but so far so good!

I am 6'2, 200 lbs. I need a max cushioning shoe to protect my legs. I have used Asics Nimbus, Hoka Bondi 3, and the Hoka Cliftons. The Bondi and Cliftons have a LOT more cushioning than the Nimbus. I just wish the Cliftons were more durable and had a more comfortable tongue. Advice to Hoka, even if it makes the shoe 1 oz heavier, improve the tongue & durability.

Like I am sure a lot of us around, been trying for years to find the holly grail of running shoes that would fit me best.
Just to put things in perspective: am male, 42, 6ft4, 185lbs, running 20-25miles/week, racing on everything from 5miles to half marathons (01:50), mainly roads, little trails.
Am always curious to try out new things, and have fairly sensitive joints and back, not getting any better with age, so always been looking for lightweight but good cushioning.
Below a quick summary of my quest to the perfect shoe for the past 2 years, starting from worse to best:
            - Nike Zoom Elite, Aasics Nimbus, Saucony Triumph: good cushioning, but heavy and the "slippers" feeling I do not like. Aasics and Saucony on the expensive side as well (cheap side for the Nike). Would give them 2 stars
            - Nike Free 5.0: best look around, extremely snug fit, super lightweight, ideal to run on trade mills, but too little cushioning for me to consider running on the road. Would give them 3 stars. Bought 2 pairs of those (as I said, great for training on trade mills). Very cheap after the discounts.
            - ON Clouds Surfers: interesting technology, great cushioning, a bit on the heavy side. Quite responsive (as opposed to first category above). Very durable as well. Would give them 4 stars. Bought 2 pairs of those. Would probably go for the Cloud Surfers model if I wanted something a bit lighter. a bit on the expensive side
            - Adidas Ultra Boost: one of my current running shoes. Was promised something revolutionary, ...but not really. Great cushioning, very snug fit and responsive, but on the heavy side. 4 stars. Super expensive.
            - Nike Lunar Flyknit: was my best running shoes before I discovered the Hooka Clifon. Still have a pair of those: super light, super snug (almost too much, top of one of my toes rubbing against the fabrics ending up in pain), responsive and great cushioning. Was a 5 stars to me until I discovered the below. Had 3 pairs of those. Very cheap after the discounts. Lasting average at best (the cushioning effect goes away too quick to my linking).
            - Clifton Hooka: bar none the best shoes I have ever run in: reasonably snug, super light, and a cushioning out of this World: the "walk on clouds" feeling. Cheap as well. I am on my 3rd pair of those.
            Hope that helps. Happy miles.

The shoes are awesome. Some people have posted that there is not a lot of room in the shoe, I say that's Ludacris. I run about 50-60 miles a week and to me the Hoka one one cliftons are perfect. The shoes look heavy, but looks are deceiving. I have convinced five other Soldiers into buying the same shoes and they love them as much as I do. I have written HOKA and asked if they can make a combat boot because of the comfort of the shoe. I highly recommend this shoe to any runner or non-runner alike.

I'm on 3rd/4th pair of Cliftons. Have about 300 miles on each. Love the shoes except he rubber near and under the heel gets loose and peels off.....or I have to cut it off. So I have almost no rubber in the back of the shoe...just the white/foamy stuff under the black hard rubber that has peeled off. The hard rubber in the front has stayed put luckily. I continue to run on them as the cushioning is great.

I've only run in the shoes a few times but already like them a lot. The cushioning is great and the shoe is surprising light. I expected the shoes to feel slow because of the cushioning and size but it's quite the opposite as they feel just as fast as my 10k racing shoes. I have narrower feet so the upper feels a little too roomy at first but it's not so noticeable during a run. Overall, pleasantly surprised with how much I like these shoes.

I've trained on many, many different shoes over the years, but the HOKA Clifton is truly remarkable. I might even call it a breakthrough. It's startlingly lightweight, extremely protective and stable, and its rocker sole has helped me to increase my turnover pace.
I plan to use this as a racing flat in my next marathon.
I literally have not put on a shoe from another brand after running in these. Highly recommended.

I've got a total of 200 miles on two pairs of these. These fit my slightly narrow 11.5 feet like a glove. The cushioning is perfect. I previously was wearing Ghost 6s for short runs and Bondi 3s for longer runs. Everything that didn't work for my feet in the Bondi 3s (fit, breathability) works perfectly in the Cliftons.

I can't say enough about the Hoka Cliftons. They are light, comfortable and most of all easy to run on. They eliminate almost all "impact pain" with their cushioning. They have all but eliminated a knee pain I have battled for a year. I ran a PR half marathon two weeks ago in these shoes. The best part is after the race most of the pain I use to feel is very limited and recovery time is definitely shortened.

Was fighting heel spurs. The cush in this shoe is amazing. I don't notice my sore heel anymore while running. The light outer wear is great for hot weather as well. Lots of air for my feet to breath.

Quick update: Fantastic show. Been running in them since mid November. Over 500 miles and the shoe still feels "new". I am impressed. Having run over 81,000 miles since 1976, I can't recall a shoe I have run in that works this well for me. Light weight and super cushioning. Minimal, if any, degradation in the support/ cushioning of the shoe. Amazing! I hope Hoka reps don't read this, they may want to change the formula so the she wears out quicker. Definitely 5+Stars, Who says you can't run 40-50 miles a week in your 70's?
