BEST SHOE I'VE EVER RUN IN

Love this shoe. Extreme cushioning, lightweight and fast. feels as though they push me forward as I run. I've gained 1 minute or better per mile since running in them. Only drawback that I can foresee is the rubber sole seams to be wearing out at the heel. I've been running in them for about a little over six weeks and 160 miles. Would like to get at least 4/6 months or 400/600 miles out of them but not sure that I can. I still though will probably stay with this brand.

I never heard of Hokas until a friend stated he had run 18 miles in his and felt really good the next day. The comment caught my attention, so I decided to buy these shoes. I wore them for a brief 3 mile track workout and they felt really nice. I then took them to Chicago to run the marathon and I must say, they kept me going. Very comfortable shoe, lightweight, cushioned perfectly for my liking. I have run 8 marathons to date and will never run another one without my Hokas.

Older and Heavier Male, by running standards. Not a serious runner until about 5 years ago. Took some trial and error to find my shoe "type" and a brand that I could tolerate. Wore out more than a few pair of Asics and I am ECSTATIC over this shoe! Could have taken off and ran until I couldn't run any more straight out of the box. SO LIGHT and a great cushion gave me a level of comfort I have never experienced before. If they last 200 miles, I'm a customer for life! That is, as long as they don't ruin them in revision.

I purchased these at the same time I purchased a pair of Hoka One One Huakas, and fortunately tried the Clifton first. Wonderful shoe, felt great as soon as I put it on and that didn't stop throughout my regular 5.29 mile run. I was really impressed with the cushioning and the fact that it never got in the way as well as the lightness. Just a super shoe that I knew I'd be wearing frequently. I'll probably put them in rotation with my Newtons, Distance, Gravity, and Isaacs but I know which will be the most comfortable! First Hokas, but they won't be my last.
I run on hard surfaces primarily and am 68 years old; normally 100-125 miles per month, and I wanted something with a little more cushion to see if it would help with some knee pain; not bad, but noticeable nonetheless, and I'm sure the Clifton will do that for me without any loss of form. They're easy to run in and I haven't had to accommodate them in any way.
I wrote another review on the Huaka, which was very unfavorable. I was very disappointed especially after my initial impression of the Cliftons. I returned the Huaka after wearing just once. Very different shoes, at least to me.

This shoe was recommended by my Ultra running friend. I'm a 54 year old male weighing 80Kg with the standard aches and pains, knees, hips, feet, plus lower leg neuropathy. Currently stationed in Kuwait, I did about 3 miles in the shoes before running the Army 10-Miler Shadow run last Sunday. Truly unbelieveable comfort resulting in pain free speed. I would not have believed anyone could build a shoe that comfortable! If it lasts 200 miles, I will be a lifelong customer...so long Asics!

Incredible for a shoe to have this much cushion and still retain very good responsiveness. Great for everything from tempo workouts to racing a marathon. First time Hoka buyer and I am quite impressed, still felt like a regular shoe despite the looks. Only issue was a somewhat loose fit in forefoot, swapped insoles and problem fixed. Got two pairs to rotate and will be racing my next marathon in this shoe.

                • Fast Training Runs

I've had my Cliftons for two weeks and have enough miles to put down some initial impressions.

For background, I am 5'10" and 150 pounds - I have been running for over 30 years. I run mostly trails, and train at a 5:30-6:00 pace. I prefer short to middle distance running (3-5 miles) at a faster pace. I have been running in trail shoes for about 20 years - I like the stability, traction, and cushioning, and prefer to run off road for my shins and joints.

Back in December of 13 I tried a pair of Hoka Stinson Trails. They were AMAZING. Hands down the best shoes I have ever run in. So, of course, they discontinued the model. I tried the Hoka Stinson ATRs and they were not up to par. I also tried the Mafate Speed trail shoes and HATED them. I even tried the Altra Olympus and hated them as well. At that point I sadly gave up on Hokas and returned to my old stand by Salomons. About 3 weeks ago a fellow runner showed me her Cliftons and I was blown away by how light they were. I hadn't heard of the Cliftons and was intrigued so I did some reading and was impressed with all the reviews and the Runner's World shoe of the year designation. Given their pretty reasonable price I thought I'd give them a try.

After about 20 miles in them I really love these shoes. So far they are living up to all the hype - feather light, wonderful cushioning, good responsive sole and amazing stability for a shoe this light. I do run with them on light gravel and grass and have had no issues. The soles will just not handle an aggressive trail - the tread isn't there unfortunately. I have read that Hoka plans to make a Clifton trail shoe - if so, I'm in!

The shoes fit like Hokas, a bit snug, but I think a shoe like this has to be snug. They aren't tight, they form around your feet. I have had no issues with soreness, fatigue, or tingling in these shoes.

My overall impression is that these could be on par with my beloved Stinson Trails - I love these shoes. As fast trainers they have no equal. I only gave them 4 stars because I haven't had them long enough to see how they wear. So far they are perfect, but 20 miles isn't enough to get any real sense of how far they will go.

I will finish by saying that I look forward to every run in these shoes - sort of look for an excuse to put them on. They are extremely comfortable and they perform - I am training down towards 5:00 to 5:30 in these which at my age is blistering, a large part of it has to do with these shoes. I like to run fast, and so do these shoes, so we are a perfect match!

I'm currently training for an Ironman and have gotten up to a 22 mile run with these shoes and no ill effects! They are comfortable, roomy and provide a lot of cushioning...especially on hard surface roads. I also run on a golf course to give my knees some relief and that is when I find the cushioning a little excessive. I've experimented with several other brands and found my Hokas to be the best choice for me.

Love the cushion and smooth ride. Durability seems better than the Bondi 3 as the tread isn't wearing down as fast. The Clifton breathes better, is lighter and more stylish too. Compared to the Bondi 3, the Clifton is much more flexible, has less material on the upper and it fit my foot better. I did notice a significant difference in the arch support and stability of the heel. This isn't a good thing for me as I need a stability shoe to help with my PF. This shoe actually made it flare up again with only 20 miles into them over several days. I will be reluctantly returning them since I need more arch support. I have enjoyed the other improvements from the Bondi 3 and wish the shoe worked for me. I was able to wear them with jeans and felt comfortable knowing they didn't look like clown shoes. I would never wear the Bondi unless I was running.

I've been running in Saucony Kinvara's for several years and have loved them. I got a pair of Saucony Guide 7's in the spring, and really liked the additional cushioning they had over the Kinvara's. But I liked the more minimal upper and the lower drop of the Kinvara. The Hoka One One Clifton is the best of both worlds! It has more cushioning than my Guide's, but the upper is more minimal like the Kinvara. The drop is also more similar to the drop of the Kinvara's. They feel just as light as the Kinvara. I'm currently training for a fall marathon, and did an 18 miler in the Hoka's today, and they were great. My legs don't feel as fatigued after the run as they have in the past, I assume it's the additional cushioning lessening the impact and force on the muscles. They feel just as stable as any other shoe I have worn (I had been nervous about this due to the height off the ground). The forefoot is nice and roomy, but not excessively so. I have only done two runs in them so far, but I'm very pleased and look forward to many more runs in them. I'll probably run the marathon in them, too!

Hey: they're not the best looking shoes, but WHO CARES? They are lightweight and provide supreme cushioning. Like many runners who reviewed these, I've worn basically every brand out there, with my most recent loyalty belonging to Brooks for the past four years. Took these babies for a little 8.5 mile spin and effortlessly set a new PR. Cheesy but true.

Don't just take my word for it, read the reviews on this and any other site. The Cliftons rock out!

I have only done two runs in them so far, but I'm very pleased and look forward to many more runs in them. I'll probably run the marathon in them, too!

Amazing shoe but I had to return my normal size 8.5 and get a 9.0 which fit me correctly. For the size 9's first run out of the box, I put in 14 hard miles this morning and they felt great, as did my 54-year-old knees!

I'm at the peak of my marathon training and needed some new shoes. I had been hearing about the Cliftons in Runner's World and from friends and decided to give it a shot. Amazing. These shoes may look clunky, but they are anything but that. They are super light, and provide maximum cushioning. I've noticed a decrease in soreness after my long runs as well. I've logged over 50 miles on them already, and I love them more every day. I plan on running the marathon in them as well. I already went and bought another pair.

Fantastic for runners with bad knees. Incredible cushion but feel confident and sturdy. Have run Brooks for 15 years+ Love them but this shoe is twice as confortable for a 50 year old with knees that are starting to feel the road after thousands of miles of running. I can't say enough about how good my knees, legs and feet feel after a run in the Hoka One One Clifton's Just Do it!

I had always experienced some mild back, knee or hip discomfort when running but not enough to stop. I tried the minimalist approach, worked up to it slowly and it seemed to help at first but the discomfort returned so I gave these a try going in the opposite direction. Problem solved. The most comfortable , pain free runs I have ever had and I have been running for 40 years( I'm 72). They are a little stiff but that is the price for superior cushioning.

This is a really good shoe,it provides wonderful cushioning and its fit is perfect. It is incredibly light for the size of its soles. I am neither heavy but as an aging runner feeling the toles of decades of running, I appreciate the cushioning this shoe offers. The lace-box and tonuge are about the best design I have ever had on any shoe. I had a pair of the Hoka trail shoes and it was my observation that the tread wore very poorly and tended to be slippery on some wet surfaces. I think the same may be true for these shoes.

Excellent shoe so far. I have been an Asics Gel Kayano user since around the 8, and continue to use them as my alternate shoe. Tried the Bondi 3 in January (recovering from a pelvic stress fracture) for the cushioning, and like them a lot, but I find the Clifton superior. I am 6' 1", 185 lbs, and not a speedster by any stretch. Cliftons felt great right out of the box, just like my Asics usually do. I wonder how durable they will be due to the light weight, but am very pleased with them so far and would certainly buy them again.

I have worn the Stinson Tarmac, Stinson EVO, and the Conquest. The Clifton is as cush as the others with the benefit of light weight 8oz. Very breathable with the light weight mesh. May not be great for the Winter in the rain. But awesome on a hot day. I am 8 months post Achillies surgery and have tried a few different kinds of shoes during the recovery process. Just recently upped my mileage to 6-8-10 miles. I wore the Clifton's for a 2 miler to break them in. 2nd run was 10.0. No issues what so ever. I am a big guy at 6'2" 215lbs. so time will tell on how they break down. Was not an issues with the Stinson's and probably not the Conquest (Have not had the Conquest long enough to know. I am normally a Nike Vomero guy and have found the Clifton to have more stability than the Vomero. I am going to go a head and order a second pair of Cliftons. Not that $129.00 is cheap by any means, but it is in the relm of the Vomero's and a lot less than the Conquest's at $165.00. Since running in the Clifton's I doubt I will use the Conquest's to run in any more ( Maybe in the rain or wet conditions)and keep them for leisure. If you are on your feet all day... Not a bad idea to wear Hoka's. I could tell once I got out of my Achillies boot and started walking around. I felt much better at the end of the day when I wore my Hoka's then any other shoe!
