        I am a heavy trail runner/ hiker/ trekker and I was able to score a pair Wave Ascends from our Mizuno Rep to demo and review. I have been looking for a new trail shoe for about 2 months now after wearing through my Hoka's, which I love for long distances. I tried on the Ascends and was pretty impressed with the feel of the shoe. It's not a clunker by any means, but still is very well balanced and gives a nice stable base.

        I just recently took the Ascends out for a 10 mile hike @ 8am and about 37 degrees out. The trails where frozen over and the mountain bike tread ruts wear just as bat as the tree roots, but truth be told, the Ascends felt great! Very well balanced shoe! Not too heavy, either!. Traction wasn't bad on the icy sections, a little slick, but its ICE! When the ice started to thaw later in the morning and turn to mud, the Ascends proved they could hold their own on climbs and descends.

        The only knock I have on the shoe is a little bit more aggressive heel brake, but they still brake fine down hill and the grip was fantastic! The tread looks and feels like it's going to last long and put up to the abuse I'll give it!

        Bottom line: If you wear a stability shoe and are looking for a balanced trail shoe, I totally recommend the ascends.

        The Ascend 7 is a quick, lightweight trail shoe ideal for dirt/gravel trails in both wet and dry conditions. It holds up well to hard-packed snow. If you're running mixed terrain be aware that these get a little slick on plain-old wet pavement such as while running down hill.

        With about 75-80 miles of trail, mine are holding up well without losing the integrity/protection of the sole.

        These do run a little big - I will go down 1/2 a size from my usual on my next pair.
