3rd pair wave riders, opinion unchanged

My 3rd pair of Mizuno wave rider (after 12 and 14). Fit feels similar, so these are a good follow-up. The only shoe on the market narrow enough for a snug fit on my feet (2A narrow size). Would have preferred one of the other color schemes, but they don't come in narrow size. Although wave rider is said to be Mizuno's more cushioned shoe, the cushioning especially in the forefoot is less than other brand shoes I've owned (Nike air Pegasus (past) and Lunarglide (current)) and wore out relatively quickly. The heel is quite cushioned, making it quite a large drop. This isn't such a problem at high pace when it doesn't really get in the way of my predominantly forefoot landing, but I find it gets in the way and is bothersome at very low pace. So at higher pace and on the track I love their light weight and high responsiveness, with nice following of foot motion. I generally run 3 times a week with different goals per run, training mostly for half marathons. For long, very slow pace runs (18+ km) I prefer my Nike Lunarglides. These are more comfortable then, although heavier and clunkier. They have squishy cushioning all along the sole, with very little drop. It's sort of like the comparison between a sporty compact car (versatile, light) and a minivan (roomy but clunky). Each have their purpose, it just depends on what's more important in a given situation.

Not for me

This was the first time I wore Mizuno brand sneakers and made my choice based on the previous reviews. I usually wear Asics which I do not have a problem with. The shoe fit true to size but more narrow that I am used to so I tried the Wide Width which felt better. I usually wear a regular width shoe but the Wide Width felt more comfortable. I also have friends who swear by this shoe and I do believe it works for other people, it is just not the shoe for me. They look very well made also. I have had pain in the past with plantar fasciitis and shin splints and after my first run with these sneakers I felt great; however, the next day I had so much pain from shin splints. I have not been in pain like that for about a year and was surprised how much pain i was in. I don't know if my feet were striking the ground differently or what but that was the only change to my usual running routine so I am guessing the cause of my pain was the shoes. Thanks to Road Runner for your great customer service. As I said earlier I am sure these shoes are great for some people, they are just not for me. I would recommend them to a friend to try because I know from close friends they do work for them.

Best Wave Rider yet!

I've been wearing the Wave Rider 16's for one month and I absolutely love them. I've worn Wave Riders for 7 years and I believe this is one of the best models. You should order a 1/2 size up from your normal shoe size- I wear a size 8 in regular shoes and have always been a 8 1/2 in the WR's. This model seems to have a large toe box, extra ventilation, and a little more cushioning. Not to mention they are SO lightweight! I wore these shoes in a recent marathon and they felt awesome. I didn't hav e a single blister at the end of the race which is unusual for that long of a run for me. I got the blue/pink color and LOVE it! They are bright and flashy but not too obnoxious. I've worn the shoe with jeans a couple of times and they are also look nice as a casual shoe. I haven't worn the shoes in the rain yet so I don't know how they'll hold up as far as water resistance. The shoes have a lot of ventilation and it appears that water might be able to get through the webbing. Great job Mizuno, I will be wearing the WR's all year!

Love this shoe!

I have a Morton's Neuroma as well as some hamstring issues in my Rt thigh due to a pinched nerve in my lumbar area. I primarily run in Newton Gravities but wanted to find another type of shoe to rotate with the Newtons. I have tried various models of Nike, Brooks, NB and Saucony with no luck. Thankfully RR sports is easy to return shoes to and try another pair! The Mizuno Wave Rider 16 feels the closest to a Newton running as any shoe I have tried. They are very springy and I can run as fast in these as I do with my Newtons. They also are the only shoes other than Newtons that has not caused my Neuroma to flare up and does not irritate my hamstring or sciatica. I am assuming this is because of the great cushioning. My journey to find running shoes that does not cause my problems to flare up or to become worse is now over! It will be Mizunos and Newtons for me all the way!

Favorite Shoe

This is my second pair of Wave Rider 16's. For several years I ran in Asics. Last year, a running store recommend that I try Brooks Defyance or the Wave Rider in place of the Asics that I had been running in for years. On that day I went with the Brooks, but felt certain I would purchase the Mizuno Wave Rider for my next purchase. Well, in November I purchased my first pair of Wave Rider 16's and fell in love with them. When I saw they came in the new lavender color I immediately ordered a second pair. I have even purchased two pairs for my husband. They are so lightweight. I did not feel like I had to break them. They felt great the first run. This is definitely my pick for a perfect neutral running shoe. Mizuno has won me over!

Would have loved to love these shoes!

I've been running 30+ years. I no longer run marathons and my times have climbed, but I am consistent! Changed to Mizunos a year ago and have been pleased. Thought I'd try this modeI. The Wave Rider seems sized much larger (1/2 size or more) than my other Mizunos. (I wear a size larger running shoes than standard shoes.) The toe box was way too wide and the length was also more than my other models. (I have large feet.) They also seem to be cut higher, which hits and rubs my ankle bone. Laced them well and tried them out for an easy 4-mile run. They are obviously not for me and am returning them. Love this brand, though, and will stick with the models that work well for me.

Satisfactory update

Went on a 7 mile run (concrete trail) right out of the box (I was excited about getting my new shoes) and had no problems! The biggest difference (15 vs 16) that I immediately noticed after putting them on is the heel cuff seems to be looser than my 15's and does move a bit but not so much that I have gotten raw spots. I am small-framed and have practically no arch but these shoes give me the base support I need. They do feel a bit lighter than the 15's. Again, the roomy toe box has luckily gone untouched - my toes and toenails thank Mizuno for this! I wear a 7-7 1/2 in everyday shoes but order an 8 in my Mizunos. Overall, I will stay with the 16's and with Mizuno. These are my 5th pair over 3 editions.

Love my Wave Riders!!!

I have been wearing the WRs since model 13, I have loved them all. The 15's were my least favorite because they rubbed the back of my heel out of the box, but fortunately after a few runs that went away. I just completed a marathon in my 16's, which covered pavement and trails, and these shoes did not cause me any issues at all. I will note that I do add my own insert, but I have done for other brands as well, so I don't consider that to be a con. The only reason I don't give the shoes 5 stars, is because they wear out a little more quickly than I would like. However, I think my 16's have lasted more miles than previous versions.

Very little cushion, uncomfortable!

Never bought a more uncomfortable shoe with very little cushion! Especially for a running shoe! I'm not a long distance or hard core runner, I'm more of a beginner runner, running approximately 10 miles per week. I like doing other things like yoga, kickboxing, cross-fit and other conditioning type classes in addition to a few miles a couple days per week. This shoe isn't cushioned enough or comfortable enough for that. I was extremely disappointed! Previously I've ran in Asics, Nike, Brooks and will probably return to Brooks. I had heard and read so many good things about this shoe, but just don't see it. These were returned, there's much better out there.

So far, so good

This is my first pair of Mizunos. I read many reviews on lots of different shoes. (I don't live anywhere near a running shoe store, so this was a review-dependant purchase.) I have normal to narrow width feet, but have a Morton's Neuroma in one foot, so a wide toe box is a must, but not a wide shoe. As reviewers said, this shoe does have a wide enough toe box without my heel slipping. Love that. I've only ran a few miles in the shoes so far, and the only thing I have noticed is that the shoe kind of forces my toes upward. Hopefully a little more wear will break them in. They also feel true to a neutral shoe. Love the blue and pink color!

Wave Rider 16 Not Up to Par

Although comfort and quality are in all Mizuno running shoes, I returned these because I quickly realized that they are exactly the same bottom design as the Wave Rider 15. The only difference is the top design and price. Also, it is a little lighter than 15, although not significantly noticeable. Mizuno makes excellent running shoes, but I recommend using extra inserts because the heel support is not enough for me. I ran my first half-marathon in Chicago with my Mizuno Wave Rider 15. I did not experience any shin splints or heel pain and made it to the finish line in style. Thanks Mizuno!

Feel like Cinderella!

My whole body, especially my feet, changed so much after having my first baby. She's a year old now and after trying endless shoes to suit my new needs, I've finally found the perfect pair! I have a high arch but over pronate, and I'm a heel striker. But I hate stability and motion control shoes! I decided to go for a neutral and these really feel like heaven. Lightweight but still lots of cushion, especially in the heel. With my inserts, I feel enough arch support. And the shoe feels like it propels me with every step! I feel like my runs are faster and easier and I look forward to finally increasing my mileage!

I am a runner with some problems... runner's knee and most recently plantar fasciitis. I used to wear newtons gravity for abt 2 years, great for my knees, yrained me to run with good form. Now with PF, newtons are not the right shoes for me. RRS recommended Mizuno waverider 16, I have high arches, and narrow feet. They fit perfectly, feels great. I also got the custom fit insoles from the store, and now running feels heavenly. No foot pain. No uncomfortable toes. My PF is controlled. I love these shoes!

Great shopping experience, great shoe!

I'm a long-time running who "retired" a few years ago and have decided to re-start by training using Couch to 5K. I started week 1 day 1 with my new Mizunos and it was love from first step. They have just the right amount of cushion, some motion control without me feeling restricted, and they are nice and light. I have a fairly narrow foot and the AA is just right for me. I have also torn out the stock inserts and replaced them with Superfeet Berry. This was my first experience with Mizuno, and so far I am 100% satisfied. The fun bright pink color is just a bonus!

A let down

This is my 3rd pair of Wave Riders and my 1st bad experience. Soon after I broke them in I started to have heel pain that I have never had before, my IT issues came back and only after 3 months of wear my lower back, knees and hips are bothering me after long runs. Which has always been my signal to get new shoes. My last Wave Rider 15's lasted 9 months and were great!! No issues at all. So I'm very disappointed! My postural restoration PT suggested the Wave Riders about 2 years ago so I had to tell her about my last experience with the 16's.

I've purchased 10 pairs of this sneaker.

I am a marathon runner and average 30-45 miles of running a week. I have never had a blister or hot spot on my feet since wearing these shoes. I'm very sad to see that Mizuno thought they could improve it with a '17'. NOT SO, the so called 'improved' version is no where improved, it's worse...horrible! Wish they would leave a great product alone. I will NOT be buying the '17' and will be in search for another super shoe, maybe another Mizuno, maybe not.

Don't have a nickname.

Good, but not great

Tried this shoe as the other brand/model I was running in changed and the new version got poor reviews. They were a little stiff out of the box, but once on the road, I easily adjusted. I have a narrow heel, high arch and wider forefoot. These shoes give me hotspots on longer runs (over 50 min.) around my 1st metatarsal area, but otherwise hug my heel and are fine through the arch. I like the colors, like the style and get plenty of compliments on the look, just wish my feet didn't hurt after an hour of running in them.

I use these tennis shoes for everything: running (usually on my treadmill), shopping, even staying at home, as I cannot be barefooted anymore... They were the solution to my problems: 1) wide feet (the wide width is just perfect) ; 2) high arch. I am overweight now and due to a plantar fasciitis, I was giving up running. I could not bear the pain. If you suffer with plantar fasciitis, you will find out that golf balls to roll on your feet everyday and these tennis shoes are the cure!

Fun Colors & Comfy Ride! (a lil wide)

LOVE the color...I got the robin's egg blue color with the hot pink and black. I actually saw these on a woman in the pediatric dentist's office and had to have! Upon immediate try-on, they felt wider and bulkier than most (I'm used to Asics GT-2160 and 2000s), but I put an extra insert on top of the ones already in there and Voila! Perfect! Now I think of reasons NOT to wear my Asics! Not quite as much cushioning and snug fit as GTs, but great fit!

Birmingham, AL

neutral clouds strapped to my feet

After a considerable amount of time in stabilizing shoes AND orthotics, I got shoe-dog'd. I previously felt a lot of stress in the sides of my ankles from overcorrection, and it was pointed out that I would benefit from a neutral shoe with the orthotic. Why this hadn't dawned on me up to this point, I am not sure. Nonetheless, I am newly in love with my Mizuno Wave Riders. They're BEAUTIFUL (aruba blue and pink, I think?) and extremely comfortable. Bonus, the wide toe-box is comparable to my much-loved Brooks .

Horrible and uncomfortable!

It is so soft that it causes my feet to ache days after use of them, ive had them no longer than a month and there breaking in a little to soon for comfort! When my foot lands the ground there is no support, just a gushy landing dew to the overly malleable sole. Im known for being a very light runner so that uncomfortable gush of a landing is not fault on my behalf! I cant stand them and I will never reccomend these to any one for athletics.

Love RoadRunner

I am currently training for my first 1/2 marathon. I bought the Mizuno wave rider after recovering from runners knee in a worn out pair of running shoes. I run on pavement, and I have been very pleased with this shoe. No more runners' knee. On a side note, I will definitely buy from roadrunner again! Fed Ex somehow lost the original shipment containing my shoes. Roadrunner sent me a new pair, expedite shipping! They handled all the paper work and claim filing with FedEx! I'm a very satisfied customer!

Minden, LA

I loved the cushioning in this shoe--felt like pillows on my feet--however--for the last 2 years I have worn the Mizuno Prophecy , and these just didn't work as well for me. for one thing they were a bit small and by the end of my 7 mile run--ouch! had myself a black toe. The toe box was nice and wide though--I just should have got a 1/2 size bigger. My fascitis started acting up and I'm not sure if it is because of the poor fit or if they just didn't have enough support--so I went back to the Prophecy.(I was trying to save $)--but for me--the Prophecy are the best.

Belfast, New York

I just started training for a half marathon and I was looking for a shoe that provided good support and cushion but that wasn't heavy or clunky. I am not an experienced runner so I had to try a few different shoes before I found the right pair. These shoes provide great cushion, support but still give great feedback from the road. I have only had these for a little over a month so I cannot review durability but so far they are great!

San Jose

happy with this shoe overall

Training for my third half marathon. I bought Mizuno wave creation and loved them, but wanted a less expensive second running shoe. Really liked the colors offered and this felt good when I put it on. Cushions great, for a mid foot striker at least. Have some first mtp pain that this aggravates a little, I think because the forefoot is rather stiff. It also took some time to adjust to a slightly higher ankle on this shoe.

Elgin, IL

One of my favorites

Run about 3-4 times a week and loves these shoes. Mizuno Wave Riders are my go to running shoes. Run half and a full marathons in this shoe. Love that I can buy these in women size 12. The toe box is not too big and great colors. Many times people try to put me in men shoes and I hate it. They never fit right (too wide) and the colors are not great. These fit good, are light and are by far my favorite running shoe.

A Little Smaller than Older Versions!

These shoes were such a disappointment. I've been running in Mizuno Wave Riders for five years. Started with the narrow shoe, then got orthotics and the medium width was perfect. Wave Rider 16 in the medium is too tight with the orthotics and they seem to be 1/2 size too short. I've worn them for training and two half marathon and have monster blisters on my insteps...need to find another shoe. :(

Love Them

So glad that Wave Rider went back to type of fit found in the first 9 versions. I have a narrow heel with wide forefoot and high arches. I size up an additional half size to use custom arch support. Love the roomy toebox and look forward to long runs without dead toenails. These shoes are nice and light but still stable enough to step off the road and not roll over. I run about 15 miles/week.

Brooks abandoner

I recently traded in my Brooks for these when Brooks decided to narrow the toe and toe box and I was only getting maybe 300 miles out of them. Although I did have to buy these in a wide, which only came in the pink/green combo, the toe box is great and they feel like heaven running in them. Ive abandoned my Brooks, hopefully I get more than 300 miles out of these!

Love this shoes!!!

My shins are always a problem so I was so happy with the cushion on there shoes!!! I love running outside but with the wrong shoes its very painful. These shoes make it easier. On the treadmill this shoes are even better!!! And I get tons of compliments on the color and style!! Loved them so much I have 2 pair in two different colors!! Totally recommend.
