This is a great shoe, just make sure you break them in! The first time I wore them they pinched my pinkie toes just a bit. I wore them all day and walked about five miles. By the end of the day they were perfect.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I ran in this model for years, then Mizuno changed the toe box and it was too narrow. I switched to Nike, which was amazing, since they had always been too narrow....then, Mizuno changed the toe box back to being wider and I was stoked! The 16 I bought in a wide width, and they were perfect right from the box. I can usually go either medium or wide, but this 17 is too narrow, I think and I am debating whether or not I should return them for the wide width.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

The newest iteration of the Mizuno Wave Rider (17) is a great departure from my beloved shoe. The shoe itself seems elongated with extremely awkward lacing placement that cuts across my toes as I step off. A narrower toe box resulted in hot spots and blisters. I've been wearing Wave Riders for over 10 years and looked forward to each new pair. Wave Riders were a slim and lightweight shoe with a hard ride and swift feel. I run marathons, half-marathons, and casual miles. I'm very disappointed in this update and I'm currently looking for other options.

I have had Mizunos for years and every time I've tried different brands I come back. I run about 25-30 miles a week and these shoes are so comfortable. I find that when I put them on before I run they aren't my favorite, but when I'm running I don't even notice them which is how I like my shoes. I haven't had any rubbing issues. My only complaint is that the white ones seem to attract dirt, mine are almost completely dark brown, but will buy more colors soon!

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

Like many commenters, I was extremely happy with the previous 2 incarnations of the Wave Rider. I was vaguely okay with the 17 for a while, although I noticed a difference with it the first time I wore it--it seemed stiff, unresponsive, and clunky because of some inflexibility. I gave them time to break in, and they did to some degree, but they never felt as good as the 16s did (which were great). I feel like the 17s are more on the mid-firm side than mid-cushioned, and they feel flat to me. I ended up having some pretty continuous knee pain from wearing them, and easier fatigue in the legs, so I finally switched to a different shoe.

I am training for my 2nd marathon and just bought a new pair of gym shoes to motivate me. I honestly thought I would pass these up because they were Mizuno's but when I tried them on I loved the fit. They are a little wide but feel good when I run. Love them.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

My go-to trainer is the Nike Pegasus. I was intrigued by these Mizunos and just wanted a change (not a valid running choice). I didn't even try these in a store. They are a fun color and look nice. The tongue is large unless you extend the lacing up the islets. I wear a size 10 shoe - and consistently wear an 11 in running shoes - Brooks and Nike. These 11s are an easy 1/2 size too long. But I haven't had a problem running in them. They are comfortable, but the Pegasus feels more cushioned to me.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I've run in the Wave Rider 14, 15, 16's and now the "new" 17. Runner's who wear Wave Rider's will see an immediate difference. I think the overwhelming response from previous model owners is "not the same shoe" - and these are the users who seem to rate the new 17 poorly. I echo the comment of this shoe being nothing like the wave riders of the past. Nothing is the same. And after two runs, mine went back and went out and bought every Wave Rider 16 I could get my hands on. Shoe is flat, tighter through the top, I had pain under my foot, the "roll" is gone. If I wanted to feel like I was running in a totally different shoe I would have bought them. Disappointed, totally.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

The shoe looks great and generally feels great on but the problem I have is with the part of the shoe around the outer mid-foot. The Mizuno logo is tough and the shoe feels like it is pulled in too tightly in that area. It causes the shoe to be very constricting against the bones in the center outside part of the foot. This makes it almost impossible to wear for long periods of time. It may work for narrow feet but not wide feet

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I have a very difficult foot to fit. I was trying to find a replacement for the Wave Runner 15. These really hurt my feet because they have a support inside that hits right on a bone on the outside of my foot. I should mention that I have a very narrow foot. Otherwise, the shoes fit well in the AA width and are very stable with good arch support. I am trying to see if they will break in some more before I give up completely. Bring back the 15, please!!!!!!

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I typically run between 30-60 miles a week depending on the race I am training for. I wore the wave rider 16's and absolutely loved them. The 17's are so different than the 16's. I don't usually have trouble switching to a new shoe or feel like I have to break them in. The first day I ran with them I got a large blister on the instep of my right foot, my left ankle was so sore it hurt to walk, and my left anterior knee was hurting. I ran the next day in them and the problems worsened. I have since returned them. I don't have any issues like this normally. I am so disappointed. I really love the 16's and hope the next generation is more like those. If you are looking for a replacement for your 16's, don't plan on the 17's being similar!

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I've been a fan of Wave Riders for years. I went back to Mizuno's after achilles problems in the past. Had 2 pair of the 16's that I wore for various 1/2 marathons and the NYC Marathon last year (with great success). I should have stocked up on the 16's. Sad I bought 2 pair of the 17's early in the year to start training. Hoped they would loosen up and grow on me. They feel clunky and stiff. Not a lot a spring or cushion, front of foot goes numb, had to loosen up laces to the point of no medial support.

The only 3 pro's: The toe is lowered (straighter) from the 16's. These are lighter. Feet don't get wet with the "film." during light rainy runs. Not sure how breathable they will be in the heat of summer though?

I should have sent them back right away - RRS has a great policy, but I wanted to give them time. Sorry Mizuno - time's up. I'm moving on - will only be using these for the gym and very short runs. :-(

I have been a long time devotee of the wave rider series. I got the 17 three weeks out from the Boston marathon so i would have ample opportunity to break them in. I found these shoes to have three fatal flaws. First and foremost there is a material based pressure point that cuts in around the top lace- very painful. To accomodate i had to back out the tightness to where the shoe was almost falling off my foot. Second, the tongue is too short and shifts down on long hilly runs. Three there is a crease that forms across the top near the base of the toes. I do not plan to run the marathon in these shoes for sure

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I love everything about these shoes except one "upgrade" from the Wave Rider 16. The area around the laces is sealed rather than reinforced with an extra layer of material. This dug into my toes the first few runs. In fact I bled through the shoe! However, by the fourth run it had lessened-- no blood! No pain! The verdict is still out. If the irritation happens again, then I obviously won't be wearing them.

The Wave Rider 17 is a really nice shoe. It is lightweight and has a smooth ride. My favorite shoe of all time was the Precision. However, since they discontinued it I have been searching. This is closer in my opinion than the Sayanora. I wear a 8.5 in the Nike Flyknit Lunar and have been happy with this also in a 8.5. The heel is on the higher side but, I haven't noticed it at all!!

I bought the Wave Rider 17s to replace my 16s. As other reviewers have noted, they have changed the material/styling with how the laces attach to the shoes. I am no shoe pro, but the material around the laces on the 17's feels like it is a more stiff plastic. The 17's caused a blister near the base of my 4th toe. I am returning the 17's and have just re-ordered one of the last 16s in my size. I hope Mizuno quickly replaces this version of the Wave Rider.

I have owned this model since October and I love it! I used to pronate, but after a recent running assessment I was told I am now a neutral runner. Recently I have tried a few other models thinking "the grass is greener" with another and I kept coming back to Mizunos! It has the right cushioning, the right feel (snug but not too snug) and a perfect toe box for me!

I have been wearing Mizuno Wave Rider's for several years now and I have fallen in love with the Mizuno brand because of these shoes. But now I will be looking for a new pair of shoes to run in. I ignored the negative reviews I read when I purchased these because I thought that there was no way they could possibly be as bad as the reviews I read. I was wrong! They do not seem to have as much cushioning as the Wave Rider 16's have and the crease along the toe bed rubs my toes. I didn't even run in them because they bothered me as I walked around trying on the new fit. They also seem to have a wider toe bed and my feet are narrow, which is what drew me to the Wave Rider's in the first place. I am regretting not buying several pairs of the 16's when they had them.

I am getting used to them...love the price, feel and cushion...firm feel to the road yet I feel protected. Very cool looking! Hope they drop the heel and this will be the perfect shoe for marathoning!

After two generations of Wave Rider, I was prepared to ignore the naysayers and love my new 17s. What a disappointment! I had to take them off after one measly mile. The plastic overlay around the laces prevented the top of the shoe from flexing with my foot and the result was a rather painful dig at the base of my toes. Changing the lacing pattern didn't help.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I was looking for a running shoe that had a little lift in the heel; I have been running on the "trendy" flat shoes and my Achilles tendon is sore. The shoe serves the heel lift purpose but lacks enough cushion and seems a little narrow for me to feel comfortable about training in it. I will use it for work where I am on my feet 10-12 hours.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

First, I am a long time distance runner, and an avid fan of Mizuno, however this model of Wave Rider was disappointing. I wore through three pairs of wave rider 16s and was excited to "float" into the 17s like the ad campaign implied. "Your feet will disappear." Well, not so much for me. I've never had issues with shoes. I know my feet and my run style and can blindly order a few different brands in my size and have no issues whatsoever so that's what I expected here. I was saving my new shoes as a reward because as many of us runners know, new shoes are like birthdays. Sadly, once I allowed myself the treat it turned out to be a painful experience. The first run in them was a 3 mile run and I could tell immediately that something wasn't going to be good. They were stiff and felt abrasive on the tops of my toes, which was really odd. Never having had a shoe rub there before I assumed it was a lacing issue or perhaps I wasn't careful in how I aligned the tongue or some other user error. The second time I wore them was worse. My toes were blistered on the tops where the rough edges of the tongue meet the toe box and the toe box is rather right in these even for me and I usually wear a size 6. After a couple more runs it was clear this wouldn't break and only my feet would wear down so I had no choice but to return them. I'm hoping Mizuno hears the cries of their faithful users and fixes this issue for the 18s because it seems this has become a common complaint.

Got these back in December and recently ran a half marathon in them. The first couple of runs, the toe box felt tight and gave me inter-toe blisters. Was worried I'd have to return them, but loved how light and comfortable they were otherwise. Luckily over a couple more runs, it stretched out a bit and broke in. Super comfortable from then on. Put on a pair of my old Nikes the other day and immediately remembered why I loved Mizunos! Great shoe.

Love my Wave Rider 16 so I had high hopes for the new 17. I find the 17 to be just O.K. They are light weight and I love the color but the love stops there. Runs narrower then the last model and the new plastic overlay around the laces digs into my toes. The shoe feels stiff over all and I got my first blister ever from the collar of the shoe where it meets the tongue. I am not blister prone at all! The shoe upper feels stiff in a bad, needs to be broken in kind of way. Also my feet got really hot in 83 degree weather even with super lightweight socks. Going to search out some 16s while I can still get my hands on them.
