Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

My first comment about Mizunos in general is this: get properly fitted for them before buying! I normally wear a size 8 running shoe but Mizunos run smaller and tighter on me so I am wearing a size 9 wide. Now that that's out of the way- Mizunos are awesome! I was running in Asics Kayanos for years before switching over to Mizunos. I am so glad I switched. Mizunos are lighter, and in my opinion, have better stride stability. I was coming into these wave riders from the inspire. I liked the inspire but it was too much shoe (felt similar to Kayanos) and they wore out fairly quickly on me (350 miles). I decided to switch to the wave riders after reading dozens of positive reviews about the shoe. The wave riders do not disappoint! I was only able to put about 10 miles on the wave riders to break them in before my half marathon and my feet felt awesome during the race. If these shoes can hold up for longer than 350 miles, I'll be stocking up with a few more pairs.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I'm not going 'oh wow I love these shoes' like it did with the 15 & 16. They seem adequate, but lack the cushioning of prior models. It could be bothering me a little more since I'm dealing with plantar fasciitis right now. I'm also having a little trouble with the laces, they seem to tighten over my instep and get loose lower over the ball of my foot. This is a problem I have with a lot of shoes, but never before with the Rider, that is why I loved them so much.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I've been running in Mizunos since the Wave Rider 7, and I can't believe I am changing brands. Loved the Wave Rider until the 16 and 17. The 16 toe box was narrow, but acceptable with the appropriate socks. The 17 toe box is even more narrow and downright blister raising, even though the 17 has moved to a more streamlined, upper. I've run in them for less than 3 months (less than 250 miles) and the shoe just isn't what it was. The cushioning in the shoe hasn't held up. I can stand to run my short runs in them with new cushioning gel inserts, but am going back to ASICS Gel Cumulus for more cushioning and hopefully fewer blisters. So disappointed!

I am on my 6th pair of these and I LOVE them. I had the 16, and then the 17 came out and they are both great to me. I have a wide foot, and bunions as well. They feel great on my feet. I do wear them with the custom inserts from Roadrunner.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I've worn this shoe for quite a while now, but every new pair has this excess fabric hanging off seam in big toe area. Wore them for 5 miles when I received these and gave myself a huge blister. Don't know why they can't smooth out that area like other models of the Mizuno, hoping the 18 is smooth because I really like the shoe. Does wear out quickly, but only because they are lightweight and fast. I can handle that, but not the raw edge!

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I have been wearing the Mizuno Wave Riders on and off for years. This is a true neutral shoe with some forefoot cushioning. I run about 25 to 30 miles per week, mostly on pavement and the shoe wears out pretty fast on that surface (it always has). Also, the shoe pinches the top part of my feet where the toes connect to the upper foot. It can be quite painful if you have high arches. The almost rigid plastic covering over the laces is causing this pressure. I have not felt this discomfort in previous versions of the shoe. I am taking the shoe to a cobbler in hopes he can loosen the plastic so it doesn't cut into my feet.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

This is my 6th pair of Mizunos. I have tried Brooks and had some horrible shin pain. This pair seems to lack some of the quality in the materials that my older models have. So far, I feel like the stability control is slightly less effective than previous models. The width seems a little roomier than the old pairs also. The color I got is great (teal with some magenta and bright blue accents), and the extra room in the toe box is appreciated.

I've worn Mizuno for 8 years and this one doesn't disappoint. It is lightweight, fits narrow feet well, is durable and much better colors than the last models. The material used on top of the shoe is more breathable and fits better than older versions.

I'm a walker/runner. The shoe I ordered previously caused my shins to hurt the entire time. This shoe feels great. I feels like I could run forever. My duration of running was actually longer than usual. A little on the 'girly' side as far as looks, but the feel is more important. Very light weight.

I loooooove this shoe! I've never bought a shoe for running before, mainly because I've never taken running seriously. But this was absolutely perfect for me. It cushions my arches and it's stylish enough not to make me feel out of place wearing it about town. I wear these for everyday tasks where I know I'll be on my feet a lot,as well as for road (mostly) and trail running. Highly recommend!

I am so disappointed. Why oh why do shoe manufactures hand the designing over to the CFOs . Mizunou go back to your basics, make a great running shoe. I run 25-30 miles a week.
What's wrong with Waive Rider 17?
                          1) Stiff unresponsive fabric (awful)
                          2) Narrowed toe box
                          3) gave me blisters over big toe flex area ( Never had blisters with Mizunou before)
                          4) poor cushioning for a cushion shoe.
                          5) knee pain ( never had knee pain with Mizunou before)

I can only hope Waive Rider 18 will go back to the 16 basics.... Otherwise, I will be looking for another brand.

I was terrified to buy this shoe based on the reviews, but decided to give them a chance. They are wonderful. I have worn wave riders for 6+ years and love them! theses shoes are lovable too. I bought a half size smaller based on the Mizuno web sites recommendation and that was spot on, as far as what others are complaining about, I have not had any issues. I have thin feet with super high arches, I am also super tall so the fit of the shoe and the cushioning is perfect for me. I often ended up with extra material at the toe box on the older versions of this shoe, no mas ;)

This is a great shoe, just make sure you break them in! The first time I wore them they pinched my pinkie toes just a bit. I wore them all day and walked about five miles. By the end of the day they were perfect.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I ran in this model for years, then Mizuno changed the toe box and it was too narrow. I switched to Nike, which was amazing, since they had always been too narrow....then, Mizuno changed the toe box back to being wider and I was stoked! The 16 I bought in a wide width, and they were perfect right from the box. I can usually go either medium or wide, but this 17 is too narrow, I think and I am debating whether or not I should return them for the wide width.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

The newest iteration of the Mizuno Wave Rider (17) is a great departure from my beloved shoe. The shoe itself seems elongated with extremely awkward lacing placement that cuts across my toes as I step off. A narrower toe box resulted in hot spots and blisters. I've been wearing Wave Riders for over 10 years and looked forward to each new pair. Wave Riders were a slim and lightweight shoe with a hard ride and swift feel. I run marathons, half-marathons, and casual miles. I'm very disappointed in this update and I'm currently looking for other options.

I'm not sure what's with all the off reviews. This shoe is great! Mizuno has done an awesome job of making a lightweight, moderate cushioned, real neutral shoe.

I have had Mizunos for years and every time I've tried different brands I come back. I run about 25-30 miles a week and these shoes are so comfortable. I find that when I put them on before I run they aren't my favorite, but when I'm running I don't even notice them which is how I like my shoes. I haven't had any rubbing issues. My only complaint is that the white ones seem to attract dirt, mine are almost completely dark brown, but will buy more colors soon!

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

Like many commenters, I was extremely happy with the previous 2 incarnations of the Wave Rider. I was vaguely okay with the 17 for a while, although I noticed a difference with it the first time I wore it--it seemed stiff, unresponsive, and clunky because of some inflexibility. I gave them time to break in, and they did to some degree, but they never felt as good as the 16s did (which were great). I feel like the 17s are more on the mid-firm side than mid-cushioned, and they feel flat to me. I ended up having some pretty continuous knee pain from wearing them, and easier fatigue in the legs, so I finally switched to a different shoe.

I am training for my 2nd marathon and just bought a new pair of gym shoes to motivate me. I honestly thought I would pass these up because they were Mizuno's but when I tried them on I loved the fit. They are a little wide but feel good when I run. Love them.

Love these shoes, just wish they lasted longer. However, my shoes that last a long time are heavy and not good for longer runs.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

My go-to trainer is the Nike Pegasus. I was intrigued by these Mizunos and just wanted a change (not a valid running choice). I didn't even try these in a store. They are a fun color and look nice. The tongue is large unless you extend the lacing up the islets. I wear a size 10 shoe - and consistently wear an 11 in running shoes - Brooks and Nike. These 11s are an easy 1/2 size too long. But I haven't had a problem running in them. They are comfortable, but the Pegasus feels more cushioned to me.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I've run in the Wave Rider 14, 15, 16's and now the "new" 17. Runner's who wear Wave Rider's will see an immediate difference. I think the overwhelming response from previous model owners is "not the same shoe" - and these are the users who seem to rate the new 17 poorly. I echo the comment of this shoe being nothing like the wave riders of the past. Nothing is the same. And after two runs, mine went back and went out and bought every Wave Rider 16 I could get my hands on. Shoe is flat, tighter through the top, I had pain under my foot, the "roll" is gone. If I wanted to feel like I was running in a totally different shoe I would have bought them. Disappointed, totally.

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

The shoe looks great and generally feels great on but the problem I have is with the part of the shoe around the outer mid-foot. The Mizuno logo is tough and the shoe feels like it is pulled in too tightly in that area. It causes the shoe to be very constricting against the bones in the center outside part of the foot. This makes it almost impossible to wear for long periods of time. It may work for narrow feet but not wide feet

I have a very difficult foot to fit. I was trying to find a replacement for the Wave Runner 15. These really hurt my feet because they have a support inside that hits right on a bone on the outside of my foot. I should mention that I have a very narrow foot. Otherwise, the shoes fit well in the AA width and are very stable with good arch support. I am trying to see if they will break in some more before I give up completely. Bring back the 15, please!!!!!!

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I typically run between 30-60 miles a week depending on the race I am training for. I wore the wave rider 16's and absolutely loved them. The 17's are so different than the 16's. I don't usually have trouble switching to a new shoe or feel like I have to break them in. The first day I ran with them I got a large blister on the instep of my right foot, my left ankle was so sore it hurt to walk, and my left anterior knee was hurting. I ran the next day in them and the problems worsened. I have since returned them. I don't have any issues like this normally. I am so disappointed. I really love the 16's and hope the next generation is more like those. If you are looking for a replacement for your 16's, don't plan on the 17's being similar!

Comments about Womens Mizuno Wave Rider 17 Running Shoe:

I've been a fan of Wave Riders for years. I went back to Mizuno's after achilles problems in the past. Had 2 pair of the 16's that I wore for various 1/2 marathons and the NYC Marathon last year (with great success). I should have stocked up on the 16's. Sad I bought 2 pair of the 17's early in the year to start training. Hoped they would loosen up and grow on me. They feel clunky and stiff. Not a lot a spring or cushion, front of foot goes numb, had to loosen up laces to the point of no medial support.

The only 3 pro's: The toe is lowered (straighter) from the 16's. These are lighter. Feet don't get wet with the "film." during light rainy runs. Not sure how breathable they will be in the heat of summer though?

I should have sent them back right away - RRS has a great policy, but I wanted to give them time. Sorry Mizuno - time's up. I'm moving on - will only be using these for the gym and very short runs. :-(
