Although it's a 12mm drop the stack heights of both the heel and forefoot aren't overly high. I use the Kazan in rotation with my La Sportiva Helios - which have a 4mm drop. The Kazan fits in perfectly as I needed something with a little more of a softer ride with a higher drop for recover runs. I was surprised that I had to size down to size 11, which fit me perfect whereas I normally wear a size 11.5 in Muzinos. The design and materials used are top notch. Not that I run sock less but the seamless upper and thick tongue would totally allow for sock less running. Can't speak to using them in wet conditions but the traction on hard packed dry surfaces here in SoCal has been great, and the shoe is extremely flexible and is comfortable on both trails - from fire roads and single track with roots and rocks to paved roads. Definitely an underrated shoe that I am glad I looked at and bought. Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: I've been running for well over 20 years now, and when it came to the trails I was always torn between using a "Road" shoe for the flexibility and response, and a "Trail" shoe for the protection and extra grip. Now with the Wave Kazan I have the best of both worlds. Not only have I found that this shoe has all the grip and protection I need, but it is also very light weight, flexible and responsive when I really want to get going. An extra plus to this shoe is that it also feels good on the road when I'm running from the house to the trails, and you can't really say that about all performance trail shoes. Pros

Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: Use on all dirt trails
Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: -Light weight relative to other trail shoes -Good grip -Doesn't have a very tall heel, so slight ankle twists aren't exaggerated Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: I use these on less well maintained trails. As I am used to the Sayonara, it's fun to have a shoe with a bit more height and padding. Pros

Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: Excellent trail shoe. I wear 10.5 in Brooks Adrenaline GTS and RR fit expert recommended I get a 10.5 in this shoe as well. I am glad I did.
Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: I buy them shoes two weeks ago and I seem excellent, they are very soft and good for the job to run. Pros

Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: Really great shoe put on 30 miles on these because of Snow and trails that I run on. Was really impressed with how much cushion it had once I hit the roughest patches of trails. It's also a great road shoe as well. It adapts quickly from one surface to the next.
Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: My Kazan's are the best. I have hard to fit feet. These shoes fit so well, I'm going to order another pair. Love the colors and design. Pros

Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: Just did Pikes Peak Ascent in these over rough, rocky terrain and they were very comfortable with good traction and support throughout--great shoe.
Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: I ran in the shoes for about a month before sitting down to offer you my opinion. I found that the shoes were versatile and adapted easily to the terrain (these are clearly must-haves for trail running). The Kazans are the best of both worlds, a lightweight shoe with the protection and stability required for the ultimate trail running experience. Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: The last few pairs of trail shoes I've had always lacked in one of the four areas that are important to me: comfort, support, performance, durability. The Kazan is the first trail shoe that has met all of my criteria. I couldn't be more please with this shoe. When I hit the trails, I know that my feet will be happy! Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: Mizuno not only raised the bar with this one... they set it miles out of everyone else's reach! Designed by trail runners for trail runners - stylish, rugged, durable, and incredibly adaptable. The upper part of the shoe is incredibly lightweight and breathable yet rugged enough to handle any terrain. The selling point of the shoe for me, though, is the "XtaticRide" x-groove midfoot. This allows your foot to adjust not only on a front-back axis, but on a left-right axis as well. PERFECT for uneven terrain which most trails offer. I also loved the X-studded sole - crazy grip in dirt, sand, mud, gravel, rocks and everything else I've taken them through. Had them for about 5 months now and will never go back. Thank you, Mizuno! Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: I just entered the world of trail running, and there couldn't be a better shoe than the Wave Kazan to be introduced to this world in. With an amazing style and a great comfort, these shoes are fantastic for making the transition over from the pavement to the trails. They're lightweight yet extremely durable, which I wouldn't have expected in a trail shoe. I've been a huge fan of Mizuno's running shoes, and their move to expand to the world of trail running doesn't disappoint. These are definitely worth checking out if you're going to be breaking free from the pavement. Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: The Wave Kazan trail running shoes provided just the right amount of support for my feet and ankles, allowing me to tackle the most technical trails. But they weren't too heavy to the point of dragging me down. Definitely recommend! Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: To all it may concern, I am an avid trail runner and ultra marathoner.. I have accepted the Mizuno philosophy and agree with what is offered in the shoes provided through the entire range .. The design and more importantly materials and construct is always consistent with what is stated in their marketing .... The new trail shoes are a nice addition which I have decided to start my 100k next month in the Hampshire 100.. I have approx 70 miles on them now.. I needed about 25 miles to sufficiently loosen the mid foot up .. I expected this due to the tougher sole and rugged tread.. The foot box has plenty of room and are true to size..the shoes provide a nice supple ride while providing enough protection in the sole tread and toe cap for anything that I've encountered from small boulders to pea stone, gravel and plenty of traction in loose soil and sand .. I am happy with the weight .... I did change the laces to bungee style for easy on and off and foot swell.. I recommend Mizuno offer these as an option in the box..thanks for reading.. Happy Trails Pros

Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: I love Mizuno shoes so I jumped on that one knowing it was a stability shoe.
Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: After years of the Wave Ascend being my go-to trail shoe, the Kazan somehow outdid it! From run #1, I could tell the protective nature of the forefoot foam is improved; the traction of the outsole is superior; the ability to flex around obstacles (a necessity in Rocky Mountain trail running!) is drastically improved. The upper is like a sock holding snug, but friction-free around my foot (it's seamless). I can go on and on about the Kazan, but I'd rather go take them for a run now. Just one caveat, I sized a half size smaller than I had on Wave Ascends (Ascend was 10, Kazan is 9.5). Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: While the sole of the shoe is sturdy enough to take a beating on trails without beating up my foot, the rest of the shoe is light enough that it doesn't feel like I'm wearing clodhoppers that will drain the energy from my legs. Also, it's got great traction for which I like as I've had my issues on trails before in road shoes. Comments about Mens Mizuno Wave Kazan Trail Running Shoe: I put some enjoyable miles in the Wave Kazan out in the Arizona Sonora Desert. For a great trail shoe I look for lightness, impact protection from the jagged rocks that riddle the desert and a low profile that makes my feet feel it’s connecting to the ground on each push-off. I felt the Wave Kazan cover all these particulars. I was also pleasantly surprise how ventilating the upper of the shoe was and that helped while running in the hot temps. Pros
