Product MIZ796 Review

Excellent Trail Running Shoe. Tolerable for the road.

Surprisingly good. Very happy after several 10-mile trail runs during the 2-weeks. These never required break-in and I've not noticed ANY wear. The downside is running to and from those trails on the road. This is not an ideal shoe for any length of road. I've seen some comments suggesting it's "okay" for running to the trails. I've run about 5 to 6 miles on-road and it was not fun. I was almost at the point of going barefoot. The sole is too stiff and the traction is limited. I definitely can't recommend this as an all-around shoe. It's strictly for trail. It's not as defined as the Salomon SpeedCross 3 (not even close). But, the cleats are substantial enough to make roadwork a less than ideal prospect. With that said, this shoe is awesome on steep and sandy terrain. It's great for downhills and I've not lost any traction even when at sub 5-min. pace on 20% downhills. I've tested this on loose 40% uphills without issue.

Just Right

As a forefoot runner I find the Mizuno Wave Hayate to be amazing on the streets and on the less beaten path. Right out the box and onto the pavement for a three-miler; these shoes felt amazing, did not overcorrect my feet and allowed me to maintain the integrity of stride even though I normally run in the Mizuno Wave Ferus. After a series of examinations by the amazing personnel of RoadrunnerSports, I have tried running in the Asics Gel Kayano 20 and the Saucony Fast Twitch 6 but neither compared to the Mizuno Wave Hayate. The Kayano had to much cushioning for me to feel the ground beneath me and the Fast Twitch over corrected my feet causing my ankles to scream in pain. The Hayate is just right. A step up from the Wave Ferus (which is personally my favorite running shoe) allowing me to take to the road and not be destroyed by the pavement. I normally wear a 12, so I ordered a half size up and while this was sufficient I feel a full size up may be a tad better. - Go Army, Sink Navy!

Light weight, breathable, sharp and sticky hybrid runners

I run with these about 5-10 miles a week. Live and run in SoCal desert area. Off road, I run on sand, small to medium rocks. Takes about 2 miles to get to off road trail area, where I have to run on sidewalks. I love how the mesh uppers keep the shoe cool in hot climates, although makes the socks dirty. Treads are though and provide a lot of traction, but I find them almost a bit harsh on sidewalk and paved roads. Biggest negative is I find the soles stiff and small rocks the size of acorns can be uncomfortable when I run on them on the desert trails. Appearence; they have to be the coolest shoes I have ever had. I have the blue with black and yellow ones. I have low arches and slight pronation and haven't had any issues with these shoes. Price is right too. I recommend, but would recommend for use for primarily on trail surfaces.

Terrific Shoe for Mountain Ultra

Awesome trail shoe. With history of plantar fasciitis, I wanted a lightweight trail shoe with good stability. Got the shoes 1 1/2 wks ago and wore them 18K on the Seoul trail. No issues, so wore them yesterday on the Korea Ultra 50K, up/down rugged mountail terrain, elevation gain 12,291 feet, topping five peaks between Dongducheon and Pocheon, Korea. Hardly noticed the shoes. Feet felt great during and after the run.
