On my 2nd pair. Used the first for my 1st marathon. To think I bought it because I liked how the sole looks (and its a neutral shoe). Just wish that NB made an all suede version. THIS SHOE ROCKS!

I have been running in the 878's for seven or eight years. The upgraded model just didn't do it for me. I think the width and balance of this shoe is superb. I don't know what I'll do when the are truly out of stock.

I am Male, 58, 275lbs and had a couple of pairs of 878's a few years ago and always liked their cushioning and wide toe box which makes runnng a joy. When they moved mftg to China I was concerned they'd be different so I moved to an ASICS which made my feet hurt a lot. Now I am back on 878's, very glad I returned and really hope they keep being made. A bit hokey looking but still feel great and a great price too.

Best shoe I've ever worn. Going on my 35 pair . High mileage, only shoe that feels good and works for me. God help me when these classics are no longer availble.

Sun, October 19,2008:
These are the most comfortable shoes I have worn. I have high arches and under pronate (neutral). I also suffer from plantar fascitis this shoe takes care of it all. The only bad thing that I can say is that at 180 lbs. I started running and wore the tread off in about three months. I don't feel that is very long for a sneaker to last. Unfortunately I cannot get this shoe again in my size which is a 10 D. I switched to Adidas Boston classic because it is advertised as a pronating neutral shoe but I am finding that isn't true. I am running on the sides of my feet. So back to square one and not sure what to replace This new Balance 878 with.

Well, RRS finally lost me as a customer. I just received a new pair of 878's, laced them up and discovered that they were used. One lace was 9 inches longer than the other and a bit dirty. So RRS cleaned up a returned pair, replaced one lace and sold them to me as new. Buyer beware. I'll go to the NB shoe store from now on and not get ripped off again.

My husband and I have used the 878s for many, many years and though we've tried outhers, we've never found a more comfortable shoe for running. Each time we need to reorder, we cross our fingers, hoping hoping RR Sports is still carrying them. We can't find them anywhere else, so please don't discontinue them.

I have been running in this shoe for a decade. It is the only shoe that I have found that I can run pain free in. I hope that New Balance keeps this shoe in their inventory, as without it my fitness regime just might crash!

I've been running in this shoe--and its previous generations--literally problem-free for more than 20 years, but thought I would advance to a more sophisticated and pricier NB shoe. With the amount of running I do, I thought, why not try something better?
I did try a pair of NB 881...problems occurred...now I'm back to the 878. Why fix something if it's not broken? If RRS stops selling this shoe, I'm in trouble.

Rated those made in USA 5 stars, but still ok made in China. Much stiffer and causes heel blisters and sock wear out due to liner at heel top too hard.

Iam on my 14th pair of 878. I like the slightly roomier fit, the cushioning and they last. The only place I find them is RRS and I am not looking forward to when you can no longer get them.

I have run in these for 5 years and have tried the 879 and 880. Neither come close to the comfort and durability of the 878. Please continue to offer this model. I can't find it anywhere else.

I would have given the USA made 878 5 stars - but they seem a little more rigid since the construction of these shoes shifted to China. Still an OK shoe.

I tried to order two more pair, but you no longer have my size (9-2E). I typically run 30 mi/week and alternating 2 pair lasts me a year. The upgraded NBs are not nearly as good as the 878s. Please try to keep these in stock.

I am a raving fan of New Balance. The 878's are one of the most comfortable shoes that I have ever had the pleasure of wearing. I'm on my 5th pair now and was disappointed to learn this past Sunday that RRS was out of my size. I was prepared to purchase another 2-3 pair. Can we expect any more?

Still a pretty good shoe - but not as good as when they were made here in the USA - shoe seems less forgiving since being made in China.
