On my 2nd pair. Used the first for my 1st marathon. To think I bought it because I liked how the sole looks (and its a neutral shoe). Just wish that NB made an all suede version. THIS SHOE ROCKS!

Well, RRS finally lost me as a customer. I just received a new pair of 878's, laced them up and discovered that they were used. One lace was 9 inches longer than the other and a bit dirty. So RRS cleaned up a returned pair, replaced one lace and sold them to me as new. Buyer beware. I'll go to the NB shoe store from now on and not get ripped off again.

I'e always liked New Balance, they make a geat affordable shoe, you can buy one that doesn't cost as much or you can buy one that costs more..it's up to you...you are still going to get a long lasting shoe. The one that costs more are the ones that kind of jazzes you up more, okay? Makes you look better when you are out there doing more than walking or running we'll say..I say this now for every shoe I review here, I buy my own insoles separate from Road Runner for my own pesonal comfort, I just like the extra superb cushioning, I'd rather go this route than looking just for a shoe that fits a high arch with comfort cushion when it still may not be "enough" or it may not be a shoe I want, I want to be able to pick any shoe I want on this site. I like to do a lot of walking and hiking but this shoe I'd rather do walking in for some reason, who knows. I'm a female but like the mens syle of this better than the womens, it supports my foot more, I need all I can get there....this Classic is not a expensive New Balance but it's a good shoe, it's durable, you would be happy with it. It's easy to clean up, not as easy as some because it's white of course but pretty easy. You would like this shoe, you would like any New Balance shoe, I've had plenty of them.

These are NOT the 878 that you remember!

The good news is that that midsole is better, more cushioning and added durability.

The bad news is the heel counters are no longer molded and the are higher. Some may not notice or care and some will be buying a blister machine.

I like mine, but I LOVED my old ones!

I was a 1060's series guy and thought I would try something new...these "ride" too high in the back and cause blisters. I'm heading back to the 1080's (replaced the 1060's).

The SL2 last of the NB 878 provides a generous toe box for those of us with wider feet without requiring moving up to a wide width shoe. I've been running in this model for 10 years and hope it never goes away. I can put on a new pair from the box and go run 20 miles without any breakin issues. I'm on my 41st pair with ~ 20,000 miles run in this show model. 2 dozen marathons, 5 ultra marathons, 6 Half Ironman and 2 full Ironman races all trained for in this shoe.

I have really high arches and have worn this shoe for about 10 years and have no intentions of switching. I also have wide feet so the extra wide shoe (2E) is perfect. I run about 20-25 miles/ week on roads and trails and these shoes have great durability and cushioning.

One of the best shoes I have run or walked in. Very comfortable,the thing I like about New Balance shoes is the width selection, I have somewhat wide feet and different width sizes really does matter when it to comes to shoe selection for comfort, especially for running and walking. I have owned several brand shoes in almost 30 years of running and walking, but this particular brand and model is by far the best I have had, my only concern is I just hope they do not discontinue this model.

I stumbled onto this shoe years ago while trying to find a running shoe that didn't cramp my toes. Apparently my forefoot is wider than normal. The toebox in this shoe is just right for me. I buy them two pairs at a time and rotate between runs. When I decide that I need new shoes, I demote the old ones to yard work, grass mowing, etc. I also keep one pair for casual wear only (never used for running). I don't remember how many pairs I've bought over the years, but it's a substantial number. As long I they're available, I will continue to buy them.

I have used nothing but the NB shoes in this series (875, 876, 878) for many years and am always happy with the fit and feel. I have high arches and small feet and these protect me greatly. I wear out the treads long before any other part.

Wear them daily. Rotate between two pair. They're not a fashion statement just pure comfort for a straight foot and high arch.

Really good fit. Not great cushioning but the price indicates this. Not a great shoe for running but is good for walking.

I am training for my first 10K so I may not have much experience, but I felt like I was running on clouds with this shoe compared to any other shoe that I have worn. I carry 248 pounds on a six-foot-seven frame, have plantar fasciitis, high arches and bone spurs. Don't let any of these hurdles keep you down. If these shoes can make a runner out of me, they can help others with similar symptoms. My only small concern is cosmetic, that the mostly white color will look gray and dirty very soon out of the box.

I am so happy I can still buy this pretty neutral shoe. As a woman with wide feet, the male New Balance shoe seem to be a bit more comfortable for me.
I hardly dare to write this down, but I started running daily on this shoe (6 miles) ten years ago. Since I did not find a comfortable replacement, I kept using this shoe over the yeras (although I now only use it to walk the dog or work in the yard). Of course the sole has no traction anymore by now. But I still love them!

Do not follow my example, just buy new ones. It only proves how great these shoes are. Today I am going to buy a brand new pair, since I started running daily again.

I have been running in the 878's for seven or eight years. The upgraded model just didn't do it for me. I think the width and balance of this shoe is superb. I don't know what I'll do when the are truly out of stock.

Best shoe I've ever worn. Going on my 35 pair . High mileage, only shoe that feels good and works for me. God help me when these classics are no longer availble.
