I have had three pairs of this shoe I love them. All three have had the back of the sole come off. One pair lasted about two weeks.Fix the defect and they are my favorite shoe ever. "The quality of the construction of this model is poor. The outsole of both shoes came off at the back. Got so bad it was like I was walking in flip flops.

NEW BALANCE USA!!!! I am not a runner by any means but, I am a sneaker Connoisseur. Lets just say I have a room full of sneakers, and out of all of the hundreds of shoes I have some worth $500 I'd say by far these are one of the best. You can't beat the price either. I have paid near $200 dollars for New Balance Made in The UK, and I have to say that that the US is a near second. The midsole would be the only thing I would work on. Quality craftsmanship and great materials make this shoe a all time classic. A totally comfortable shoe that looks awesome and wearable for for more than just running. In all I'd Rather be wearing my 580 over my $200 Air Maxes or Jordans. New balance Keep up the good work and continue making these classics. I just wish roadrunner still had my size in the M 998's

Excellent! I have bought this sneaker from here RRS to China. 580 is very comfortable and stylish. Good stability. RRS does a good job to bring this sneaker to the market, yet M580 and M998 are rare items in the worldwide market now. Thank you. ^_^

I have run 4 marathons in them and weight over 225+ pounds. Not the most stylsh but they kept me injury free. They had been my shoe for 10 years. I tried other shoes. I hope they bring them back.

This was the best shoe I ever owned and I've used the M580 since they came out w/no injuries. I'm "SO" sorry that they discontinued them. I've tried literally dozens of shoes and nothing is better for the heavy runner... I'm bummed I can't get them anymore.

This is a great running shoe, second to none. Alot of people misrepresent the facts here in their reviews, for a whole host's of reasons. If you're searching for that once in a life time love affair the 580 is a perfect fit. Don't get me wrong, in the 1980's New Balance made alot of great running shoes. It appears the only warehoused items left over from the 80's were the NB580. Runner's World magazines from the 1980's usually sell on eBay at better prices then current additions do. Since the invention of trails, roads have become off limits with danagerous drivers popping up all over. Road running shoes have also become less in demand. Lately trails have become more dangerous, and tread mills are taking off with the likes of Vision Quest's over sized LCD panels, double sided waxed running boards, and industrail strenght 400 pound tread mill frames. This is the perfect shoe for someone suffering from swollen ankles and feet from a bad heart.

OK ?I bought my first pair of 580s when i was in high school.Im on my 3rd pair of 580s, they have been around and stood the test of time. And i love mine. yes the 587, is far more supportive and a better running shoe, but my 580s have moved from being my running shoes, to being my all around sneakers But for that, they are the best!,they are light, they are soft, cushioned and supportive. my feet stay cooler in the 580s than the 587s by far.Im a big guy, my 580s support me, and my weight, and the cushioning holds up. In summer, these stay cool and are soft enough that i can walk or run without socks on, and my feet still feel great. oh yea, and they look cool too, no glitsy flash, just a good American made pair of running sneakers. I will be wearing them for the next 20 years

I think this shoe is great for walking. As a flat-footed runner who needs a motion control shoe, it has been a severe disappointment. The last is not straight, so pronation is poorly managed at best. The shoe is relatively hard and the ride is horrid. My feet feel like they are slapping down. They are being retired to walking duty after less than 100 miles.

I ran in these all summer. Good sturdy shoe, but for heavier runners than I, which makes them a little too hard for my 140lbs. Moved to 890's....

Extra wide width (4E) and stability when walking/light trekking--my husband rates these his best all-round shoes

I have used 580s for several years now. Not bad, based on the fact that I have cut down on my running and done more work the last year on elyptical trainers with the 580s. I formerly used the 998s for many miles and years and for a jogger believe they are better.

These are, without a doubt, the worst running shoes I have purchased in almost thirty years of running. They are like strapping two boards on your feet - they provide less cushioning and support than my first pair of Brooks back in the late seventies. Do yourself a favor and spend more money to buy a decent shoe and avoid injury. I am buying another pair of Asics Kayanos - my most recent shoe buy prior to trying out the NBs.

Good shoe. I've had a pair for over a year and they hold up pretty well. Not the best for running though. Definitly not much cushioning and they are really too bulky and heavy. If you are a serious runner, definitly look for a better shoe.
