The M580 is a real workhorse of a shoe. It is extremely stable, relatively flexible, and firmly cushioned. All of this comes at the cost of the 580 being on the heavy side. A racing flat it isn't. But unless your an ultra fast pro or sub-elite, that shouldn't really matter. I use it as one of 3 pairs in my current rotation, and they fit in very nicely. This shoe runs a little big. I wear a size 10D with a thumbnail's width at the end in all my running shoes except for the 580, which I went down to a 9.5D. If you need/want an ultra stable, heavy duty motion control shoe that can take it and weight is not an issue, the M580 is definitely worth a look.

Hey guys,

I just ordered this shoe after running with these for years back in the day...very exciting to have this shoe back on the market. But, I wear 13 2E NB shoes in every shoe I've ever ordered, and this 580 is too big, so I'm returning it for a 12 hoping it's not too short. Sorry, haven't run in them yet, but will post more after I get my second set of 12 2E's instead of the 13 2E's I ordered.

There is a reason this shoe has been around so long. It is a comfortable, well cushioned, long wearing shoe with classic good looks. I hope they never discontinue this model.

use for long days at conventions and on concrete floors, 8 to 10 hours per day then going out at night dining etc. Fabulous work out shoe too, cushion and stability for easy on the feet workouts. Comfortable, stylish and of course the classics are called that for a reason

I'm a competitive runner and regularly compete in marathons, half marathons, and ultras. I always rotate 3 pairs of running shoes each run depending on what I'm doing. The M580 fits nicely into my rotation. It's an old school, classic running shoe that's comfortable and very durable. It's definitely on the heavier side, but you unless you're a professional runner, that won't matter. Highly recommended!

Because the mid sole is thicker than most other running shoes, I wear NB 580 in the winter to give me more cushioning against the cold and the gravelly road surface.

Unfortunately, the outer heel of my shoe receives most of my running impact, thus this area wears thin quickly. So I must purchase a new shoe earlier than expected. Nonetheless, I will continue to buy it. The price is great as well.

The 580 remains a popular choice in the Urban/suburban style market. It's a shame NB has moved away from that market and is ignoring their needs.

I've been running for over 30 years and have chalked up almost 50,000 miles. This shoe is a dependable shoe for the larger runner. I'm 5'10" tall and weigh in at a delightful 230 pounds so I know what I'm talking about. If you want a comfortable cruise this si a great shoe for the price.

I have been wearing them for many years. Usually buy 2 pairs per year for casual wear and exercise walking. I use my older pairs for mowing grass, painting. I wear one or another pair nearly all the time. I like the style, and appreciate that I can get them in wider sizes and still have good support and stability for a heavier person like me. My only gripe is they can be slippery on greasy or wet tile floors or very smooth wet concrete.

I have used the 580s for many years and have logged hundreds of miles with them. I have a flat foot and these give me the control and comfort I need. I usually have two pair so that I can alternate them.

A wonderful run out of the box shoe, but after 100 miles the blown rubber soles start showing ware. At 125 miles the black rubber on outside heal area wares all the way down to the white layer under and within another 50-100 down to the blue plastic area.

Not very attractive, however they work well for a big guy who over pronates.

The quality of the construction of this model is poor. The outsole of both shoes came off at the back. Got so bad it was like I was walking in flip flops.

The New Balance M580 is a great running shoe. I remember first using it back in 1995, and I decided to get it again. I'm a competitive runner and regularly run marathons and ultras, and the 580 fits into my rotation nicely. The shoe is a bit heavy and is at the opposite end of the spectrum from a racing flat, but unless you're an elite marathoner, that shouldn't matter. The shoe seems to run a tad big, I normally wear a size 10D in all my running shoes with a thumbnail's width at the end, and this is the only shoe I have to go down to a 9.5 in, so I would keep that in mind.
