Comments about Mens New Balance Running Shoes | New Balance 992 - Road Runner Sports:

Tried on the 993s yesterday in the store. They are definitely cut 1/2 size too small. (How come?) Tried to go up 1/2 size but that was too big. BRING BACK THE 992!!!

Comments about Mens New Balance Running Shoes | New Balance 992 - Road Runner Sports:

The 991s are narrower than the 992s. (Even the box they came in is smaller.) I'm a walker and a 2E and love the 992s. Just snatched up two more pairs on the cheap on the web before they are completely submerged by the 993s. The 993s are NOTICEABLY--both visually and actually--at least 1/2 smaller than the stated size (as compared to the 992s). Also the arch seemed flat, even with orthotics.

Comments about Mens New Balance Running Shoes | New Balance 992 - Road Runner Sports:

Shoes feel great, until you run in them. Never had a shoe with an upper that absorbs as much sweat as these do. Water logged everytime I finish running. Plantar fasciia began to bother me again within 3 weeks of wearing the 992. Can't wear them more than 4 miles without foot pain. Asics GT2140 and Adidas Supernova provide a much more stable, durable, and comfortable platform for 10+ mile runs. I'm a 5'7" 180' runner.

Comments about Mens New Balance Running Shoes | New Balance 992 - Road Runner Sports:

This is the worst New Balance shoe I have ever worn. Running in this shoe caused all manner of problems in my chest, back, and arms, including pain, numbness and soreness. I quit wearing them after I could not get out of bed one morning. I went back to a pair of old 991's, and the problems I had experienced with the 992's disappeared immediately. The 992 is nothing like the 991. The support in the 992 is very different and obvious (I wear orthotics). If New Balance's name were not on the 992, I would swear it was made by another manufacturer since I have worn New Balance shoes for many years. The 992 is a loser.

Comments about Mens New Balance Running Shoes | New Balance 992 - Road Runner Sports:

This is one of the best running shoes I've worn. I've had many different kinds over the years and they've all been good, but the 992s have been great. With the other shoes I've had, they've been good at first, but after a couple of months of logging alot of miles (I'm a marathon/ultrarunner) and being a heavy heel striker the eva foam midsoles break down. Not with these. The 992s have a nice, heavy duty polyeurethane heel. I'm wearing the outsole out, but the heel is still holding up. The only drawback is these are a bit heavy, but you know going in in that this is not a racing flat. These are being discontinued, but the 993 is coming out soon.

These are terrible shoes! I run ,30mi/wk. I've used new balance shoes for years. The 991s were great. I have been running on NB for about 15 years, and I hate to change. My biggest problem with these shoes was breaking them in. I have a bunion on my left foot and the way they cut the shoe rubbed against it to the point I had an ulcer. I ended up having to remove the stitches and cutting out the leather to relieve the pressure. About a month later, I ran a near PR in the same shoes. I might try lighter shoes for a change.

Male, 56 yr, 5'6", 190 lb, 29" inseam. Big belly, muscle imbalance from decades of cycling. Bought BEFORE reading reviews and almost returned without trying. Walked 1/2 mile and they felt awful. Started to run , and they felt great. Maybe they don't work for "normal" gaited runners, but for my deformed stride and weight, I love them. Only gave 4 stars because I don't know about the wear factor yet.

I bought two pairs based on my 20+ yrs experience with NB 998 and 991. These shoes are plain awful! I wore the shoes for three weeks hoping to break them in (I never had to do that with the 998 or 991's). My feet hurt; I got blistering on my heels and developed some discomfort in both my inner and outer ankles. I returned the 2nd pair and have been searching for 991's since Dec 07. I also note that these shoes are now being made in China and not in the USA and their last seems to be quite different. NB needs to return to making them in the USA and do a better job of making them. As a long time user of NB shoes--running, walking. & tennis I am extremely disappointed in the 998 product! They are heavy and lack comfort.

Great shoe. Much better than the Asics Kayano 13 that I had before these. I run about 20 miles or so for about the past 2 months and these have held up great so far. Very little heel wear and great support for my low arches. My only complaint is that the shoe does not breath very well and this causes some serious odor after a long run. Great shoe and I plan on making these my designated model until NB stops producing them...

Bring back the 991s! I could go out and run 20 miles in those things without ever breaking them in. As for the 992s, continuous calf pain. With 2" of heel "cushion", I feel like I'm constantly running around on my toes. This is a heavy shoe as well. Taking them back.

Disappointed. I trained and ran 2-3 marathons in 991's without a problem. I never considered buying another shoe. Last marathon I had 2 pairs of 992's that I trained and raced in and I developed heel problems. I fished out one of my pairs of 991's that had a few miles left and problem has improved. I'm looking for another favorite shoe.

I've worn every update to this line of New Balance's shoe since the 990--I'm a bigger guy (6'2", ~200 lbs) and have a very narrow, long foot with no arch (wear orthotics), and this is the ONLY shoe I can wear for extended periods of time without pain. I had been pleasantly surprised by how much more comfortable the 991 was, and was expecting much of the same with the 992. I was sorely disappointed on my first run with the shoes. I developed significant knee pain after only a mile or so in one knee, then the other after another mile, followed by ankle pain as well. The shoes were clunky, had an unnatural heel strike and stride, and just didn't fit well either. I tried running with them once more and quit after three blocks. These are an absolute waste of money. I immediately went out and bought 4 pairs of the 991, hoping to weather this storm while NB regroups and fixes what was a great line of shoes with the 993 (or just a return to the 991).

Only gave 4 stars because I don't know about the wear factor yet.

Having run, cross-trained, and walked in 991s for a number of years (I had four pairs), I was expecting the 992 to be at least as good as its predecessor. Boy, was I wrong. Although the 991s allowed me to train and walk with minimal pain (I've had three knee surgeries), even after breaking in the 992s I can't walk in them due to extreme pain. What a colossal waste of money. Luckily, I still have one pair of 991s left. But when that pair wears out, I've got a problem. Please bring back the 991s.

This is well cushioned, stable shoe that provides good protection. The heel can wear more than most. Even with the wear, the show still works well. Why doesn't doesn't NB simply fix the heel-wear problem?

Very unsatisfactory shoe for me. Previously I had been running with the 218 models which was a great shoe. This one rubs the top of my toes with a rough spot that left the top of my toes sore. The feel is very clunky as well. Would recommend you select another shoe.

These shoes are nothing like the 991s. The sizing runs very wide in both the forefoot and the heel. While there is some additional cushioning, it feels like one is running in "clown shoes" given how large and bulky the shoes are. As a longtime fan of the 991s, I am extremely disappointed.

Wears out very quickly. After 10 months have HOLES in soles of both feet, almost an inch off parts of heel, and holes in toes of both uppers. I only run 5mi every 2 or 3 days, weight 150. Previous models 990, 587, etc. were much more durable. New Balance is taking the "built-in obsolescence" route - shame

I am a heavy runner (220lbs+). I have been using the 900 series New Balance for more than a decade. All previous models ranged from great (998) to acceptable (991). This 992 is terrible. I tried to ignore the obvious for better than 6 months. When I realized that I was only wearing the shoes as a walk about I took stock and here is what I found; Heavy, like a brick. Too high, felt jacked up. Collar and soles wears too fast; I realized this after I added up the actual miles I had ran in the shoes and compared it with the condition, terrible. I could easily put four times the miles on any of the previous 900 series shoes. These are just not acceptable. I took my pair and actually sat them on the front reception desk of the corporate headquarters in Boston with a laundry list. Please do not listen to the normally helpful and honest staff of Roadrunner Sports; they are still trying to sell this shoe (actually in their defense they are trying to hold on to the past like I was).

Trained and ran with 991s and 999s for years with great success and comfort(6'5 225 lbs frame, 12E). I am most under-whelmed by the new 992s. They are not sized like the old 991s, and the break-in period was far worse than any other NB pair I've owned (over a dozen styles: 999, 992, 991, 591, 1050). Been using the 992 for 150+ miles and they are "OK", but certainly not to the expectation I have come to expect with NB, particularly the 991. Have not noticed the heel wear mentioned in prior reviews, but I am an under-pronator and notice occassional ankle soreness. Would not recommend this shoe.

DON'T BUY! NB really destroyed the 900 series reputation. Better off strapping two bricks to your feet. Don't think these are an upgrade to 991s, these 992 are trash. I'm out $100+ for flowerpot planters.

Can't believe a NB shoe that cost $100+ could be this bad. I'm heavy (215 lb) and have relied on this series of shoes for years but I won't go back to the 99x shoes until they change, the 991's were a great shoe.

This perhaps the worse walking/running shoe that I have ever purchased. I'm 6'6" 205lbs with a low to medium arch. Product description lured me in. What I found - heavy and stiff with an arch support that is about 1/2" too close to my heel. Heel support is WAY too wide. Unusable for anything other than mowing the lawn.

Not nearly as good as the 991. I've owned 991s for many years and loved them, been running with these 992s for about 2 months now and I can hardly walk the morning after a run. Feet cramp and ache something fierce. NEVER had any of that running with 991s over the past 7-8 years. I just can't run in these any longer, looking for new shoes now. I pulled out an old worn pair of 991s this morning and ran, I feel much better.

I've ran in the 991 for many years and they felt great on my feet. I bought the 992s and what I surprise I had when I tried them on and they felt horrible. I've tried running in them and they don't fit my feet at all the same way, they are uncomfortable and my feet cramp. I never had this in the 991s. Please bring back the 991s. I will never buy a pair of 992s again and am now looking to switch to Asics.

I tried these and returned them. They say stability+. Thats bull. The problem with these shoes is that your foot is on top of the midsole, but a true stability/motion control shoe the midsole should come up on the sides of the upper and hold your foot in place. These felt like walking on top of bricks.

I have run in the 99x series of NB for over 10 years - perfect, no pain, lots of marathons.. imagine my suprise after 2 sets of shoes year (with no problems) to get a 992 that crippled me. And yes I did wear them in. Have worn them daily for 10 days.. all day before running a step.. now four weeks in and a 12 km run is super painful yet I can put my old 991's (5 days to break in) and run 30K without pain. 992s are awful.

This shoe is consistently advertised as good for heavy runners with medium to low arches... I strenuously object! This is a shoe for flat footed runners. I've got medium arches and normal width feet, 6'3", 225. I had to get two different sets of orthotics to make these bearable for 200 miles of running. However, they've got great cushioning and are probably perfect for a flat-foot!

It is amazing to me how many commentors describe this shoe as "inferior" to the last one after running in the shoe for only a few weeks or even days. One to keep in mind is that your new shoes don't conform to your feet until you have run in them for a while. Even then, the avg. runner who owned the 991's are used to the feeling of an expired insole, so they automatically think that that is how 992's should feel. WRONG! The insole should be firm and rigid. Then over time, it will conform to your foot shape. I am a seasoned runner, and I live by the New Balance Brand. In my opinion, New Balance 992's are lighter, more supportive, and more responsive than over. I fully support this running shoe for the serious runner looking to put in long miles ahead!

Not the seasoned runner by any means, I have gone from Nike to Adidas, New Balance to Saucony. I am about 180lbs and run around 20 miles a week. I will do a half-marathon every once in a awhile. I run to stay healthy. I bought the 992s after using this site trying to get a good pair of shoes to take care of my legs. Terrible. Shin-splints after the first 2-runs. Blisters on the bottom of both my feet. Knee pains. Shoe looks great and walking around in them feels great, but as soon as I break 3-4 miles in one run, I start hating life. Time to move on to Brooks or some other NB shoe, but stay away from this one.

A much softer shoe than the 991. I like the feel aand cushioning that the 992 offers. It is a nice update to a good shoe. I recommend it for comfort. It does not dry well though. But then again, perfection is in the eyes of the beholder.

I was a happy 991 user. Like others I had to switch to 992. I can't run much anymore, but work out on cardio equipment daily. The heels are shot after minimal use. The odor is overpowering. Hopefully the engineer of the 992 is not involved with slowing global warming. My foot ia an A width. Unfortunately NB only makes real narrow shoes.

I was a lifetime user of the 991. Whomever designed this 992 could have never run in the 991. I have never had an injury running in the 991 for more than a decade. Finally ran out of 991's and had to buy this shoe. It's awfull. New Balance should be ashamed of themselves. My knees hurt constantly, feels like I'm running in cement boots. The heel is wearing out after a few runs. My left foot will not stay awake. 991 Runners. Do not buy this shoe !!!!. I am now shopping for another shoe. Sad since the 991 was so perfect. New Balance you have lost a 3 pair per year customer.

Was very happy with the 991s, so I went for the new 992s. Aparently there were some support changes in the design because the 992s cause the balls of my feet to swell up and throb. Not very happy with them at all.

For me too, the edge of the heel wore down deeply and quickly. Because the rest of the shoe remained in good shape, I kept using it with no noticeable problem. It is roomy, comfortable and stable for my 4E feet. One other possible con: after getting wet, the shoes acquired a strong odor that wouldn't wash out. Not sure it's attributable to the model.

I must concur with the other writers on this post. I have worn 991 and 998 for many, many years. The 992s are just not durable enough. Very comfortable, but the heals wore out so quickly. I may just have to switch to Brooks (if they are available in a 2E). Very, very disappointed in New Balance.

992 - terrible! I've run in 991 since they came out. 15+ marathons - they were great. This shoe stinks. No durability. I went through the heel in 75 miles. Wrote New Balance and got a form letter back. I've swithced to Brooks. Too bad I really like the New Balance company. But they did seem to be interested in my business.
