Comments about Mens New Balance 1224 Running Shoe:

Not impressed. This shoe is very comfortable when you put in on which is somewhat misleading as to how it will perform. I ran in these shoes for three weeks. Although the cushioning is very good, it feels like it is stacked in the heel almost like wedges. The flow of the shoe from heel to toe feels disconnected. I'm a moderate pronator and the motion control is very good. I will not buy these shoes again.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1224 Running Shoe:

I brought these shoes in April 2009. I ran the Rite Aid Marathon in May 2009 and the Tow Path Marathon in October in these shoes. I have since retired this pair of shoes. I liked them a lot, they did wear pretty quick i must say. I have trained in a pair of 1011 for one year and they still haven't wore to the point of the 1224's. None the less the 1224's were a vey good shoe for me. I since brought a pair of 1225 for training. I also retired the 1011's from training. I will probably buy of 769 for my rotating pair of trainng shoes and 769rc for my next race. I highly recommend the 1224

Comments about Mens New Balance 1224 Running Shoe:

This is not the best NB shoe I have ran in but they are pretty good. I do most of my runs on payment and these shoes do a good job in terms of cushioning. The support is adequate (mild overpronater) so overall I am pleased with the balance of support and cushioning offered by this shoe. The shoes run a bit sloppy but it's fine for a training shoe. No pain in knees, which has been a problem in the past with other shoes that are too firm or lack of cushioning for pavement.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1224 Running Shoe:

Love the shoe but they wear through the inner of the heel cup and arches after only 21 hours of running. Did not even last me a month. Non commital response from New Balance regarding the problem, I hope that I can get my money back from the store here in Turkey. I think the problem lies with the blue innersoles which are quite abrasive, they would be much better with the older foam type inner soles.

By Jay

Comments about Mens New Balance 1224 Running Shoe:

Went for a 14-mile run on the first day I had these. I was a bit worried about running that distance first time out as I had previously had the 1223's a year ago and the toe box was too narrow for me. I have 2E feet and bunions, so I have a very wide forefoot and heard the 1224's were wider in the toe box (similar to the old 858's that I loved. I also wear my shoes very loosely laced, so now I have two runs under my belt with the 1224's and so far so good. Thinking about buying my backup pair since they're now under $100/pair as of May 6th, 2009!

Comments about Mens New Balance 1224 Running Shoe:

Buyer beware, probably some of the harshest most uncomfortable shoes I've ever purchased and yes I am a New Balance fan. I am all about a firm shoe but these things put unbelievable pain at the arch and ball of my foot. I even went so far as purchasing New Balance support insoles hoping this would fix the problem. Nope, more foot pain. Thanks New Balance for helping to empty my pocket of over $100+.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1224 Running Shoe:

I have been worn 1220's for 7 years and loved 1220, 1221, 1222, and 1223. I have purchased two pairs of 1224s and began to suffer from painful heel problems until I switched to Nike Equalons...my heel problems have subsided. I have worn NBs for over 20 years and want to give the 1225s a try, but may stick with the Nikes until they stop making this model. I am 5'11 and 180.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1224 Running Shoe:

Just ran 7.5 miles in a brand new pair of 1224's. I had been looking for a shoe with more forefoot cushion and these shoes felt great in that department. I have run in a stability shoe for a long time, but my legs just don't take the pounding like they used to. These were really nice.

By Bob Hardin - Nashville, TN

from Undisclosed

Comments about Mens New Balance 1224 Running Shoe:

I have been a loyal NB guy for several years. The only shoe I did not like was the 1221...until now. The 1224 is the worst NB shoe I have ever worn. I was angry that I paid $140 for a brand/model that I thought I could count on. I wanted to throw these shoes in the trash can. The fit is terrible - too much room in the toebox AND in the heal. The point of the second eyelet for the shoestrings kill my right foot. After I figured out what was causing the pain, I wound up just skipping this eyelet with the shoestrings. I'll try to tolerate them for a while, but am considering ditching them and switching to Asics. I am coming to the conclusion that NB is simply experimenting with this series of shoes for marketing purposes instead of keeping loyal runners in mind.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1224 Running Shoe:

Good stability shoe. I'm 5'10", 170 lbs, and a loyal NB customer, but first-time 12XX shoe user. The toe box seemed a bit too roomy at first, but I tightened up the laces in front, and as my runs got longer, I appreciated the extra room. It could use a bit more forefoot cushioning, (but that may just be my running style and personal preference). Overall, a fine shoe on the long runs.

By Greg

from Undisclosed

Comments about Mens New Balance 1224 Running Shoe:

My $0.02. Beware, the 1224 is nothing like the 1223's. It's lighter because, (1) Less cushioning in the mid-sole, (2) The liner and tongue are thinner, (3) The sides are shorter making the "throat" area wider- you can actually feel the laces through the tongue. The sole now has a "cleat" design instead of smooth segments like the 1223- when walking on hard surfaces, you can feel these "cleats". Bottom line, they feel like bricks. Maybe if you're a lighter runner than me ( 5'-10", 170 lb), the 1224 could be fine; but, if you're heavier, take advantage of RR's 60 day trial. Bought 3 additional pair of 1223's- when they wear out, it'll be a new ballgame......Why can't NB leave a good thing alone!

Comments about Mens New Balance 1224 Running Shoe:

This is one of the most comfortable stability shoes I run in. Not too soft, not to hard, good fit in the heel, wide toe-box. My other pairs are Adidas Adistar Control 5 and Brooks Trance 8. 5'6", 163 lbs., avg. 25 mi./week. I never ran in NB 1223 so have no comparison, but I don't think this is meant to be a cushioning shoe.

Not a good shoe at all. I loved the 1223s so I decided to give these a try. After several 6 - 8 mile runs, I started noticing soreness in the knees. Something that never happened with the 1223s. I recently purchased a pair of 1063s and presto, the soreness went away.

Great shoe. My first pair of NB's so no history to compare against (who doesn't love their favorite old model!). Anyway, not so squishy as to promote injury, but flex's just right and absorbs just right. Had only run with them on mid-length runs (6-10), but after a 24-miler yesterday, I'm ordering a couple more pairs. 5'6", 155, slow (10:00 avg pace), 20-30 mi/wk avg.

Love the arch support, even after logging 300+ miles. Trashed my Nike's after having foot/fit issues. New Balance did their homework on this one.

Very comfortable. Much more cushioning than the 858's I was wearing. Great shoes.

I have been running in 1223s for a year; 10-15 miles per week. I was looking for something a little softer after the 1223s wore out. The 1224s feel firmer and don't cushion as much as the 1223. They seem to flex less than the 1223's too. I ran in them for about 2 miles and didn't like how they felt. Switched to the 1063s I bought (always have a Plan B) and they ran much better with more cushion and more flex. Felt lighter and softer.

I love NB for catering to my wide feet, but the 1224's always seemed to hurt the tops of my feet during and after long runs. I found myself keeping the laces really lose. With a little cushioning under the tongue it would be a great shoe.

Nothing compared to the 1223's. The fit was hard and not near as comfortable as the 1223's. Also, after running 6 miles I developed a blister.

I am a big guy (6ft 270lbs) and I am in the Military so I have to run....I have always used the 1222...I loved them so much I bought 4 pairs before they discontinued them. I just bought the 1224 and there is no cushion...I am getting shin splints bad....I wrote New Balance and I am switching for the 993!

After the 1223 was discontinued I was dreading the update, but this is a decent shoe. I liked the the cushioning of the 1223 more, but this is definitely adequate in that regard. I will be buying this shoe again after I run out of my 1223's.

I had to send these back. Previously the 991 and 1222 worked well for me. But just as with the 992 replacement for the 991, the 1224 is much different than the 1222. As a previous review said, not enough cushioning in the forefoot for me. I'm at 185 lbs. Calves and hamstrings killing me, never happened before with the 991s or 1222s. They feel good when you walk with them with the heel cushioning, but just hurt when running. Giving Asics a try now, tired of NB ruining a good thing.

Awesome shoe. Very supportive, lightweight and good cushioning underfoot. Doesn't feel clunky in the heel like some other high end stability shoes.

Ran a half mile before I had to turn around and head home and put my old pair of shoes on. Felt very stiff under forefoot and just killed my shins. Too cushy in the heel, not enough in forefoot. Also, not as stable as I would like. I couldn't take it. After I changed out of them, I ran another 11 pain free. These are going back. I am a bigger 5'11" 225lbs and run about 35 miles per week. I had high hopes for these but they just weren't for me.

Good cushioning. Sizing should be true to size. Only issue was that I got a cramp in my arch. I just replaced the insoles and all was well.

I'm 5'6", 208lbs. Yes, I know not quite the typical running type but I have 1 marathon under my belt. I've run 75+ miles on this shoe and love it. I use to run on Kayano-14 but these are far superior. Great heal cushioning. Ran 13 miles last weekend and felt very little of the sidewalk below me. I was having lower back pain the last few months but with these shoes, the pain is gone. Not sure if it's the shoe or the 600mg of ibuprofen. Anyways, still love the shoe. Pricey but worth it.

After trying every other stability +, I finally found the right shoe. Good balance of cushioning that is just right for a big guy (220) and stability for moderate overpronation. Not too soft and not too firm. Very smooth transition. The fit is secure in the midfoot without putting too much pressure on one area. Good footbed for the low arches. Materials and construction are excellent. Seamless liner gives a nice unobtrusive feel inside. And least importantly, they look really cool.

Better fit, heel cush is less mushy, midfoot fit is secure and very comfortable. Smooth comfortable ride which I find better than the kayano plus it's lighter, great shoe!

I've worn the NB 1222 (pretty good), the 1223 (great). But I'd just did a 10K run in my 1224 and they're AWESOME. I have 3-pairs of he 1223 I liked them so much, and was sceptical of the new 1224. It has an excellent fit, good stability and isn't quite as "mushy" feeling as the 1223. It also has a slightly smaller toe box and better fit (at least for me) than he 1223 did. By the way, Superfeet blue insoles are a great addition to the 1224 (or 1223). I'll update this reveiew again after about 50-60 miles. I'm 6'3" and 200 lbs doing 25+ miles aweek. WELL DONE NEW BALANCE!!!!!!
