Comments about Mens New Balance 1225 Running Shoe:

Purchased roughly 2 months ago as new rotation for ongoing marathon training. I generally run around 40 miles per week, so I need a shoe that can hold up to a beating. Used the Nike Structure Triax 12 and the Asics 3010 with good success. Heard good things about the NB 1225, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Pros: Looked good during the fitting, cushions well, and appeared to correct my faulty biomechanics. Good initial impact (soft, but not too soft), good transition to forefoot, soft and structured through the push off.

Cons: The sole appears to wear well - it's only been 2 months, but I don't see much deterioration (I'm fairly easy on the rubber). I can't say as much for the uppers. I lace-lock, so the point at which the laces interlock is beginning to substantially wear...significantly more than any other shoe I've used. It also doesn't provide the support I thought it would give. Not sure if it's a result of my own mechanics or the shoe - but I've never had issues with my IT bands, yet I do with this shoe...badly.

I would certainly recommend that people with overpronation take a look, it's a very soft and somewhat durable shoe, but make sure that you keep an eye on your body. It will tell you whether or not this shoe is for you.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1225 Running Shoe:

235 LBS/ 6'2"...LOW ARCH/ STANDARD RUNNER/14 MILES-WEEK...I love this shoe, very stable, light, fits like a glove. Tried many others in the past and nothing comes close. Well worth the investment... Had problems with asics being too stiff causing mild shin aches, then tried a Brooks shoe that was causing leg-foot pain after 3-4 miles. I opened the 1225's and ran 6 miles out of the box! (for me that's far)

Comments about Mens New Balance 1225 Running Shoe:

I'm 5'8" and weigh 215 lbs. I haven't liked this model since the 1220, so I was a little apprehensive. After trying them on, they didn't feel as well cushioned as my previous Mizuno Wave Nirvana 4 or Nike Air Equalon 2. After a short 2 mile run (after a three month running layoff), I absolutely love this shoe. It is relatively lightweight and provides excellent cushioning. I am prone to shin splints after a period of inactivity, but that was not an issue with this shoe. Highly recommended!

I have run two half marathons and many other road races short and long. I have found that New Balance shoes wear very well and are comfortable for big runners. The key I have found is to use good insert/insoles along with shoes. I will continue to wear New Balance and recommend them to all my friends.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1225 Running Shoe:

5'10" 190lbs average arches. Just retired my beloved 1224's because the cushioning was beaten down due to miles and miles of my former 205 lbs thumping away at them. Got the new shoes late last week and have logged 32 miles on them so far. My 4,4, and 8 mile runs on the treadmill were great and my 16 mile long run on uneven, country roads was good too. Maybe it's the placebo effect of the new shoes or week 12 of marathon training, but I had my best times in these shoes on the treadmill. I have also run in the Asics Gel Kayano 13 through 15 and found those to be pretty good. Bought these in 2E width to avoid the overlapping toes. Only negative was that on my 16 mile, it seemed like the inside of my right heel felt like it was rubbing slightly. No blisters. Will monitor.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1225 Running Shoe:

I'm 5'7'' 170 lbs. Mild overpronater, run 25 miles week. I have been trying out several shoes to find "the one" I've run in Saucony Pro Grid Guide 2, Etonic Kendari SC, Ascics. Overall these are the most comfortable from a ground striking standpoint. Excellent blend of stability and cushioning for a slightly heavier runner like me. My only complaint is they are maybe a little too roomy even in my normal size so DO NOT ORDER A SIZE UP! I feel like the collar and forefoot are a little wide even in the normal width. My foot moves a little and leads to tender spots/blisters which i don't get in any of the other shoes. If I try to lace up tight it is uncomfortable also. If it wasn't for this I would buy 10 pairs and give 5 stars.

Best shoe yet in the 1200 Series. My only complaint is that the arch in the shoe breaks down at about 300 miles, while I would expect it to last to about 500 miles. I'm on my 4th pair, even given this drawback, because I can't find a better performing shoe.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1225 Running Shoe:

I've worn NB shoes since my Dad first took me running almost 30 years ago. Tried a few other brands along the way as a second pair of trainers, but always came back to NB for their fit, comfort, style, and durability. I tend to average around 25+ miles a week (depends on what I'm training for). Unfortunately over the past year I've purchased a pair of 1224s and a pair of 1225s both of which I've had the same problem with within the first 2 months. The lower, inside web "eyelet" of the NLOCK lacing system has pulled out of one or both of the shoes, rendering the shoe useless as you can no longer lace it properly. Never had that problem with any of the other NB NLOCK shoes I've owned (3 pairs of 1223s and the 769's I use now as a light trainer for speedwork). While the New Balance customer service was kind and responsive, replacing my 1224s with a new pair of 1225s, that pair fell apart as well. Sending my second pair of 1225s back to Road Runner Sports and exchanging for 1012s as I'm an overpronator and could use the extra stability/motion control anyways. Really hoping I don't experience the same quality deficiencies or may have to break the long relationship I've had with NB and go looking for a new brand.

                Service and delivery comments:

Only great things to say about Road Runner Sports service. Shoes delivered a day or two early. Also, today when I called about returning my broken shoes the technician I spoke with on the phone was very polite, professional, and understanding of my situation. She e-mailed me a new shipping label so I could return the defective shoes on their dime (I'd misplaced the return label that came with the shoes originally). I run 5-6 days a week. 40 miles a week average. 2-4 marathons a year. I've been getting about 400 miles per pair, before I begin to feel my legs getting tired. They don't look worn out at this point, but I feel it in my legs. They're retired to street shoes, or donated at this point. I'm 180 lbs. Almost all running is done on asphalt or pavement, although I've worn them for several trail marathons and they've performed great. No problem with traction on the trails. They seem to dry fast.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1225 Running Shoe:

I love New Balance shoes and thought the 1225 would be a logical choice since at the time I was weighing 214 and the shoe is designed for larger frames and durability. After only logging 190 miles the tread on the right heel wore all the way down to the cushioning. I feel I should have gotten 100 more miles out of them, but I was on the heavy side. Now, I am going to try the 993 instead of the 1226. Overall, I do think they are a great shoe and would recommend them.

I run between 15 and 20 miles a week and love this shoe. It is very supportive, but is still really light. I was also really impressed by the durability of the shoe. I was able to log over 520 miles on my first pair of 1225's and am now rotating between a second and third pair. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1225 Running Shoe:

Out of the box this shoe was bit awkward. Feeling a little long in size, a bit stiff in the arch, and over-controling my heal to toe landing and retraction so that my ankle was left sore. I stayed on course with this shoe and after 3-6 runs and 20-30 miles coverd, it is now as good a running shoe as any I have put on my feet.

I am 220 lbs (wear a 4E width) and have worn the Brooks Beast for ages. I looked more closely at my arch and realized that I'm not really flat footed but do actually have a bit of an arch. I switched away from the Motion Control+ Beast to the NB1225 Stability+ and oh what a wonderful change. If you wear the Beast try this out as well. So comfy. My foot strike is crisper and small pains that I had in my primary big toe joint are gone.

The NE 1225 has great cushioning and great stability control. I have been able to comfortably increase my weekly mileage since I began running in these shoes. I'll be looking for a bargain on another pair to keep in the closet when this pair wears out.

For heavier runners, it's hard to find shoes that offer good support unless the she feels like a wooden box. I've run in 991 which is a decent option, but even so, never felt enough cushion. This shoe is the solution. I gave it 4 instead of 5 because I would like for it to have just slightly more backbone. Currently I can't find a shoe that offers the structure of 991 yet with the soft ride of this shoe. But between the two shoes, I pick this one. I'm on my 2nd pair after wearing out the last version, I forgot the model number.

Just pulled these shoes out of the box and did a 3 mile 45 pound pack test for fire training. Very comfortable and no blisters. I have worn Nike and New Balance for years but the Nike's are now history. Quality shoe and unmatched comfort!

Due to some physical limitations, I can no longer run but when I did, this shoe delivered the most important thing my podiatrist told me I needed: comfortable width. The only bad thing I found was the cushioning wore down fast, not just those that came with the shoe. Now I use the shoe for walking and it is great. It is very comfortable and durable.

Have also made the change from 769 to 1225 and don't regret it at all. 1225 is a great shoes especially as I wear orthotics. The 4E width has allowed my toes to grip properly and now my heel doesn't chew out the back of the shoe. I ordered them exact size, not one size up as they fit fine. Interesting to note that Footlocker says to order exact size so like another reviewer I am also not sure why Roadrunner says to order the next size up. Am going to buy more of this shoe.

i give these shoes 5 stars but the suggestion to get them one full size up gets 3 stars. i dont know why this is suggested because my shoes are 1 size up and thats exactly how they feel! to much space for me and cant imagine why this shoe needs it. i would've returned them but i am currently deployed in Iraq and its more of a hassle just trying to do that so i'm just dealing with them. i know after running for awhile your feet swell but i cant imagine a full size up. well to each his one and in closing again great shoes i just wish they fit properly.

This is the MOST comfortable shoe I have ever worn. I am an overpronator and heavier runner so need the extra stablilty. I am just ticked that I missed the VIP sale when it was on sale for $89.99!!!! This shoe is worth every penny, my feet can feel the soft cushioning on every run. I am training for the Boston marathon so need a shoe that can take the mileage and still provide the comfort I need! A+++++

This shoe is incredible!! I've been running in them for almost a year and I have never been able to get that type of mileage from other brands. I've been running competively since 1978 and wore Nikes uptill a year ago as I was upset with their quality and durability. This one however won me over. I will definitely purchase this shoe again!!!

5 months later they still are PERFECT!! I recently tried a pair of Asics Kayano 15 and really liked them. Then after several months of running, something was just missing. I switched back to the 1225 and there is no comparison. I really like this shoe. Its soooo comfortable

So far so good with these shoes. I started running about 6 months ago and these shoes along with superfeet (green) insoles have been a great combo for me. I needed a good stability shoe and with good amount of cushion which the 1225's have provided me. Highly recommend these shoes!

The 1225 works great for me. If you are training, get a foot scan to determine the right shoe for your foot & sport.

Its truly amazing how different people can have a different reaction to the same shoe. After reading dozens of reviews and getting some education on the fundamental aspects of running shoes, I have come to the conclusion that the only way to tell if something is going to work for you is to try on, and run in, every pair you can get your hands on until you find one thats comfortable for YOU. In the last two weeks I have tried: Nike Vomero 4, Asics Nimbus 11, Saucony Hurricane 11, and others. Each fit somewhat differently, and all of them had some point of irritation at different places on my feet. You can't know how its going to feel after 10 miles, just by trying them on in the store. But you CAN ELIMINATE candidates based on subtle differences in fit. Also realize that any review that does not tell you the weight of the reviewer, or to a lesser extent, how many miles they run at a time, is not going to be a reliable source of information. A 150 lb person is not going to get the same r

NEW BALANCE HAS NOT MADE A DECENT RUNNING SHOE SINCE THE 1220 .... I ORDERED THE 1225 A SIZE UP AS SUGGESTED. THE SHOE IS TOO LONG AND TOO NARROW.. I GUESS NB WILL NEVER GET IT RIGHT ....

I had been wearing 769 since they were cheaper and also stability. In a weak moment, I tried the 1225 and will not go back. Definitely worth the extra $20 per shoe for comfort and fit.

I tried these shoes on at my local RRS store, and was honestly dissapointed. I narrowed down my purchase to either these or the Brooks trance 9, and the Brooks trance was by far the better shoe. The New balance 1225 fit well, and was lightweight, but just lacked cushioning;especially in the forefoot. This update is definitely a big improvement for New Balance but the build quality was still inferior, especially for the price.

I am in the military and was recently diagnosed with severe shin splints. I have never worn New Balance shoes. I have always worn Nike or Asics. These NB 1225's were on a list of suggested shoes my physical therapist gave me that he got from this site. I have a high arch and overpronate a bit and apparently have been buying the wrong type running shoe all my life. I noticed the difference in these shoes as soon as I put them on. The comfort level is outstanding. These are much lighter than any of my Nike shoes. They seem to be well constructed and I like all of the reflectivity built into the shoe, very visible at night. I have only had these great shoes for a week but can already feel the difference in my knees and shins. I have had no pain whatsoever while running. I run on a treadmill, pavement and a soft surface track and these are great on all. Size is compareable to Nike shoes, the site said to buy one full size up, which is the same size as my Nike shoes, they are a great fit. G

Decided to give NB a try again after moving to lighter training shoes from Mizuno and Asics. Gotta give NB credit. They took enough weight out of this shoe to a smooth trainer without the historic bulk. For a guy with narrow feet like me this is nice discovery. Third run this AM and like them more and more. Keep working on the weight please NB.

The best since the 1220. Great cushion, a very smooth ride that is well balanced. The new last has more room at the end of the toe box than previous versions and is a bit wider than the 769. Less weight and better cushion with a smoother ride than the kayanos.

What's up with New Balance?? Suddenly everyone has narrow feet so a "medium" or "D" is like a "B+" or something. The 1225 is now like the 1063; both are way too narrow, much like the Brooks. It's really too bad because the new 1225 looks great, seems to have a lot of functional cushioning in the right spots, and the weight is perfect unlike the 1224 which was (is) a disaster. The 1225 could have been a excellent upgrade to the 1223 (great shoe) if NB had not messed with the width!! Been a dedicated NB fan for years, but now switching to Asics Nimbus 11. BTW, pick & choose Asics carefully because even the great Kayano 15 has gone the narrow route. If you're listening New Balance & Asics, stop playing with the widths!!

Nice shoe...needless to say I was impressed of the support and cushioning for a big guy like me. I hated running in those clunkers, like the Brooks Beasts. This shoe feels sporty and does the job.
