Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: I use my NB 2002 shoes for distance running (up to Marathon distance). I have a sturdier build than most runners (185 lbs), and these shoes provide the support and durability I need. The nuebuck leather is very nice, and they look really sharp even after extended wear. The insoles are a big improvement over the quality of the NB 993s, but I replace them anyway as soon as I take the shoes out of the box. Obviously, they are expensive, but I believe they are worth it.

Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: These are great I've bought the 2000, 2001, and now these 2002 models. I must say, these are the best ones yet. Great arch support that helps correct any knee issues I have.

Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: This is the second review I have written on this shoe, but I feel obligated to provide an update. I wrote my first review of this shoe after logging about 100 miles, and I was initially very satisfied. I run 60 miles per week, but alternate between NB993s, Asics Cascadia 5s, and this shoe. After about 220 miles in these shoes and one marathon, I have noticed a significant wear on the outside heel...to the point where I have worn through the black outer layer of rubber, and am now wearing into the softer gray mid-layer of rubber. I realize that I am partly at fault due to my running form. I truly love the feel and the look of these shoes, but to have these durability issues after less than 300 miles is a disappointment, especially when you factor in what they cost. I believe that if you are running on smooth trails or anything other than pavement, the heel wear would not be an issue. However, for running on pavement, the NB993s are far more durable. I put the same mileage on my NB993s on the same surfaces and don't have nearly the wear. Again, the NB2002 is a GREAT SHOE, but if you are a heel-striker and you run on pavement, the NB993 is the way to go.

Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: If you have arthritis or other foot problems, you need both cushioning and support, and you have both with this shoe. I've used the top-of-the-line NB shoe for many years. Although I've been tempted by other brands and styles from time to time, I always come back to this one and wonder why I left.

Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: That's right! Another reason to bust thru that lousy credit rating of yours and go into debt to get these shoes...you know, if they made them in some other colors (Ahem! Which commmittee of idiots decreed that darek grey was the color du jour, anyway?) they would have a better seller. If the price alone doesn't put you off, consider how snappy your feet will look while mowing the lawn in these puppies!

Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: I tweaked my anterior talofibular ligament 10 years ago and have been forced to run wearing an ASO brace (the kind you see basketball players wear on ankles) since then. This shoe has allowed a well nourished runner like myself (5"11, 220 lbs) to run without a brace. Even after 6 miles I notice no pain in my ankle. Yes they are expensive, but well worth it for me. Here's to my first half marathon in over 10 years. I used to run 40-50 miles a week before the injury--life is good again :)

Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: I've worn the NB 2002 running shoes for about 100 miles now. I enjoy the plush ride that it gives on days when I would like that type of comfort. I rotate between the minimalist type running shoes.

Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: Sort of throwback to the late 70's when New Balance practicaly invented the expensive shoe category? Java Master was right, these are GREAT shoes if you need inserts or orthotics, or if your dogs are just getting sensitive and need some extra lovin' comfort. Durable uppers, midsoles seem about average in durability for NB.The best shoe for aspiring Venture Capitalists to wear to work on those all important casual days when Tommy Bahama doesn't do it for you.

Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: Avid NB 993 user with great results! Wanted something firm and stable without compromising the needed cushioning offered in many softer kicks. The NB 2002 delivers. Moving to the 2002 had a price, however, the energy transfer, cushioning, and overwhelming ease at which my feet now glide across the pavement is unmatched.

Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: This is the top of the line running shoe from New Balance. I classify this shoe as a walker and use it as a cross trainer, treadmill workouts and also to work. It is a stable but neutral shoe. Average cushioning room to add your own orthotic. The shoe has suede leather and impeccable mesh on the upper. For a shoe at this price they should have more technology in the cushioning of the shoe. I would rank the Brooks Trance 10 or the Asics Gel Kayano 17 as better pure running shoes. This is doubly true if your well over 200 plus pounds. I weigh about 240. At this price you do not want to be running and wearing out this shoe. It is a great fashion shoe and would be even better with more of a choice of colors. I am satisfied for what I use it for. Mostly a fashion statement shoe.

Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: I run 15-25 miles weekly. However, I have had two knee surgerees and relatively unstable ankles. I am 6'1", 175 lbs, and 54 years of age. I was put off by the price. But, I really needed a shoe that will let me run and take care of the rest! This is it. I miss the road feel of a lighter, thinner shoe. But, my joints and ligaments are REALLY happy. Price is high, but if I add the cost of all the shoes in the basement that I had to stop using, it really is a no-brainer.

Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: For years I have been buying both running and walking shoes, but always end up with pain along the outside edge of my right foot (I'm heavy, under-pronate and have a high arch). Just last week, I walked into the New Balance store wearing a brand new pair of 993's, and was still in pain while researching the idea of purchasing the new 2002 model running shoes. Yesterday, I received my new shoes from [...] and put them on, and went walking. NO PAIN! The cushioning is like a pillow under my feet! The fit is wonderful and the craftsmanship is superior (as you would expect for a [$] pair of running shoes), and the shoe looks like a work of art. In my case, the money I save by not needing to purchase custom made orthotics (which was my next step), pays for the price of the shoes. Money well spent for my situation. I am getting ready to purchase a second pair so I can rotate them daily. If your in the market for a neutral cushioned running shoe, this model might be worth considering.

Pros
Cons Best Uses Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: these shoes are the rolls royce of the industry ... they are quite the ride let me tell you. didn't know new balance could produce such a great shoe. Generally, the only neutral plus shoe worth the money is nike and addidas ... but this shoe is better than the addistar and vomero 5 and 6 -- its pricey, but its worth it, and it also supports usa workers, which is nice for a change.

Comments about Mens New Balance 2002 Running Shoe: 6'5", 235lbs: NB 993 countless times, always worked out well, needed additional cushioning and a shoe that would last like all NBs do... 2002. Solid footprint, good, stable support with a feather-bed like cushioning. Took them out yesterday for day one without inserts, running on clouds, most comfortable run.
