Broke this shoe out for the Uwharrie 20mile trail race - a very hilly and rocky course with several stream crossings. The NB110 had great grip on the trail and drained exceptionally well. The best part of the shoe is the toe box - A Huge Improvement from the 101.

This shoe is absolutely phenomenal. When looking for a shoe which enables forefoot landing and the small differential sought by so many runners currently there is nothing better on the market currently. Add in the relatively cheap cost and it's a no-brainer purchase.

The traction on these shoes is amazing, along with the light weight which enables incredibly light foot placement and agility on very technical trails. I've ran in these shoes on trails exclusively since receiving them two weeks ago, and I must say, I forgot they were on my feet at all after the first mile. New Balance definitely hit this niche of the market with these shoes. As Anton Krupicka said, they're perfect right out of the box!

Also, I've completed a few road runs on them, and while not as comfortable as my Stem Footwear/FiveFingers, they're NOT uncomfortable by any means. Running on the road to get to the trails should be absolutely doable (unlike my MT10's which are unbearable on the road after a few miles). GET THESE SHOES!

I run trails exclusively, and I've put this shoe through just about everything. from a 100km in low alpine, rainy conditions to short hill climbs in hot desert climates over sharp, volcanic boulders; this shoe holds up.

here are some things that I would say about it:

comparisons to similar shoes:

i wore the 101s before this, the 876s before that, VFFs in between, as well as small stints with different Minimus models. This shoe is the best. It seems that the "downside" from most minimalists is the 4mm heel lift. After wearing the Minimus and VFFs over long runs, I think this shoe clearly outperforms these zero drop shoes for the better tread, valuable rock plate over the ball and heel, and greater breathability and draining. It's also going to last a good 50-75 miles longer.

Fit:

The shoe fits a little small. This is mainly in the toe box. I have narrow feet, so this is not a problem. I've tried a half size up, though, and I could have worn the larger size and not compromised much. The shoe feels fine with or without socks. I have never gotten a blister or any rubbing from the underside of the seams when wearing them x/o socks. There is no arch support. They have a more secure heel box than the 101s which helps to keep the shoe locked in.

Speed:

This is a really fast shoe. It's streamlined for precise landings and movements in technical trails. It's lightweight yet protective where it needs to be (see the toe bumper). The tread grips the trail equally well uphill and downhill. The shoe also rolls well over loose gravel--a feature I never considered but have come to enjoy.

Value:

Regardless of price point, this shoe is typically priced well under the Minimus line. Basically, you're paying for the Minimus title and the zero drop: two things that do not, in my mind, warrant the price hike. Buy these shoes if you enjoy a minimalist trail shoe. Buy two pair.

Overall, this shoe has made me a more confident and faster runner. I will buy it again and again. And then I will lament when it is discontinued.

Love these shoes. Plenty of room for the toes great traction awesome to have a rock plate in a minimalist-ish shoe, the only negative I have is sand goes right thru them. But after like 40 miles I like them a lot.

These shoes are awesome. I've been slowly (due to IT band issues) building mileage back up. This week I did an 11 mile run over flat trail with a bit of pavement and then 10 miles on some good trails in Mt. Falcon Park, Colorado. The shoes performed perfectly! They are light weight, fit well, and grip the dirt and rock like crazy. I only have one small complaint. There is a seam on the inside that is right under the ball of my foot at the metatarsal of my big toe. It drove me nuts for the first while. I got some of the super thin Spenco insoles and put those in and that fixed everything. If the seam problem gets fixed, these are definitely 5 star shoes! Also, be aware that the sole underneath the arch is made out of some kind of foam. I've had the shoes for about 6 months and the foam lugs are almost gone, but this hasn't impacted the performance in any way (maybe the lugs are there just for looks?). The rubber tread shows almost no wear at all.

I really like these shoes for trail running. i have been building my mileage back up. right now i'm up to about 30 miles a week and these shoes are performing well so far. a little narrow in the midfoot but they seem to be stretching out a little so i think this problem will take care of itself.

Honestly, I think this is the first shoe I've tried out and have HATED. I'm now sending back my second pair, both the wide and normal width feels like a rock is pushing into the outer part of your forefoot every time you land. Reminds me a bit of the MR10 and of course that is just sitting on my self getting no miles. I'm trying to find a good minimal replacement for the MT101, maybe the Merrell Mix Master will work for me. But I cannot stand the MT110, worst shoes ever.
