Cons Best Uses Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: This is the new update to the 1012 which has been out for a while. Very excited for this as it is has a nice new look and better cushioning! Feels like the 1012, except better! Pros

Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: I got these shoes to help cure my Plantar Faciitis but didn't think they helped that much. I found the insert that comes with the shoes to have inadequate cushioning but I think that's probably true for most atheltic shoes.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: I switched to this shoe after Brooks Beast changed their model in early 2013. I really like the New Balance 1340 motion control shoe! It feels solid, has lots of support, more flexible and easier to run in than the Brooks Beast. I had been running in Brooks Beast for 5+ years.
Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: Why replace a great SL2 shoe with a new one that has an SL1? That is why the shoe feels tight and does not do well with orthotics. Pros

Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: I have a flat foot with the second toe bigger than the first toe (big toe). This shoe fitted perfectly. I liked the Shoe dog exercise done at Road runner store.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: Would have received 5 stars if it weren't for them making it much narrower than previous models. I have stuck with them since the 1011's to the 1012's with no complaints up until now. I put them up against my 1012's and they are clearly narrower than the older models. My feet feel cramped in the 1340's and I am experiencing blistering because of it. Will have to move up a width. Highly suggest ordering one width higher than you would normally.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: I've worn NB motion control running shoes for about the past 15 years. The 1012 was a great model. This new model is a disaster. My instep has been hurting since the second day I've run in them. Classic overpronating issue that this shoe apparently doesn't deal with. The shoe feels too light weight, flimsy, and soft. Does not provide the necessary support that the 1012 provided. And I only weigh 152 lbs! I'll be buying Brooks now in the hopes of finding a shoe for the next 15 years. Too bad NB.
Pros Cons Best Uses Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: This shoe is billed as the successor to the 1011 and 1012. The shoe seems substantially revised to me. The toe box is smaller. The shoe seems lighter but at the cost of the iron, tank-like platform that was the old NB uber motion control shoe. The older shoes were very flat, crazy stable. The new shoe has a much more pronounced ark to the construction, starting with a much more pronounced crash pad. To most people, these may be improvements. To me, it was a new shoe that did not fit as well as or have the attributes that kept me loyal to the model for at least 6 pair. I returned my new 1340's and am now in shoe model limbo.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: I used this with orthotics. Couldn't run at all before bc of my foot pain. Now I can run for an entire hour without pain. Although I only run on a treadmill. Only thing I didnt like about it is the appearance.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: This shoe is not a replacemnt for my 1012. The toe box is not as roomy as the 1012. The shoe is arguably lighter than my 1012 but I'd say the shoe is less well made than my 1012. Service and delivery comments: RR offered their usual excellent service.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: Service was OK and the delivery was quick. Unfortunately the product leaves a lot to be desired. I use these shoes for every day use only because I have a problem with plantar faciaitis in both feet and these were one of the shoes recommended by my podiatrist. The shoe has very poor support in the sole. It feels like you have almost nothing between your feet and the pavement. I substituted green Super Feet insoles and got marginal improvement. They are a little narrow in the toe box as well. The shoe does not look like they're going to last as long as a shoe in this price range should. After very little walking my feet hurt.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: As with most new models there is skepticism but this shoe actually feels better and performs better than the earlier 1012. I would recommend this shoe. I have only put about 60 miles on so far but they want more, I am a 200lb runner so most shoes are not built for my stature.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe: The 1340's are a nice replacement for the 1012's although the toe box seems narrower than the 1012's and predecesser 1011's. The toe box is more like the 1010's. Nice surprise that the shoes I received indicated they were assembled in Lawrence, MA rather than China as indicated on this site. The shoe feels much lighter than its predecessors due to the use of breathable uppers rather than the pleather/leather on its predecessors. Durability may be a concern. Bottoms seem to stick better and are more flexible without giving up support for now.
