Service was OK and the delivery was quick. Unfortunately the product leaves a lot to be desired. I use these shoes for every day use only because I have a problem with plantar faciaitis in both feet and these were one of the shoes recommended by my podiatrist. The shoe has very poor support in the sole. It feels like you have almost nothing between your feet and the pavement. I substituted green Super Feet insoles and got marginal improvement. They are a little narrow in the toe box as well. The shoe does not look like they're going to last as long as a shoe in this price range should. After very little walking my feet hurt.

Nice Replacement for 1012's
The 1340's are a nice replacement for the 1012's although the toe box seems narrower than the 1012's and predecesser 1011's. The toe box is more like the 1010's. Nice surprise that the shoes I received indicated they were assembled in Lawrence, MA rather than China as indicated on this site. The shoe feels much lighter than its predecessors due to the use of breathable uppers rather than the pleather/leather on its predecessors. Durability may be a concern. Bottoms seem to stick better and are more flexible without giving up support for now.
I am skeptical of the overall durability of this shoe but we will see.

Not a replacement for the 1012
This shoe is not a replacemnt for my 1012. The toe box is not as roomy as the 1012. The shoe is arguably lighter than my 1012 but I'd say the shoe is less well made than my 1012.
I tried them when the Brooks Beast I purchased did not fit well; they also went back and for a similar reason---the toebox is tight. Although I bought the same size as previous NB shoes these weren't comfortable from the moment I took them out of the box. They are going back.
I am a 5'11", 213 lb runner and usually run 4-5 miles. If you are looking for a substantial shoe this does not seem to be it.
I cannot understand why a company has to mess with a winning design. Bring back the 1012.
This is a new shoe
This shoe is billed as the successor to the 1011 and 1012. The shoe seems substantially revised to me. The toe box is smaller. The shoe seems lighter but at the cost of the iron, tank-like platform that was the old NB uber motion control shoe. The older shoes were very flat, crazy stable. The new shoe has a much more pronounced ark to the construction, starting with a much more pronounced crash pad. To most people, these may be improvements. To me, it was a new shoe that did not fit as well as or have the attributes that kept me loyal to the model for at least 6 pair. I returned my new 1340's and am now in shoe model limbo.
In defense of the shoe, my podiatrist disliked the 1011, 1012's, believing that the flat, gun-boat platform would be appropriate for almost no one. They served me well however. My podiatrist believes the new shape to the 1340's would make them a significant improvement to almost anyone, just not me. However, his assessment was the same as mine - the 1340 is an entirely different shoe.
Not a Plantar Faciitis shoe
I got these shoes to help cure my Plantar Faciitis but didn't think they helped that much. I found the insert that comes with the shoes to have inadequate cushioning but I think that's probably true for most atheltic shoes.
I ended up getting a pair of Keen Flint Low work shoes which were recommended by a nurse. They're a low cut steel toe work shoe that look like running shoes. These Keen shoes have great support. They are not a soft shoe like a running shoe. I'd say they are medium stiffnes, more than a running shoe but not as rigid as a dress shoe.

Great update to 1012!
This is the new update to the 1012 which has been out for a while. Very excited for this as it is has a nice new look and better cushioning! Feels like the 1012, except better!

definitely a step backward from 1012
I've worn NB motion control running shoes for about the past 15 years. The 1012 was a great model. This new model is a disaster. My instep has been hurting since the second day I've run in them. Classic overpronating issue that this shoe apparently doesn't deal with. The shoe feels too light weight, flimsy, and soft. Does not provide the necessary support that the 1012 provided. And I only weigh 152 lbs! I'll be buying Brooks now in the hopes of finding a shoe for the next 15 years. Too bad NB.
Great shoe but missed on the width.
Would have received 5 stars if it weren't for them making it much narrower than previous models. I have stuck with them since the 1011's to the 1012's with no complaints up until now. I put them up against my 1012's and they are clearly narrower than the older models. My feet feel cramped in the 1340's and I am experiencing blistering because of it. Will have to move up a width. Highly suggest ordering one width higher than you would normally.
New Balance 1340
I've only done 4-5 runs in these shoes but I'm not happy with them. I have been running in several pair of the Brooks GTS Series in a 13 2E width shoe. The 1340 runs considerably wider. Trying to pull the shoe string tighter causes the shoe mesh across the toes to wrinkle. The shoes are very heavy but don't seem to have much cushioning. The best word I can use to describe them is clunky. The Brooks GTS fit great out of the box but wear out quickly so that is why I was looking for a different shoe.
Less cushioning, more durable?
Heavy runner (187 lbs), average 20-25 miles/week.
Liked 1012's for cushioning and support...relieved plantar fasciitis and numbness over L4 distribution. However, shoes completely wore out within 150 miles (2 months). Used to run in ASICS and NB 1340 is very similar...good support but less cushioning. Durability remains to be seen. Waiting to see if plantar fasciitis or numbness returns.
A great all around shoe!
I ran in NB 99X series shoes for over 28 years while in the Marines. I like New Balance shoes as a result of the durability. I use these NB 1340s as cross trainers in the Gym and when I walk. It seems to work well with my orthotics as well. this is the first shoe I have bought made for low arch feet. I put around 20 miles a week on these shoes so we will see how they hold up wear wise.
Terrible replacement of the 1012
I've used motion control NB shoes for years, starting with the 1010, to 1011, to 1012 and loved them all. The 1340 fit nothing like the previous models. They are way too narrow in the arch and toe box. Plus, they did not seem to have the cushion of the previous 1012. I suggest going up a width if you use these, otherwise, I'm hearing great things about the 1540, which I am upgrading to with fingers crossed. Everything else about them seemed OK.
Mens New Balance 1340 recently purchased
Overall a good shoe. I run on a paved greenway daily, anywhere from 6 to 10 miles a day, 46-48 miles a week. Have been buying New Balance shoes now for past three years-two pairs every 6 months and rotate the shoes every otherday. Also I like that these are made in America shoes.
Solid Motion Control shoe
I switched to this shoe after Brooks Beast changed their model in early 2013. I really like the New Balance 1340 motion control shoe! It feels solid, has lots of support, more flexible and easier to run in than the Brooks Beast. I had been running in Brooks Beast for 5+ years.
I highly recommend these shoes!

Great replacement for the 1012
As with most new models there is skepticism but this shoe actually feels better and performs better than the earlier 1012. I would recommend this shoe. I have only put about 60 miles on so far but they want more, I am a 200lb runner so most shoes are not built for my stature.
Don't Last Very Long
The cushioning does not last very long. I weigh 210 and run only eight miles a week and got only about 25 pain-free runs out of these...the bottoms wear out too quickly. I am a former Asics Gel MC+ guy and I really miss those shoes....arrggghhh.

Loyal Road Runners Sports Fan
I bough two pairs based upon my use of a single pair from before due to the comfort and I want to start training again. I have been wearing NB since the 80's and this is the most comfortable and stable pair of shoes I have ever worn.

A little uncomfortable...
I agree with Chris. The toe box does feel too small compared with the 1012. I walk 2 miles a day and my toes are uncomortable after I'm done. I did buy these 1/2 larger as per the recommendation.
I'm not sure what shoe I will try next, or maybe just hunt around and find the older 1012.
They allow me to wear a plantar fasciitis brace comfortably (I'm awaiting ankle surgery). I wear them for workouts and casual wear. I appreciate the stability and support, and the room in the toe area.
Mens New Balance 1340 Running Shoe
These motion control shoes accommodate my orthotics and allow me to run injury free. The relatively heavy weight is a plus for my 205 lb frame. My street show size is 12 - 12 1/2 and my running shoe size is 14.
Great if u have foot pain
I used this with orthotics. Couldn't run at all before bc of my foot pain. Now I can run for an entire hour without pain. Although I only run on a treadmill. Only thing I didnt like about it is the appearance.
Good fit for an irregular feet!
I have a flat foot with the second toe bigger than the first toe (big toe). This shoe fitted perfectly. I liked the Shoe dog exercise done at Road runner store.
I have bought several pair of these.
I have foot and ankle problems and like the control. I wear these for everyday use.
It's all in the "last"
Why replace a great SL2 shoe with a new one that has an SL1? That is why the shoe feels tight and does not do well with orthotics.
A New approach to Balance
This New Balance model is comparable to the Brooks Beast
Great shoe - one of the best!
Great shoe - comfortable with great cushion and stability

good running shoe with support
comfortable fit good support
Big runner & 55 years old.
Support & Size
I exchanged the Asics Motion Control shoe for the New Balance 1340. I could not fit my orthotics into the Asics shoe but they fit very well in the New Balance 1340. The 2E width is perfect for me. I also have the New Balance 1540s which are tight on the side due to a strap on the outside. The NB 1340s fit well & last for someone with bad feet.
