Comments about Mens New Balance 1210 Trail Running Shoe:

I purchased these two months before a 50 mile North Face run in NY. They were great for training and the race. The race was very muddy but my shoes held up. I felt great the next week and was ready to run again. I read other reviews about the tongue being short. I probably would not have noticed if I did not read this but it is short. I never had any issue with the tongue slipping out and I have trained on all kinds of hills. The shoes are ugly so you don't mind when they are covered with mud.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1210 Trail Running Shoe:

I use these shoes for distance hiking, typically 50+ miles over a 3-day weekend with a 16-22 lb pack. The primary complaint people have about the tongue I find doesn't apply to me. I've found the tongue to be just perfect, but I wear the laces in the front holes because I find the heel fits like a glove. I can see how, if you needed to move the laces back, the tongue might be a problem. The sole is just strong enough without sacrificing too much flexibility. It may be a minor thing, but I love the flat laces, and they never come untied. My only complaint, which is probably tied to my use, is that I would like a little higher arch and some more cushioning. I think I can easily solve that with some Superfeet or other insoles, though.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1210 Trail Running Shoe:

Great trainer! I read the mixed reviews and can say that the tongue is the right length. The laces do slip but then again you probably are not tying them correctly. They were a little narrow, but after a few runs the shoe molds itself to your foot. I have worn this shoe with heavy socks for the winter and thin socks for the warmer months and had no problem. The cushoning is amazing! Even after 500 miles I am able to nock out hard interval sessions with no problem. I have ran on both pavement and trail. These shoes are great on pavement. The tread doesn't wear down fast. On trails the tread is self cleaning in muddy conditions. On rocky terrain the grip is really good. It handled very well in the snow, but you will need to wear a gortex liner. These shoes also drain real well and allow the foot to breath. The heel cup is large right out of the box. After a few runs it molds to your foot. Never had a blister or any other foot issue. These are labled stability shoes. But unlike other stability shoes you really don't notice it. This is a plus when running on uneven terrain. Even though the tread is wearing bald, there is still a few hundred miles left in them.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1210 Trail Running Shoe:

Despite some good features (grippy Vibram sole and a protective midsole) the 1210 has three features that prevent me from recommending it:
      1) the tongue is so short that on steep descents the laces would slide off the tongue onto my ankle, cutting in and causing pain.
      2) The heel tend to slip on steep ascents, and if the rear lace holes are used to prevent heel slippage the problem with the short tongue and the laces slipping off the tongue and cutting into my ankle was even worse.
      3) The mesh fabric breathes well, but is so porous the shoes filled with sand (not over the tops of the shoes, I was wearing snug fitting gaiters) and had to be emptied repeatedly when I ran in the desert.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1210 Trail Running Shoe:

I took this model on its first run out-of-the-box on a 10-mile mountain trail run through the Cascades and it performed flawlessly: good grip on steep dirt trail, talus, wood bridges, roots, and gravel; fits perfect; springy toe-off action; light enough to feel nimble with the ideal amount of protection and support. LOVE IT.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1210 Trail Running Shoe:

I run a lot of high mileage and love these shoes. Have done 2 30k races and a 50k in these on rugged mountains. They are great shoes and have a little stability, which is why I bought them. The outsole is holding up better than expected. One tiny thing is the material wearing along the collar, I cannot notice it while running but it is a visual flaw.

They did not meet the hype. Though the research shows feet grow 7% or so in the forefoot, the execution of this shoe failed. The upper seemed separate from the sole - aka the overlay did not hug the foot or move in a supportive manner as the sole/foot moves. check out hoka or brooks

Comments about Mens New Balance 1210 Trail Running Shoe:

I wanted a trail running shoe as I'm getting more into that here in Colorado. It seems very durable, rugged and lightweight.

I really wanted to like the Leadville had some of the common problems others have mentioned. The heel is too wide and using the rear lacing option was problematic given there is insufficient length in the tongue of the shoe. Seems weird that there isn't another 1/2 inch of tongue length. I have narrow feet and these simple don't come in a narrow width. It would be OK if not for the huge heel. I also thought there was a motion control component even though it's advertised as neutral. As a neutral runner I struggled with some knee and hip pain in just a couple of runs. It's also very much of a bowling shoe color in gray...recommend getting it in blue as the gray shoe looks worse in person than it does on the web. If you have a wide foot and pronate slightly the Leadville is your shoe. Otherwise, steer clear.

I'm exchanging for the 1080 in a narrow. It, and its predecessors have been my tried and proven shoe for years, comfortable as slippers. I'm thankful for RRS's great service and ability to exchange, makes the VIP program well worth it.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1210 Trail Running Shoe:

I am an Ultrarunner currently training for a couple of 100s this summer. I bought this shoe because of all the hype that it was designed for ultra runners. I bought my first pair in my normal size and they were too big. I had to exchange them for a half size smaller. I think it may have to do with the stretch of the upper. The shoes worked very well in cushioning. I think they would feel great in the later stages of a 100. I found two problems that I do not like about the shoe. First, the upper is very loose and I would even go as far as to say sloppy. While running technical trails, the shoe moves all around. Secondly, the top of the tongue where you tie the laces has no padding. While going downhill you can feel the laces digging into the top of your foot. I believe they would be good in races that are not very hilly or technical that are run on dirt roads, such as the Vermont 100, only because of the cushioning. I have to say, I was disappointed in this shoe. Was hoping for better.

This is my new favorite trail shoe! I really like how cushioned they feel on the trails and they are extremely light. Another review mentioned a short tounge but I did not find this to be an issue for me so I think that it may not be a problem for everyone. Overall this is a wonderful shoe that I will be recommending to my entire trail running group.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1210 Trail Running Shoe:

Wore shoes on a short 5 mile run and was impressed. So I wore them on a 20 miler the next day on easy terrain. My right shoe came unstiched in that run and had to go exchange them. For a shoe built for ultras you would have to carry 4 pairs to make through leadville. I'll stick with my hokas.

Comments about Mens New Balance 1210 Trail Running Shoe:

This is a wonderful shoe, except the tongue is too short! The result is a lot of pressure on the top of the foot. After technical trail running in them the laces had slid directly on top of the foot. I bought the shoes for ultra running and can't see running more than 10miles without having foot pain or hot spots on the top of the foot.

The tongue aside, the shoe is well cushioned but not sloppy and offers a very smooth ride. I've run the shoe on snow packed technical trails and have been impressed with the traction and comfort of the shoe. For the shoes size it is quite responsive, flexible, and nimble.
