I run approx. 10-20 mi/week and have worn several different NB shoes because they offer extra wide sizes. The 890 is a good neutral shoe. My only complaint is that, like the 1080 and 760 I used over the last couple years, the sole of the 890 wears down pretty quickly. I've put maybe 40-50 mi on my 890s and the sole is already wearing down on the outsides where my foot rolls when I run (underpronator). Overall good shoe so I have to give it a high rating - just wish NB were more durable.

I have enjoyed this shoe. I run about 20 miles per week and so far it's working well. I use an insert so I buy a 1/2 size too big and a wide. They seem to run small in both areas especially with an insert.

Not as much cushion as I expected. Good for walking but don't work for me running. Biggest problem is size inconsistency. I bought other colors and they ran short and narrow so I returned them and went back to Asics.

First pair of New Balance shoes I've owned. They were on sale at a great price so I thought it was worth a try. Glad I did. They are so light and comfortable like a pair of well worn shoes out of the box. Cushioning is excellent and I have a heavy heel strike. They fit like a glove and sizing up is a must. For me, it was .5 inches. The shoe strings feel like cloth which is the only thing I'm suspicious about.

Had the 890 a few years ago and actually bought a couple of these, they were great shoes. Went to many different shoes after that, but just got back to these 890v4's and am glad I did. I often have achilles issues and after straining it again, got a pair and was so happy! Comfortable, cushiony and light! Just not thrilled with the colors, guess that's why I left, but cannot beat being able to run without pain!

This is a top shoe in my rotation. I have three pairs. It is light, comfortable and protective - a great combination. It also looks great in the Silver version. I have run two marathons in this shoe and found it to hold me through to the end with comfort and protection while feeling light weight.

I've been a New Balance user since I was a teenager -- both for casual and exercise use. Recently I wanted to start running again, but I didn't want to get hurt. At first, these shoes seemed kind of too light, and I thought that it wouldn't provide enough cushioning or support. They felt weird right out of the box. But, when you get to running, they cushion well, gets great non-slip traction, and feels wonderful to run. There's no pain that lingers -- only the good pain during the run and it's not the shoes.

Right now, I'm conditioning on the treadmill at the gym, but I'm looking forward to using them on the road and for longer distances.

Of course, New Balance has a committment to USA manufacturing, even if they use some imported materials.

I underpronate, and I've been told to get neutral shoes.

The only negative for me is I would love to get the lighter grey/white with red combination, but they don't have it readily available in my wide size.

I was going to experiment with other shoe brands, but I realize I've really found the shoe that works for me. I'm going to order a second backup pair soon.

I ran through 5 pair of 890v2's, so I'm a long time 890 fan. I wear a 10.5 in v2 and 10.5 in v4. The heal cushioning is very good, as is the fit around the heal. The sole is a pod system, which works well for me in the heal but not the forefoot. One of the pods in the middle of the forefoot (just below the middle toes) is a triangle, and the point seems to almost have a splitting effect between my middle toes. It is somewhat subtle, so for shorter runs (4 or 5 miles) not a big deal. The forefoot pod system also makes the v4 less suitable for trail running (I'm talking dirt through the woods) as it doesn't distribute the impact from sticks, stones, and roots. The forefoot cushioning in the v4 is more than the v2. The toe box is bigger - both in width and height. It took several lacing adjustments to get this to fit right, but bottom line I got it done. The tongue is large - in width (side to side) within the shoe and the amount it comes out the top. Breaking in I had to slide the tongue toward the arch when putting the shoe on and then roll it back in place as my foot got in the shoe to prevent the tougue rolling up/folding. I rotate the 890v4 with the Brooks Launch and prefer the Launch.

I run 25 to 30 miles per week and these shoes are great! I have PF and these shoes are well cushioned in the heel. Will definitely buy again. My only complaint is the toe box is a little small so next time I'll buy a half size up.

Great shoe and an improvement over the V3. Works well for me as a trainer and a racing shoe for everything from 5K - 1/2 marathon. More cushioning than a minimalist shoe but still lightweight and flexible. I've been very pleased.

This is a great shoe, much better than the 890v3 with the added toe room. I use the 890's for my daily training. They are comfy and I never get blisters, I use the thin road runner no show socks with them. Great on the treadmill for rainy days or the road/trails on non-rainy days. I highly recommend them. Get a 1/2 size bigger than normal shoes. ENJOY!!

This is a great everyday running shoe if you are training for a marathon. I've ran in just about everything over the past 7 years and these are best neutral shoe I've had. I have custom orthotics and these are the shoes my foot guy recommended. This version fits much better in the toe box than the previous. They are not the most cushioned shoes, but if your a bigger runner like I am, you probably don't want that for high mileage. You won't find a pair lighter and they are a reasonable price too.

I run mostly dirt roads, trails and treadmill and been wearing the 890v2,v3 and now v4 which they have slight more cushion on forefoot than the old styles. Great grip when raining or wet. If you are looking for stability I would say there is not much. Still a great product from NEW BALANCE!!

When I first got the shoe I was skeptical since I was used to a bit more stability. After running in them for a week, I am very happy. The shoe is very comfortable and provides ample cushion. I plan to use this shoe to add mileage while avoiding pain and injury.

I am training for a full marathon. I ran in these outside about 8 times, running 13.2 miles today. I beat my past half marathon by 5 minutes without much effort. They are so light and wonderful. Period.
Get them a size bigger. I am 14, and semi wide. I ordered a 15 Wide. Perfecto. Best shoe my feet had...I am running the Full in these for sure.

I've been looking for a lightweight, cushioned shoe to take on long runs. Found it with the 890v4. Took them for a 10 mile run right out of the box and they felt great. Really great. I've tried the Mizuno Inspire 10 and the Saucony Cortana 3, but these, by far, feel the best. They have just the right about of arch support. I thought the amount of cushioning was also perfect. Soft enough to be comfortable but not to the extent where they take away from the feel of the road. The low heel drop helps to promote a morenatural mid-foot/fore-foot strike. I ran the LA Marathon in these yesterday and today, I have no back pain and no knee pain! I just had to write a review after that. NB nailed it with this updated version!

I bought this shoe due to the good reviews, and this shoe has not disappointed. I wanted to hold off on reviewing this shoe until I got some serious mileage and a marathon in.

Don't let the appearance of this shoe fool you. It looks more like a minimalist shoe at first sight (it's super light), but it is comparable to any other shoe in the "Neutral" category (as defined by RRS). This is evident in its performance. I have put about 275+ miles on this shoe (including the recent 2014 LA Marathon), and there are plenty more miles left in the shoe. I think these are a perfect blend of performance, flexibility, and durability.

I will say that this shoe did take me a lot longer to break in compared to other shoes. I ran in the Nike Pegasus 28/29, and those were easier to break into. Your experience might vary, but it took me about 40 miles for me to confidently say that my feet and the shoes were good friends in terms of breaking them in.

For the LA Marathon, these shoes were excellent. Never once did I have to think or worry about the shoes. I never felt like the shoes were heavy or overly responsive to the road. I always like to say that if you're not thinking about your shoes while you run, then the shoes are doing their job. Not that the shoes alone allowed me to reach my goal time, but they surely didn't hinder me from doing so!

I really don't have anything bad to say about the shoes. I think another reviewer commented that more color combinations would be nice, but I'm just nitpicking at this point.

All in all, a great shoe. I was hesitant about it at first, but those hesitations were based on visual impressions that were squashed rather immediately when I actually started runnin in them. For me, I had to order a 1/2 size up (I normally wear 8.5, but I ordered a 9). That worked out fine.

WOW! I always have a couple of shoes. One for speed workouts (pure flows) and another for long runs (1080) and a third pair for races (launch). With the new 890 I don't need so many pairs! they are just plain perfect. Just ordered another pair!

I wear them for speed and tempo workouts. The NB890v4 has a better cushion then my Brooks. I will not trade neither of them just glad NB made a running shoe I can now use with my Brooks.

Caution your heart rate, lungs, and knees will send you a warning..."slow down, we're not use to this speed". Great shoe to counter heavier shoes you use for greater mileage and to train with higher leg turnover.

I run about 3-4 times a week anywhere from 3-6 miles. This shoe is a great trainer, with the right amount of cushioning for me. I did not want too minimal or too heavy of a shoe. This is a good in-between trainer. A little bit more cushion than the V3 but great on knees and back. I use on road and treadmill.

I have always found New Balance shoes to be too firm and stiff for my taste. The 890v4 dispelled that notion. This shoe is very light, provides solid cushioning without being too soft, and is FLEXIBLE. I've put about 100 miles on the shoe in the last few weeks and it is quickly becoming one of my "go to" shoes. It works well for tempo runs and track work, but is still great for longer runs as well. I could definitely run a half or a full marathon in these shoes. I'll be buying another pair before the next update.
