Please....Please...Please don't get rid of this shoe! I trained and competed in college with the New Balance 1220. 12 years later I am still training and competing in it. There IS NO replacement for this shoe...I have tried other versions and nothing matches up to this shoe!

I have been running in these shoes for years. They are the only shoe that does not aggravate my plantar faciatis. Please bring them back!

I hate that this shoe is gone. It has seen me through achilles problems. I love it, HELP!! What will I wear? I have tried 1223 & 1224 and they will not work for me.

I'm sick about this being discontinued. I've worn them ever since my foot surgery 8 years ago. Only ones that fit comfortably. Now what do I do??

These shoes are PERFECT! They fit like a glove and give support in all the right places, ran a 1/2 in them and had no pain or problems! Definitely recommend!

I've tried many shoes and these are the only ones that don't give me blisters on long runs. They fit my foot perfectly. This is my 10th pair and hope they make this shoe forever!

I have been running for 30 years and I have never been so satisfied with a pair of shoes. I am so Happy with these; they're light, supportive, cushioned, and stable--very imp for my achilles--they never change--it's the same smoothe ride from the box to the recycle bin. The best shoe I've ever worn for going on at least 10 years.

Mon, June 23,2008:
I was very happy when these came out. A worthy successor to the old 1200, of which I bought 13 pair! I'm probably on my 8th pair of these. They are a great supportive, cushioned shoe, with an adequate heel counter, which the 1221's didn't have. Very important when you are wearing orthotics with a lift. Please keep them forever, unless they come out with one exactly like it.

BEST GYM SHOE EVER!! and VERY hard to find...

Sun, August 19,2007:
This is the best running shoe for anyone who needs extra support. I am so glad they still carry the 1220, since the 1221 is a poor substitute.

Thu, July 19,2007:
I love these shoes. I have been buying them for years. I was so sad when they stopped making them for the 1221--a shoe that is nothing in comparison (the mesh siding takes away support and stability from the overall product). I was very happy when 1220 came back. It is a wonderful shoe for individuals with flat feet. I am 5'8'' and susceptible to shin splints and overpronation, I have tried many different shoes and brands, but NB1220 is definitely the best.

Although I have a high arch and don't pronate, these shoes still work better for me than anything else I've tried. Excellent fit and comfort over long distances. (I'm female, 5'3", and solidly built.)

I have already worn out two and will be purchasing my third pair! This is one of the few shoes that does not chafe my ankles. Totally comfortable and stable.

Great running shoe, but after a few runs (10?) my left shoe decided to relieve the tongue of any obligation to remain stitched to the upper. Taking in for repairs and hoping that's the only construction flaw.

I've been wearing these shoes for years and I STILL think they are the most comfortable shoes out there. I've tried others (I am returned the Asics Gel Kayano XI as I write this to exchange them for the 1220) but none can hold a candle to these shoes. You can't go wrong with them!

Love them. Have worn Nike, Adidas and Saucony -- which are okay, but the 1220s are great. You can take them out of the box and run hard. What a shame they are now an endangered "species".

This is a great shoe. The new version of this has more durability with the same great stability and heel as this. Both are fantastic! I've been running in these shoes (and the new version) since they came out and tried many others in the meantime, but none as good as these... For me, of course.

These are definately the best shoes I have ever run in. I'm 220 lbs 5 foot 10 inches with average arches. They fit like a dream and the knee and foot pain I was used too with other shoes is a thing of the past. I run about 40 miles a week at present with 2 marathons in front of me this fall so I couldn't be happier! Highest recommendation!

I have run 3,000 miles and 3 marathons in the past 24 months, 75% of it in 1220s. I average 300/miles before retiring them. I started at 195 lbs, now 175 lbs and 60 years old. I also have 1221, 2001, 991,Kayanos, Brooks, and Mizunos but I just stocked up with another 9 pairs of 1220s..I haven't found anything better!

Sun, November 21,2004:
After getting tendonitis in these shoes training for the 2001 NYCM, I blamed it on the shoes. In 2002, I switched to the Mizuno Wave (terrible), the Adidas Cairo (worst) and finally to the NB 580 which I used for the NYCM that year. However, for some reason two brand new pairs of NB 580's gave me shin splints throughout my training season this year. Before buying new shoes I started back with my old 1220's and I am amazed, the shinsplints stopped from day one and nothing else hurts. I am buying a new pair of 1220s today.

"Upgraded" from the 991's. I am 6'2", 225 lbs - 30 miles/week. Felt like running on wood slats - the thick soles don't give. Shins have taken a pounding. Going to try Asics Kayanos or stay with 991's.

My doctor suggested this NB model sneaker after my foot surgery. I have been wearing them for 4 years. I need a new pair however, I would like to know which NB sneaker is comparable to this fit. I do not run, I walk. A style more femine perhaps. Any suggestions? My doc is still recommending this style. Thank you.

Don't waste your money on the closeouts. This is a great shoe, but it only lasts about 200 miles. I am under 160, and I quickly wore two pairs of this model out. My local running specialty store refused to carry the model due to wear problems. Buy the 1221 SB instead. NB seems to have solved the durability problems, but the model is slightly stiffer.

The 1220 is the best running shoe I have used and have been wearing it since they came out. I am sorry that the company has discontinued it. Great for moderate, daily running. Made in the USA, too.

Mon, October 11,2004:
After my stash of 1210's ran out I purchased the 1220 and did not recognize this shoe. It was one of the worst running shoes I have ever purchased with hardly any cushion or arch support. The first time I have ever felt any leg pain was after I ran with these which felt like a shoe I picked up at Payless.

I've had troubles finding shoes that fit well since I was a little girl. I started getting New Balances 4-5 years ago and am now on my 7th or 8th pair!! The past 3 have been the 1220...Need I say more?? They're great for people with wider feet. Lots of people have posted they're great for the "larger" runner, but being that I'm a female, 5'7" and about 110 shows that they're great for any size! (I even buy the men's style, which are normally made for "larger people" than women's shoes.)

Mon, September 06,2004:
WOW! What a shoe! I am 6'3" 220 lbs- thus a clydesdale. I run 9-15 miles a week. I wore Adidas Response until I found out that they were for small ti medium framed people (not me) and medium to high arches (I have had two pediatrists tell me I have the flattest feet that they have seen). The website recommended these shoes and they are by far the most expensive shoes I have bought for athletics (I was a college tennis player as well as play lots of sports now). The day I got these shoes, my back was sore and my knee was aching. I decided I had to go out and give these a shot. My back and knee pain went away and I ran the course I run often in my fastest time. Not all the shoes but I have now put on over 60 miles and they are still great! No more foot pain (thus the pediatrists mentioned before)!

Very good shoe. As a larger runner I am accustomed to the EVA midsole of shoes such as the 1220 wearing out quickly - I was able to obtain nearly 400 miles.

I got a pair of these at the NB store. I have a bad pronation problem and shinspints are a frequent problem. These are good for the first few weeks but after that seem like most other "stability" shoe. If you're not flat footed these are great.

Ran a half marathon in these yesterday. The miles went by and nothing was hurting. No shinsplints, knee pain. These are great shoes. Stable and cushioned all in one shot. Time will tell if they hold up. Right now, I have 50 or so miles on them. Very happy so far.

The 1220 has done wonders on my knees. I was a nike man and now I will never buy Nike running shoes agian since I bought a pair of 1220's. I run an average of 50 miles a week and I feel no pain. It is a great shoe for those high arch feet. I highly recommend these shoes to all runners as durable and reliable. If you feel like it's a heavy person kind of shoe well your wrong I weigh 135lb and there a blessing to the kind of training I go through. If you think Im wrong or on the same ballpark email. me your comments.

Great shoe for big runners, which means over 180 lbs. A bit heavy, but does last a good amount of time.

Not a shoe for everyone, but for me it's been a great long-run shoe. No dreamy ride or anything, but the miles just go by and nothing hurts. Probably better for medium-to-large sized guys.
