Fri, February 10,2006:
I have worn 854, 855s, and am on my second pair of 856s. The only reason that I did not rate it a 5 is that the rubber on the heel wears away after only 3-4 months of running on them. Otherwise, GREAT SHOE!!!

Thu, November 17,2005:
*56 has been a great shoe as I wear orthotics and need a narrow shoe. I have worn the other 850 series and the 856 is the bestone yet. I like the lighter feel and have worn the last 8 pairs with no breakin period with no hot spots. I hope the next shoes in the series are not changed much. Wish there...

Been a New Balance man my whole life. That said I was extremely disappointed with the 856. Not nearly up to previous models in this line.

I was very disappointed in the 856's. I had the 855's which were heavy, but when I wore the 856's I had severe knee pain even while walking.

Going on my 4th pair of NB 856s. Used to run in the Brooks Adrenalines but found they were breaking down after 250-300 miles, and didn't want to try the Beast. I don't fit the weight profile for the 856 (I'm 6', 200 lbs), but knock on wood, I've had success with them. I have to wear the 4E width ...

I loved the 851 and continue to run in the 850s series because I have narrow flat feet. However, I am not wild about the 856. Needs more cushion and room in toe box

Sun, July 17,2005:
Not a bad shoe, but not as good as the 851. It's a lighter shoe but doesn't have the same level of stability.

Thu, July 14,2005:
I am a big fan of the 854 and was extremely disappointed in the 856. This shoe has little cushion and it feels like I am running on bare pavement.

This is the first time i've gotten a blister from a NB shoe. i'd think twice before buying this shoe

Fantastic all around shoe. Most here do not agree with me it seems, but I have had no problems.

I too bought this shoe because RRS was out of 851s in my size. It's crap.

I run 4-5 times a week for about 20 miles/week. I am short and have flat feet. I am very happy with these shoes.

Wed, May 25,2005:
I have 5 pair of running shoes. Four of them are 854's which are worn out. I purchased the 856 expecting it to be magnitudes better than the 854's. The 856's are lighter and have good control. The only issue - the 856's do not have as much cushion in the heel as the 854's. I can feel the every ...

Mon, May 23,2005:
Have been running in 851s for 6 years and have loved them. I tried these because I couldn't get the 851 anymore....where's the cushion??? These are like running on cardboard compared to the 851. Is it too much to ask for motion control and cushion in one shoe?

15.    val powers rated this product 5 stars
Fri, May 06,2005:
These are the best running shoes I have ever had! So comfortable and the motion control really works. Definitely size up.

Mon, April 25,2005:
I've run in almost all brands and tried many different stability/motion-control shoes, I like these the best! It is so light and cushioned. I was a little apprehensive about getting these because I wasn't that impressed with the 855s, but I am sold on the 856. I want another pair!

Tue, April 19,2005:
I put about 350 miles on the 856's and they are only now starting to show some wear/breakdown. Cushioning is fine, and stability is great. I have a narrow, flat foot, so the fit is very, very good for me. While I wish a motion control shoes could be more cushioned/responsive, NB has a good design...

Wed, April 13,2005:
The 856 is a great shoe for me. I have wide flat feet and got the 2e. Been running in them for 3 months, and do not need orthotics with these shoes. They feel light for motion control shoes.

Thu, April 07,2005:
What happened to the New Balance fit? It has been completely destroyed! None of the shoes fit well. 856 is much too narrow in forefoot. No longer combination lasted. Narrowness of toe box caused severe toe irritation.

Fri, February 18,2005:
I have been wearing Saucony's for as long as I remember, but decided to try something new. I found the 856's to be ok on flat terrain but not great for trail or hill running. Not enough cushioning in the toe area, and the rollbar is very uncomfortable.

Mon, February 14,2005:
The 856 is a great shoe. I had worn out two pairs of 854's before buying a pair of 855's which were absolutely horrible shoes. These are as good as the NB 991 in my book for stability and cushioning!

Sat, February 05,2005:
no comparion to the 851,the best shoe is still 851 in my book,i tried these 856 for long distance they break down too fast, fairly comfortable, but loose's the stability and cushion way too fast

Tue, February 01,2005:
I've really enjoyed these shoes, as they provide stability but are not to heavy. I'm flat footed, but short, so I'm not sure how well they would fare for a really large runner.

Thu, September 23,2004:
I had problems with my feet and shins. I found that the problem was beacause of my over-cushioned shoes. I went to a great store, Movin Shoes in Madison, and they suggested these. I really like them. No problems so far.

Tue, September 21,2004:
I wore the 853's for my last 3 marathons... tried the 855's and didn't like them. When the 856's came out, I tried them and really like them. They feel lighter in weight than the 853 and has more ventilation with the mesh uppers. I'll be sticking with the 856's until they come up with something bett...
