To each his own. But, I like this version compared to the 1122's. MUCH BETTER!

Ignore the review from 911skibum. Comparing the 883 to the 1123 is like comparing pizza to Q-tips. The 883 is a neutral shoe and the 1123 is a Motion Control+ shoe. No wonder he hated them. Great stability. Bit heavy. But, all MC+ shoes are.

Both of my ankles have been broken. One surgically repaired. I have had a torn ACL and numerous strains and other tears. It was enormously important that I find a running shoe that provided maximum motion control and shock absorbance. I contacted NB experts and the 1123 was one of the options that I was given. My feet seem to lock in place as if they were locking into an orthopedic walking boot for reahabilitation. Initially, did feel a little discomfort in my mid foot tha lasted only momentarily. I honestly believe that this was just apart of making the adjustment. Seriously, I love this shoe. The mesh adhers to your feet like a light-weight sock, nice and snug with phenomenal control that "gives" just enough for extra comfort. My ankles are not rolling from side to side. I can easily adher to heal-to-toe motion. I recommend that runners with an under-pronated gait, flat arches, and previous severe ankle and lower extremity injuries purchase this shoe.

I bought these shoes when I could not get the NB 883's. I like the NB 880 series. I am 6'0" and 175 pounds. The shoes are like running on bricks--heavy and they hurt my feet. I bought a pair of NB 883's to compare and I did not have the problems. Don't waste your money like I did. I learned my lesson, use stick with what works and doesn't hurt you.

Like other reviewers, I wore the 1121 and 1122 and had great experience with them both. The 1123, however, is a serious disappointment. They can't put out a replacement fast enough.

Horrible! I loved my 1122s but these 1123 suck. they are too firm and inflexible. I have been wearing NB shoes for over a decade and these just don't do it for me.

Terrific shoe. Durable, comfortable, and great for the heavier runner.

This was a great shoe for me. I got plantar fascitis for the first time in my life, and forced me to look at stabilizer shoes. This shoe reduced my foot pain by 80% after a week of running. I have thrown faster and longer running times as well. Bought a pair for my wife, who has rheumatoid arthritis (hates shoes in general) and loves these shoes so far! I agree with the comment they are kinda an ugly shoe, which is why I only gave 4 stars. Excellent performance!

I had planned on purchasing the 1123 as a replacement for my worn out 1122; however, after reading the reviews, I will purchase a Brooks Beast 10

I am just getting to the last of the 10 pairs of 1122's I bought after they were discontinued. I bought the 1123 and they are just awful. I have had every problem mentioned by the other reviewers--knee pain, hip pain, arch pain etc. New Balance replaced the first pair because they rubbed blisters but the second pair caused other problems. I ran in the 1121 and the 1122 was an excellent replacement. This one is a disaster. I am going to try the Beast.

Not worth the cost. These shoes should be discontinued. Absolutely no cushion and stability is even worst.Hope they will have a replacement for the 1010. I'd tried the 1011 they don't come close to the original. Perhaps thats why its not just a perfect 10 but two 10. Please bring them back. 1010 rocks!

This shoe is not set up like the previous 1122. The sole of the shoe doesn't give it a lot of support. Can you replace the sole with the older model? Thanks

I used the 1122's for several years and it was a great shoe. The 1123 runs at least a half size bigger and does not offer nearly as much support as the 1122. I bought a pair of discontinued 1010's to replace the 1123's in the hope that NB comes up with a better product. If not,I will try Asics or Brooks. Big disappointment for NB,especially considering the price.

One last thing. I cannot even wear this shoe walking without getting arch pain. I wear my too-worn-out-to-run-in 1122s all weekend with extreme comfort. NB folks: please save us from having to jump to the Brooks Beast and redesign this shoe based on 1122 SOON!

Sun, April 12,2009:
Forgot to mention in my review that, as if having the new version of the shoe become virtually unwearable, NB jacked up the price significantly. A real disappointment all around.

For me, this shoe is a big downgrade from the prior version, the 1122. Ran the 2008 New York Marathon in 1122s without any problem. I can't run 3 miles in the 1123s without arch pain. Just not the same support for the heavy runner in the 1123s. I hope they will scrap this shoe and go back to the 1122s, as I only have 3 pairs of 1122s left from the 8 pairs I bought after trying the 1123s.

Quite possibly the UGLIEST NB ever made! I'm a heavy Supinator and these are heavy and "clunky". Someone even asked me why I was wearing an "special orthopedic" shoe, because the inside profile looks very geriatric....sorry, but true

Still looking for a good replacement for the 1010 - unfortunately, the 1123 is not it. Virtually NO Cushioning and cannot tell if there is motion control because the shoe came in at least a full size larger than any other NB I have owned. How disappointing for such big bucks.

Sun, September 14,2008:
Unfortunately, a poor replacement for the 1122. Something is lacking in the arch support -- either that or the softer upper of the shoe is not holding my foot down in the arch. Either way, this shoe gives me arch pain that the 1122 did not, and that after only a couple miles. Definitely not a high mileage shoe, which is unfortunate since I ran a couple marathons in the 1122s.

Excellent shoe for motion control. Excellent flexibility. Runs 1 size larger than normal, so get fitted first at a store. Provides both medial and latteral support to keep the feet properly grounded. Can also accomodate orthotics well, but you probably won't need them with these.

I am a heavy 180p overpronator. This is the best M.C. shoe I have ever wore. Perfect cushioning, and PERFECT motion control, in the SAME shoe!! Thank you New Balance

A terrific shoe for someone like myself who requires maximum cushioning and support. my biomechanics require an orthotic as well. The shoe works well in tandem with prescriptive orthotics. The shoe does not feel too bulky, and maintains an acceptable level of flexibility even with it's advance design features. I have been waiting for this shoe for a shoe like this for a long time. THANK YOU!
