        THIS IS NOT A NEUTRAL SHOE.

        NB describes this as a "maximum control" shoe and the direct replacement of the 817 MC shoe. Anything with a 40 in the model number is a control shoe. It has no visible medial posting in the midsole because it uses a new tech polyurethane to establish pronation control.

        SL-2 last as always gives generous width, especially in toebox. If you wear 2E width in Brooks, you should buy this in standard D width.

          6 ft. 250 lb longtime runner. since the Brooks Beast narrowed its toebox the last few updates,
          I switched to the 1010-1011 & 1012 NB MC shoes.
          Although they were heavy I loved the extra room in the sl-2 last. The new update the 1340 is built on a lower volume last - the sl-1. It is too narrow for me. I thought that I would try the 1140 with its sl-2 last.

          The fit is perfect for me. Although it doesn't have the gray dual density look to it make no mistake, this is a control shoe!! On my first short run I thought that it felt pretty firm.
          It softened up a little bit and I think as I break it in it will soften up a little more.
          But it I don't think that it will ever feel real soft, which is a good think for me. Soft shoes tend to inflame my Plantar Fasciitis. Although it is firm it is pretty comfortable for me. If your 130 lbs. it may be too firm for you. The shoe also feel much lighter than the 1012. I will buy this shoe again.

            Not a neutral shoe. As per New Balance, this shoe is the direct replacement to the 817MC and is a "maximum control" shoe. There is no visible posting because a new type of polyurethane is used in the midsole to counter pronation instead of the usual medial post.

            Roomy toebox in SL-2 last. I use 2E in brooks beast or a SL-1 NB shoe but standard D width in this shoe. And it still has more width in the toebox Vs the Beast.
