Apparently I'm on a wild goose chase, looking for a New Balance 1012 replacement. Seems the "good Idea fairies" at NB thought it best to kill the 1012 product line. I have called NB and I basically get the equivalent to an auditory deer in the headlights response. I have spent hundreds trying to find a shoe that fits my pronating foot; I run distance and rough mountain trail.
1540? not even close
Gel- Kayano close but nope
Lasportiva close but no
Originally bought the 1340's as a replacement for my 1012's. Wore the 1340's for a few weeks but could not get over the fact they felt much narrower than the 1012's even with 2E width. Wrote NB and they indicated 1540 are built on same shoe last as 1012's. RRunner Sports took back the 1340's and I've been happy in my 1540's. Wide toe box, great stability, lighter than the 1012's & 1340's and very breathable.

Great Running Shoe
I love the 1540, it's a great running shoe. I like to run marathons and this shoe helps keep me on the road. It can easily handle the mileage and whatever you throw at it. It is stable, well cushioned, and very durable. I've worn the 1120, 1121, 1122, and the 1123, and while those were all great shoes, the 1540 tops them all. I just wish they weren't so expensive.
I am a 200 lb. runner with flat arches. Years of athletics has injured my ankles and I overpronate badly. I run 3 to 4 times a week/ 3 to 5 miles a run. I have tried numerous shoes and this one is going back. Feels too narrow, causing pain in my arch. The tongue is rigid and slips down causing irritation. Toe feel tight. Not good forward cushion.
So bad the N's came off after a week.
These shoes are bad. The glue that glued the N's to the side of the shoe had loosen enough that I had 1/2 of 2 N's flapping when I was running after one week of use.
Also the shoe laces are of such poor quality, they almost always become untied at the worst possible moments. What happened to New Balance, you used to make really good shoes!
Don't buy these shoes, get a Brooks Beast instead.
A solid performer
Nice solid shoe; plenty of width, but almost too wide; at times I feel as though my foot slides within the shoe; for the 1st time in a long time, I struggled with blisters on the instep; have now overcome that and am getting solid performance; I alternate between a white and black pair and typically run 8 miles, 3-4 times per week;

Excellent for over-pronators
My husband has sunken arches from years of running and over-pronating, and he's been wearing these as his everyday shoe for a year. His podiatrist has been very impressed with how well it supports without his prescription inserts. We've been able to go for long walks again without pain.
Not worth the money
Purchased these as the NB 1012 was discontinued. They wear better than the 1012, but the support isn't there and they give me blisters all over. I went up a 1/2 size and they still feel small. Toe box feels un-supported... likely not enough arch support and my front foot moves around.
At 55 miles, so far so good
Use on treadmill and on road/asphalt trails.
Initial comfort is good. The available colors white and black are not good options. Bought the white shoes and they stand out too much. Want shoes that are low keyed, perform as expected, and not designed to make a fashion statement.

I tried Brooks Beast, and went back to New Balance 1540. Prior running sneakers were New Balance 1123. Nothing compares to motion control and stability of this sneaker. Well worth the money..

Feet on fire
Breathability of shoe is poor - bought in Fall, but can't imagine wearing during warmer seasons. Also, top of tongue rides low, so pain-points at top of laces. Otherwise, good shoe.
Finally an update to the 1123!
So excited that there is finally an update to the 1123! The 1123 was a great shoe, but it had been around for a long time. This is such a great update and I'm excited to have this new model for a long time!
Great Shoe! Needs more colors.
Was quoted 6-7 day shipping... Arrived in 2...!!!

helps with plantaz facitaze, added arch
very conformable with hurting feet
Pleased with purchase
Excellent arch support. Plenty of room in the toe box. Could use more cushioning in the front. I have only used for 10 days, walking 2 miles per day. Not sure how they will hold up over time. Overall nice shoe.
