I'm in the process of joining the military, so I spend most of my time working out and running. I figured because I need to get better at running that I should buy an actual pair of running shoes, and boy were these a good decision.
I have two issues that I needed to work around while finding a good running shoe: my arches and my foot strike. I have very high arches, and when looking for a lightweight/minimalist shoe, a good arch support is hard to find. The Nike Free 5.0 are the best of all worlds, as they are extremely lightweight, extremely flexible, but still maintain integrity in the food bed with good arch support and cushioning (you definitely don't need socks with these either because they are so comfortable on the foot and around the ankle).
As I work on my form, I'm working on becoming a mid-foot striker, although right now I am a heel-striker and was worried that I would not be able to find support in a lightweight shoe to accompany the impact, especially without wearing down the heel quickly. I don't think it matters what type of striker you are, these shoes are perfect for everyone.
I would recommend these to everyone. My husband is in the market for new shoes and I'm getting him a pair of these. Do your feet a favor and splurge on these; they're worth every penny.
Great shoe-- comparable to 1st gen
I had 1st generation Nike Free Runs for about 3 years (before they came out with the 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 numbering system). These shoes are my replacement for those and they are a pretty close match. I tried the 4.0 Free Runs but felt the heel rise was a little too low and I began to get achilles pain. These seems to have the same (or very close) heel rise as the original Free Runs, as well as very similar flexibility and cushioning. My only slightly negative comment is re: the sizing. My old shoes were 8, and I was able to wear them without socks or with pretty much any weight of sock. These are definitely tighter, still comfortable without socks or with a thin sock, but forget heavy socks-- they won't fit. Yet I didn't really want to go up a half-size either, as I feel that would be too big without socks. Don't know what Nike did-- perhaps it is just a matter of newer materials or something about the newer shoe construction. Anyhow, overall, I'm really happy with this shoe!

Free your Run
I've had these shoes for a week now, and I have to say, they're fantastic! I went to my local Roadrunner, and Shoe Dog put me in a neutral/performance neutral shoe. These were the second pair of shoes I tried on, and I fell in love with them. For a beginning runner who is hoping to get into barefoot running, these are a great transition shoe. They have enough cushion to be comfy, but are super lightweight too! I have a high arch with inflexible ankles, so the flexibility of the sole is fantastic, versus my old shoes, which were stiff as could be and caused me intense pain. The only thing that might bother people is that the violet/orange color combo is really more of a blue/orange, but coming from Chicago, it works for me. GO BEARS!
Great versatile shoe
I actually bought these just for walking (1.5 hours a day with the dog) and my regular Brooks for my daily road running. However, I ended up buying two more pair of the Nike frees and returning my Brooks. The Frees are so much more comfortable for my runs and versatile. I like to run to the gym and lift and these shoes work for both very well.
Only thing I will mention is that they do feel tight at first. I thought I had ordered less than a half size too small, but within a week they broke in and fit perfectly. My first pair almost feel like they are falling off now. But given that, if you are at the top of your shoe size, I'd size up a half. I have narrow feet on the small end of my Isis's so they work perfectly,
Big fan of the Frees and will be sticking with these instead of the Brooks I've been wearing for years.

I am a runner at heart with a gym addiction. I love for my shoes to be able to handle both my road running and my HIIT and lifting at the gym. These are easily the best shoe for such a tall order. I run between 20 and 40 miles a week outdoors depending on our (terribly unpredictable) weather here in Wisconsin. These shoes offer comfort and are extremely lightweight for how supportive they are. The fit is different from my last Free 5.0s in that they are a bit wider at the base and feel about a half size smaller. I've worn them for a week now and the fly ties are living up to their claim of a personalized fit. Every time I lace up I feel ready to rock. These shoes will not disappoint.
Another Great Nike Free w/ Xtra Support
As I approached my Half Marathon, I began wanting a show with a little more support and stability. I love my NikeFree 3.0s for 5ks, my 4.0s for 10k-10mile, and have been really happy with these 5.0s as I finish Half training. The extra durability and support had really made the difference in how my legs feel on the long and taper runs. Great colors, great fabric, well made. I know Nikes aren't for everyone -- but if they're good enough for Forest Gump, they're good enough for me!
Third pair. Still loving this shoe!
I run 30-40 miles per week. Thought I would transition slowly to this shoe. It took about 2 month. Much less time than I thought it would. . I am on my third pair. I suffered from plantar facsiatas prior to the switch. Now no foot pain or injury. Shoe feels great and I can wear in all weather all terrain and plan on wearing them for my next marathon.
Love My Nikes!
Love these nikes. I own an older pair of Nike Free v.5, and I really wanted another pair just like them, but I can't find them anywhere now. I settled for the updated version since they were at a great price. Love these too, just think the older ones are a little cuter with the diamond shape cutouts around the heel.

Fast, sleek, and nicely cushioned
My favorite running shoe by far. I run between 80-90 miles a week and this shoe is perfect for a lightweight trainer. It has lots more cushioning than the 3.0 and 4.0 versions but not too much to give it heaviness. It also has a wide toe box which has helped in my problems with hallucis rigidis and posterior tibial tendonitis.

Great shoes; try on before purchasing
Recently bought 3 pair online buying 1/2 size up as recommended! I have a high arch; couldn't get into shoe. Returned shoes; waited almost 1 month to receive credit! Recently in Chicago; purchased 2 pair same shoes! The store associate was so helpful. He recommended 1 size up in order to accommodate high arch. He also mentioned the shoe runs small. His advice was exactly what I needed.

I love Nike again
I wore Nike for 20 years and then they started changing up the fit, and I moved away 6 or so years ago. These shoes are awesome! Light weight yet provide support. Love the stretch in the lacing. I have a very high instep and always have issues lacing my shoes with the proper tension. This has solved that problem. Love these shoes

I run 20 - 25 miles a week on packed dirt trails. I have high arches and a forefoot strike, and these shoes are flexible enough to absorb the shock that goes with my running style. They do run about 1/2 size small lengthwise. Said goodbye to orthotics and hello to natural running.
I would definitely get another pair
I use my Nike 5.0 to workout at home and to go running outside and I absolutely love them! Although I wish I would've gotten a half size bigger because they're a little too tight but not to the point to where they hurt me. But I'm absolutely in love with these shoes.
In love with these!
I love these running shoes!!! They are extremely comfortable and light weight. I'm a runner and these are durable and keep my feet moving. The color variety is great too! I recommend these to any runner and to anyone that needs comfortable walking shoes. Love these!!
I love these shoes! I attend a ladies boot camp four times a week. We do cardio, light weights, strength training and some running. These are my go to shoes! Light weight for tire runs, jump squats and jump rope. I have four pairs - different colors - because I love them so much!
Comfy, all-day walking around shoe
I love this shoe as a casual 'fashion accessory' - color selection is fantastic! It's great for walking, all-day wear. No need for socks - extremely comfortable, breathable, supportive, but not binding. My feet smile when I put these on!
Kitty the 'Gym Rat'
I will NEVER wear any other running shoe
Even with orthotics my feet would bother me at the end of the day. Since I found the NIKE Free I can do my job, work out and I forget I even have feet, because there is no more pain or discomfort. I threw my orthotics in a drawer.
Kam cross fit for life
Thought I would give Nike a try after many years in another brand... They did not disappoint for sure! These fit great, so comfortable and well cushioned for running. Love the minimalist like platform. Will definately get another pair!
Run a bit short in the toe box
These run a bit smaller in the toe box than the previous model, so order at least a half size larger. I ordered these in the same size as the Nike Free 3's that I had and have to send them back. Everything else is great about this shoe.
I use these shoes as everyday walking shoes. I usually have to special order narrow width but with these shoes and the way the lacing is done allows many different feet to fit. They are lightweight and stylish.

Decent light weight running shoe
I bought these after being somewhat disappointed with the Free Run 3 I got last year. The 5 is more comfortable for longer runs for me.
They are fairly light weight. And have more cushioning than the 3.
Nike Free 5.0 "Shield"
Utilize this particular pair for work (10 hour days); very comfortable, but sometimes the "shield"fabric makes a noise as it is stiffer than the other components of the shoe--overall, very comfortable!

LOve THiS ShOe!
I've never had so many compliments for a shoe from both men and women! Very comfy too. I work on my feet on a concrete floor and it does the job. I am vain so I must look good for work! :)
I own 9 pairs of this shoe - it's GREAT!
I wear this shoe for all-day-in-the-gym (I am a personal trainer) and for running. I love how light it is and it is comfortable. It is pretty cool in the summer, too.
Light and comfy.
I teach P.E. and wear lot's of athletic shoes. My students love these as do I. Comfy, great for my line of work, but would not run in them as I need more cushioning and support.
love them but had to get 1 full size up
This shoes is amazing. I haven't purchased the Nike free for a long time. So happy to be back running in this shoe. I will wear them for the Yakima River Canyon Marathon.
Purchased these for my teenage daughter about to start outdoor track season. She LOVES them! Comfortable from day 1, very lightweight!
Cautious Mom Shopper
Great shoes! I love it!
I wear it at the gym. It's super comfortable and light. It's wonderful. I hope can buy one more pair with different color.
These shoes have provided me with good support and a comfortable fit while I lift in the gym as well as run outside.
Great Nike Shoe
Love the shoe & have been wearing this shoe for few years. Traction not the best in rain/ice/snow
