I've had the Distance S for a little over a month and have now been able to log some more significant speed work and tempo runs in them. I've loving them more with every run. As Newton recommends, it will benefit you greatly to slowly transition even if you have been running in a lower drop shoe. I had run up to a half-marathon in the Kinvara (4mm drop) and the Newtons still took a solid couple weeks of 1-2 mile runs to adjust. I definitely think they help promote a more mid-foot/forefoot strike, but if you are a known heel-striker and have no intention of changing your running style, this is not the shoe for you. The heel of the Distance S is basically exposed foam, so it will get dirty and wear quickly if there is any significant contact with your heel. This shoe is FAST which is perfect for me since I intend to use it for speed & tempo workouts. I am already looking to buy the Motion for my long runs and easy workouts, since that model has rubber underneath the heel and will provide some additionaly protection when my footstrike gets a little lazy.
Love my Newtons
I've run in Nike, Brooks and Asics. I loved my Asics, but I found my go-to shoe in Newton. Tried the Motion first and now the Distance. What I can't figure out is why the Motion is so much more expensive, so I'll stay with Distance and save some money.
I have always run in 'stability control' shoes but am reading more now about how we maybe shouldn't be trying to correct our natural stride. Who knows. It's like coffee... one report says it's bad, another says it's fine.
Anyway, I had a new PR in the Chicago Marathon last fall with my Newtons and love them just as much in my triathlon races. Buy yourself a pair of 'Yankz' and replace the laces that come with the shoes for quick on/off and no worrying about your laces coming untied.

I've been an advocate of Newtons for years, specifically the S trainers. I've been able to use them for any pace, from recovery runs to speed work. This update is hands down the best yet. They brought back the quality of previous models and blended it with the lower profile of last year, the upper is amazing. Color shouldn't matter, but the red is a nice change from the bright yellow. If you're looking for an all around shoe that can handle any pace, give em' a try. If you've never worn Newtons, just give them some time before you make your own judgment call. They work for me.
Great Running Shoes
These are great for runners who strike flat footed. It seems like those who run on their toes or heel first may a bit uncomfortable. But for a mid-foot strike, they're perfect. Great cushion, lightweigh. Take some getting used to, i.e. running a mile or two a few times a week for a few weeks, but after that, they're excellent.

If you're not used to running on the balls of your feet, Newton shoes take a little getting used to. That being said, running in this shoe has allowed get out of the habit of running heel to toe, increasing my turnover time, thereby increasing my split times. Comfortable on short or long runs, true to size, and lightweight. I have found my new favorite...
Look mom, Ronald McDonald designed these
First pair of Newtons and find these shoes very fast. The lady that helped me in the store swears that I am a size 13 which is a half size larger than I have ever bought. I have only run in these shoes five times and nothing longer than four miles, but I find myself running faster than normal in these by about :20 a mile.

not for everyone
Road running/gym use. These shoes encourage you to run on the balls of your feet and not heal strike. It takes some getting used to in that you may have to change your running gate. Not for everyone. I like them for my runs. I do not run more than a 5K at a time.
Marathon speed for sure!
I love these shoes. I've done about 40 marathons and my fastest times have been in Newton's. I love the feel and responsiveness of the shoe. Only negative at all is that Newton's are not the most durable shoe.
