Features & Benefits:
4-Lug forefoot Action Reaction with articulated lugs
I have enjoyed running in Newtons. This is my first pair and I have had them for 4 months, running about 2-3 times per week (6-12 miles per week). I did put inserts in (from RR Sports), which cause some discomfort on the tops of my feet when the shoes are laced.
I use them for both road and trail running. I found that these shoes caused me to slip on wet roads. I wore them once on snowy/icy sidewalks, and had to walk (and carefully). The shoes provided no traction when running in these conditions.
They have also developed holes where my big toe hits at the front top of the shoe. Even though there is a reinforcement there, it isn't a large enough area (see photo). I would not want to size down a half size, either...nor am I sure that doing so would have prevented this. The hole happened due to running down hills.
For the amount they cost, I had hoped that these would be holding up longer than they are. I would recommend the brand Newton, but with reservations about their durability and longevity.
Great trial shoes but don't drain well
These shoes are great for rocky, rooty, muddy trails. The Newton lugs provide extra protection from rocks. The traction of the Boca AT is an improvement over the Terra Momentum. The only cons are that they do not drain well and they are hot because the upper material is not typical mesh. The shoes stay wet and sloshy for a long time after a stream crossing, which is really annoying in a race. I wish Road Runner Sports carried the Boca Sol because it looks like they would drain better.
I've been running in Newton Gravities for a few years and I love them, but I avoided running on gravel or trails because little pieces of gravel would get stuck in the lugs and it drove me nuts. I read tons of reviews online for the Newton BoCo AT's and decided to give them a try. I love them. I now do my long Saturday runs on the trails. These aren't my main running shoes, but they're really nice to add to the rotation. I also think these will be perfect in the snow.
Finally! A real trail shoe from Newton
I only run in Newtons and love them. Until now, I wore Momentums for trail running, but they lacked the traction needed for more technical trails. The Boco has the lugs of a real trail shoe and provides much better traction. I also find the toe box to be just right: comfortably roomy, not too wide. This is the trail shoe I was waiting for!
I am on my 3rd Boco AT's and all 3 have developed holes where the big toe is. The latest shoe I have had for a week and already showing signs of holes starting. I love the shoe and how it feels. I just don't like the holes! Only shoe that has done this and I have been in Newtons for years!
Doesn't feel like a Newton
I've been running in Newtons for three years, and recently have added off-road running to my repertoire. This shoe doesn't feel like a Newton to me. Very stiff and no lugs to force the turn over that I've become used to.
