Good Energy / Great Taste

5

I've been training for a marathon since January and have been bringing a couple of the Vanilla Powerbar Power Gel packs with me on each of my long runs. I've found that this product works best for me above all others because the consistency of the product is a lot less viscous and less thick than the other brands. It takes A LOT less fluid to wash the Powerbar Power Gel pack down and it doesn't sit in my stomach like a rock. I've used other brands and they have a tendency to give me an upset stomach, which is a total pain (no pun intended) when running 10+ miles. To the contrary the Powerbar product DOESN'T. Each of these little guys give me the energy boost that I need mid-run to make it all the way through to the end. Bottom line: The Powerbar Power Gel packs taste great, go down easy, and provide the energy supplement I need to get to my goal.

Goes down smooth and works great!

I started buying these gels before my first half-marathon. "Slurp down the contents every 45 minutes or so", I was told, "and follow it up with some water". And it worked like a charm, giving me that boost to keep going every 5 or 6 miles. Since then I've run my first marathon, and practiced using the gels during my training runs. That time I carried 4 gels pinned to the inside of my shorts, which I found wasn't very convenient, especially when wearing gloves. So you'll have to find a way to carry a few that works best for you - maybe a gel pack, or shorts with a big-enough pocket. So train with them and carry them - these gels work!

Better than GU

4

When I run the 2010 NYC Marathon, I had to stop at Mile 23 for severe cramps. The medical team gave me plain salt and it really helped! I was able to finish the marathon (my first) in less than 5 hours. So sodium matters and Powerbar has 200mg of it compared to just 50mg on the GU (which was what I used during the marathon). Powerbar also has more carbs, more potassium and more content (41g vs 32g) and is less guey so its easier to swallow. It has however twice the sugar than GU (the sole reason I chose GU over Powerbar before). But I realize now that, sodium and carbs are the more important components in distance running so I've been using Powerbar since. I highly recommend this. Strawberry Banana tastes best!

Powerbar Power Gel = Elite Womens Start

5

I use this gel in training and in competition. I recently became a masters female racer. I believe in taking care of all parts of your running - training, recovery, sleep, nutrition and hydration. Mess up one part and you'll fall short. Take care of all parts and you reach your dreams. Race with powergel. Train with powergel. Repeat for about 20 years and make the all womens start at Boston at age 40! Dare to dream! Oh, and it only works if you are a woman.

Great for long runs/bike rides

5

I have used this product when out on long mountian and road bike rides. Getting this stuff into my system helps prevent cramping for me and I notice a significant difference in energy. I highly recommend these for anyone who goes our for long exercise sessions.

Best tasting gels...for me.

4

The PowerBar gels are the best tasting and textured I've used. I've tried the Hammer, GU, and others. They've got carbs and electrolytes and it's not a huge volume of gel. It's smooth and tastes pretty good (relatively). I've tried the vanilla, strawberry-banana, and tangerine. I've liked all of them.

This one works

4

I have tried other gels before, and was not impressed. This one has noticeable energy boost a few minutes after taking. I haven't had a gel that I love the taste, this one is alright. Used it for a half marathon, and it kept me going.

Fast, Safe, Tough Workout Friendly

5

This is a great energy boost after a long day of work or early in the morning for the person that doesn't like to workout on a full stomach. A tasty treat to boost your workout - take one, and you are good to run the Nike+ Lance Armstrong Endurance Workout without fail....AWESOME!

Fantastic tasting product

5

I absolutely love the chocolate Power Gel. I think it tastes just like pudding and the density is similar to pudding which appeals to me; however, after about 3 hours of running I usually switch over to a different flavor like strawberry banana because it's not as thick. The more hours I'm running the harder it is to take in nutrition. This product, however, is just tasty as a dessert and I can almost feel the actual energy blast I get from them.

Great price & selection

4

It's hard to differentiate Powergel from the other gels on performance, but the RRS price is outstanding and the Powergel works as well as anything else I've tried. One thing I would comment on is the consistency: it's runny and that makes it easier to spill on my hands and face - not so fun.

Energy!

5

I use this 15 mins before I run, after the first 45 minutes, then every 35 mins or so. It gives me energy but I feel stable and dont crash. It tastes fine. I do the caffeine version and that has kept me on track -- 18 miles and counting.

4

I used these while training for my first marathon. It was my first experience with gels. It took awhile for my stomach to get used to them and they would cause my stomach to get upset on some long runs (18+ miles). The vanilla was my favorite and was easier on my stomach. I squirt some in my mouth over the course of half a mile to a mile instead of taking it all at once. I did not take them during the marathon for fear of stomach problems and I hit the wall hard and just missed breaking 3 hours by 21 seconds. I think if I had taken some it would have made a difference. I got too empty and my body was drained. Just experiment with them and see what works best for you.

Best energy gels

5

I've tried just about every brand of energy gel. These are by far the most effective. However, the tangerine tastes like medicine. I suggest buying the other citrus flavors.

Love it!

5

I use the product before my early morning workouts and in the middle of my triathlons. I love that I don't need water immediately after taking the goo to wash it down. It also has a good consistency and hasn't ever upset my stomach.

I love these gels. I've tryed other products that I think are harder to swallow. I prefer the vanilla. I think the stronger flavors are a little harder to get down while running.

Thinner consistency and great flavor

5

I usually take one about ten minutes before and roughly every 4-5 miles thereafter. I prefer this flavor over others because it is not super sweet. Yes it does have that artificial sweetener flavor, but the coffee flavor dumbs it down a bit. This variety is also much thinner (less viscous) and goes down easier. I still take with water when I can. Also, it is not gritty like other flavors and brands that I've tried. This is my second box I have ordered and will keep coming back- because it works for me. Numbers and stats cannot make the decision, you just need to e experiment a little and see what works.

thinner consistency than GU gels, so maybe easier to digest for some people during a run. Orange flavor tastes good, although 24 of the same flavor was a little repetitive.

1

These things are awful! I bought some to try because the half marathon I am running is having these on course. I tried the vanilla and it couldn't have a more artificial, chemical-like vanilla taste. I could barely choke it down. I have used GU in the past and will continue using those and will take my own GU along for the half marathon. The only thing that people may prefer is the thinner consistency of PowerBar gel over GU. That would be your own preference. Taste wise, nothing beats GU!

The only gel I can eat!

5

This is the second box I've purchased. I read the reviews before purchasing that this product is pretty easy to eat during a work out and decided to take a chance. I usually CANNOT eat gels, chews, etc. without nausea, gagging, stomach ache, you name it. I CAN eat this one and have used 2-3 during long work outs without a stomach ache or heartburn. (10-12 mile runs)The product is thin and more like a drink than a gel. The flavor is mild. I can consume it quickly, wash it down with water, and keep going.

I recently ran a full and used these on the course as well as on my long runs. I tried several flavors as well as several other gels and preferred these over all the others. The Tangerine had a great taste, broke down very quickly for me compared to the other gels, and had the intended effect. Good product!

I'm recently completed my first 1/2 marathon with my first full less than two weeks away. I've used these on a few long runs as well as during my 1/2 marathon, they work but I have also had a hard time getting them down and had some digestive issues after taking them (burping, stomach knots). I can't seem to find the right mixture of water to gel but they do work.

Love the chocolate flavor - I got nauseated trying to down some of the fruit flavors. The chocolate one is like eating chocolate frosting - not too slimy like the fruit flavors. I eat one about 30 minutes before my long run and one in the middle of it. My stomach tolerates it well.

I was using GU, but tried these when they were handed out in the package at my last 1/2 marathon. I won't be going back to GU - the consistency of powerbar is a lot smoother, and the extra sodium is a huge bonus if you don't want to upset your stomach by mixing gels & sports drink. Recommended!

I've tried GU, Clif Shots and Accel Gel and Power Gels are my favorite. The consistency is superior and less viscous than the competition. The added caffeine is a plus too. I use them on all my long runs and marathons. They're easy to swallow when you're breathing heavy and easy on the stomach too. Try the Stawberry Banana.

The 4X sodium is exactly what I need. I think they taste salty, but other than that I like them alot. Gives me considerably more energy, and I use fewer of them than regular GU. I find that these have the exact same consistancy of GU, which isn't a bad thing per se, but I do find them a little tough to swallow while deep into a long run and the last thing I want is a mouthful of coffee flavored mucus. Plain energy is the only flavor that I'd recommend out of the powerbar brand gels, and its the best tasting of any gel that I have tried.

Everyone seems to have their 'favorite' flavors on these gels - or at those that are at least palatable, but I found the rasberry cream is actually pretty good as far as taste goes; and PowerGEL is as good as GU or any of the others as a quick energy source on those long runs. I used to use the GU, but I've switched...
