I recommend going up one size from your usual pants/jeans size. The fabric is somewhat stretchy, but not as much as I thought. The waistband certainly doesn't stretch as much as normal underwear.

I wear a 33 waist in jeans, and size M for this pair of shorts really constricts despite the size chart saying M = 34.
