I've had IT band issues ...

5

I've had IT band issues when running the last 2 marathons, so I thought I would give this a try. I am extremely impressed and surprised how well it worked. Just ran my last marathon 2 days ago and it did a great job keeping the pain away. I didn't put it on during the marathon until after the pain started and it instantly fixed the problem. One issue i had was it slipped a bit from the sweat, but that was after about 9-10 miles. I readjusted twice and was good to go.

Pro-Tech IT Band saved me

5

I just had to add my 2 cents for this product. I started experiencing IT band issues a couple weeks before my 1/2 ironman that I trained for 6 months for. I tried everything (stretching, massage and a knee brace) but noting seemed to stop it. I got to the point where I could only run 3 miles from regularly running 13. I found this band from doing a little research online and decided to give it a shot. With less than a week till my race I had no way of fully testing it until race day. I was expecting to go into the run with pain and have to walk. I finished my run pain free and only a little slower than my average 1/2 marathon pace (mainly because I didn't want to push it too much). This band saved my race and I have to give it 5 stars!!

Stretch, Strengthen, and Wrap

4

I've been running for a little while now with no serious pain or injury. 10 days ago I was doing a 10 mile run on a hilly course, and for the last 2 miles I started getting a super tight feeling on the outside of my knee. I just figured it was normal stress/soreness that I get on some of my long runs from time to time. This was different however. The pain was bad enough where I had to limp up and down stairs, and it didn't fade by the next morning as most of my post run soreness does. This hurt! And the pain was up on the side of my hip by the next morning as well. I did some research online, and it seemed as though I had stumbled upon a textbook IT Band issue. I have a 10K coming up this weekend (2 weeks after the IT pain started), so I did all the research I could. I realized that I was falling out of my good stride form on hills (particularly steep downhills), and I believe that, along with weak hip and butt muscles caused my issue. I started a regimen of stretching, strengthening, and ice. I went out to run a 4 miler after three days of rest, really focusing on my stride on hills. By the last half mile I started feeling that tightness and pain again with the IT on the side of the knee. I continued my strengthening and stretching, but I wanted to make sure I was going to be good to run this 10K. I decided to give this wrap a try. Now, I don't know if it's because of my stretching, strengthening, being diligent with my stride, or if it's the wrap, or a combination of all these (which it probably is), but I have now run two 5 milers with wrap in place with no pain, and barely a hint of tightness from my IT. I don't believe this will cure an IT issue, but I do believe that it will help alleviate the pain and stress on the IT Band as you continue to heal, run properly, stretch, and strengthen. I'll be using it until my IT is 100% back to normal, and may just continue using it on my longer runs as just a back up measure. Just thought I'd share my story in case anyone ends up in the same boat as me.

Great Product

Have suffered from IT band pain for 3 months. Following 2 months of physical therapy and prescription anti-inflamitories from Sports Med Doc, I still couldn't run. Based on reviews, I decided to try this product. It's a miracle! Ran 3 mile day one without pain. Tried 4 miles two days latter with same result. The following week did 16 miles and still am pain free. It chaffs alittle, but that pain is nothing compared to IT Band pain. Would highly recomend.

Solved a minor IT band problem

5

I purchased this wrap after a day in high heels killed my next day 20 mile run at mile 15. Had to stop and stretch my IT band every 1/2 mile until mile 18 and then just stopped. This strap works great for my IT band pain. It's easy to use and stays put both on my skin with shorts or over long running tights.

I ended up with ...

5

I ended up with *terrible* IT band problems, to the extent that when I finally gave up and stopped running, I could barely walk without crying. My PT recommended I wear the strap during the day, to keep the pain under some level of control while I did the whole resting/stretching/strengthening recovery process. It was *miraculous* for me--in other words, I was not in mortal agony all the time. Now, five months later, I'm running again. The only real way to stop IT band problems is resting and heavy-duty stretching (buy yourself a good foam roller), but as far as pain management during recovery goes, this strap is unbeatable.

It really works!

5

I've had IT Band issues for years following various knee surgeries. During a recent half marathon, my left IT Band tightened up and caused major pain in the outer part of my knee. I could barely walk by mile 9 of the race and was limping around for days. After a couple weeks of resting and slowly easing back into running, I read the reviews and decided to buy this wrap for an upcoming relay race. I was amazed at how well it worked! I conquered nearly 18 miles of hilly running with ZERO knee pain! I had no issues with it sliding down my leg (even when worn over running crops) and it was completely comfortable. I am doing exercises and massage therapy to prevent another injury instead of just relying on this wrap, but I will for sure be using it on long runs and races just in case. It is totally worth buying!

So Far So Good

4

I'm still trying to figure out if my injury is an IT band or just the muscle. Based on research it's not supposed to be the IT Band, yet it feels like it's not the muscle but some other tissue, just higher above the knee. The instructions say this belongs 3 inches above the knee which is right where my injury is. Anyway, I was leery of using tape and decided to try this. I like that it has extra material at the pressure point because that seems to do the trick. I won't see it prevents soreness, but I will say that it is decreasing the pain/strain/discomfort I feel, allowing me to climb hills on my bike more confidently. Still testing it but so far, I'm glad I made the purchase.

I agree - miraculous!

4

I have suffered off and on from ITBS, and it flaired up a couple of weeks ago btwn the 11th and 12th mile of a half marathon. I ended up limping most of the last mile. I had another half marathon planned for the following week, and I knew I was risking long lasting damage if I tried to push through the race in pain. I decided to try the band and hope for the best. I REALLY DID NOT EXPECT TO FINISH THE RACE! But not only did I finish the race, but I finished strong and pain free! I agree with others that stretching the IT Band and using a foam roller are very important. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that it did cut into my leg a little. I think I may be on the border line for needing the extra large. It did not slip down though. I would definitely recommend this to anyone with ITBS.

This thing works!

5

I am a runner. I have been running for a little over a year. I developed a pain on the outside of my knee. It got to where I could only run 3 to 4 miles and would not be able to continue because of the pain. I found out it was my IT band. I tried Rocktape and I tried a neoprene type knee brace. Then I came across this Pro-Tec IT band strap. At this point I am desperate to find something to help me run because I am 2 weeks away from a half marathon. So I get my Pro-Tec IT band strap in the mail on a Friday and I put it on the next morning to try it out. The directions were very easy to follow. I RAN 11 MILES PAIN FREE!!! This thing works! I will have it on during the half marathon FOR SURE! Thanks Pro-Tec!!!

I can get back out on the road

5

I am by no means a long-distance runner, however, the issues I have with my IT Band got so bad I could barely complete a mile. Not only was I in pain while running, but in pain the next day just walking. I was truly upset that I may not be able to run. Desparate to find something to help, I ordered the compression wrap. It was not an expensive investment and was worth a shot. I have used the wrap a few times now and am optimistic about the results of this product. I did realize the first time I used it that you do have to position it properly. So far I have completed 3 1/2 miles with NO PAIN!!! I'm happy with that.

Worked awesome

5

I have been training for a marathon in October and haven't been able to run past 3 miles with out my it band flaring up for over a month now. I saw this after stretching 3x a day and taking 800 ml 2X a day with hardly any improvement. So I tried it thinking maybe by some chance it might work. I put it on with tight running knickers and so it held it in place and didn't slip when I would sweat. For the first time in a month I ran past 3 miles pain free. I ran 14 miles that day and couldn't believe I had no pain whatsoever! I think the stretching should still be continued, but this at least helps me to still train. Glad I tried this on a whim!

It helps.

4

I figured I'd give it a try. I use it when I'm running in shorts, so quite a bit in NC. It does help to reduce most of the IT-band issue while I run so it's been nice to do some runs with my wife and son(stroller) and not have to say, "I'm sorry but my knee won't let me go any farther!" It's not too hard to get it in the right place and yes you might have to adjust the first time or two but after a few miles when you're not giving up and you notice that you can keep going, it's well worth it! I'm not a big guy and the strap does come in two sizes but the normal one that RR offers was almost too small for my leg so make sure you measure!

It works!

5

I bought this band when I started having some serious IT band issues two weeks before my first half-marathon...and by goly, it worked. I tried it out in a couple very short runs prior to the big event and wasn't sure it did much. On race day I didn't know if I would need it, but took it with me anyway...about mile 8 I was in pain, so I strapped it on. It carried me through to the end. Not sure if it was a mental thing or if it really worked, but I'm sold! Great product. (My Chiropractor did say it may help take some of the tension off of my knee, and it did). If you're not sure, just buy it!

Not just for runners!

5

I've neve been a runner, but I had a dog who--in his prime--demanded 7-10 miles of brisk walking daily. As I aged (I'm pushing 70), apparent arthritis in my right knee has caused recurring bouts of ITB irritation. This product has alleviated the pain and allow the ITB to heal. But it may take time, sometimes as long as 3 months of daily wear before the irritation is gone. Then I may be fine for a year or more before I start having problems again. If I'm quick to recognize the problem and start using the wrap right away, it may only take a week to get things back to normal.

4

It helps to keep my it band issues from flaring up. Even if I am in pain and I wear it I feel like I recover a lot faster than if I did not wear it. It doesnt fix all the problems, it just helps.

Works but doesn't cure

4

This product works. Although depending on how severe the ITB pain is. It only helps relieve the pain from the ITB so you can keep running and or run that big race. It doesn't completely make the pain or discomfort go away. This product is best used while treating and recovering from a ITB issue. I wouldn't recommend using the strap to prevent issues. The strap can be uncomfortable if put on too tight. It can also cause some discomfort or tenderness above the knee where it's applied.

It Works!

5

Stopped running 3 years ago because of a horrible left IT band that physical therapy wasn't helping much. Saw references to this online and really wanted to get back to running races, so I thought I'd try it. IT WORKED! For the first time in years I can run! It's easy to put on, comfortable to wear while running, washable, and really does it's job. Between this handy little band and my foam roller I am back in the game and have 3 races scheduled. :)

My savior!

5

I started experiencing pain in my knee and diagnosed myself with ITBS. I thought I would give this product a try, as I am in training for a half marathon and was only able to rest for one week. Along with shortening my stride, this product helped ease the pain so I was able to continue my training! I also use it to attach an ice pack to my knee after running to reduce any inflamation. It's easy to use and isn't too big on my skinny legs :)

Solved IT Band pain but use with caution

5

Immediately relieved knee pain caused by IT Band injury. Great that could get out running again relatively pain free. First time I used it, it rubbed skin off due to movement of leg and initial placement. Took a few days for that to heal and by using large band aid to prevent further rubbing. It's doing great job and I am almost at point that don't need it anymore.

Works well but isn't a miracle cure

4

This definitely helps and has more effect than a below knee band for IT issues. It's not a cure-all. I still need to do a lot of stretching to make it past 3 miles during a run, even when wearing this. It really helps when my knee aches at work. I'll throw this on and helps. I have to wear mine fairly snug/tight or it slides down my leg
