I can hardly believe this shoe is sold as a "Trail" shoe. It lacks stability and protection, I badly twisted my foot on a very small trail bump while wearing these shoes and I rarely have such mishaps. It has a sole that is narrower and less stable than some of my road shoes and it offers no more protection or stability on a gravel road than my Gel Speedsters. It's a good lightweight trainer, and for that reason I will go easy and give it three stars, but IMO much better suited for well paved roads and sidewalks. If you want a stable trail shoe go with Asics 2150 or Trail Sensor or maybe the Adidas Adizero or Riot. I like Pearl Izumi bike clothing, but they still have a lot to learn about making a good trail shoe Was this really picked by Outside Magazine as their Editors Choice for a trail shoe? Hard to believe.

I use these for cross training and find them to be really comfortable to the point that I enjoy wearing them outside of the gym. I wear an 11.5 in my Adidas running shoes but needed a 12 in these, so you might want to round up as well.

Great shoe. Not a lot of cushioning like a Nimbus or Pro Grid Ride but a great shoe to alternate with. The upper is as comfortable as I have ever worn. I have a wide foot (2e) and this shoe works for me. I am going to try another neutral style to see how they work.

I liked these shoes at first. Light, flexible, and great traction on the trails. But they just aren't for me. I made sure I ordered a full size up, but the shoes are just a little too wide for my liking, and my foot feels like it's slipping around in there. Not a feeling you want on the trails. I will probably still use these on short trail runs (less than 10 miles), but nothing longer, and not in any races.

Excellent - I used these for the 2008 Pikes Peak Ascent and they stood up well to the varying trail conditions and the bad weather.

This shoe feel really great. It does feel like a road shoe but has sufficient traction for the trails, plus a nice low profile. The cushioning is great, but it's not quite supportive enough for my 20-30k trail races. Size up a full size - I wear 8.5 - 9's and the 9.5 is a snug accurate fit.

As the previous review states, this shoe runs small, and a half to full size up is needed--first time for me in a Pearl...runs more like a racing shoe, very cushioned, and light

These would have gotten five stars if PI didn't keep their shoe last consistent. I have worn the Vitals and Synchro Guides for many years with a clear size ten. A ten in these jams my toes. I needed a full size up.

Awesome shoe, lightweight, very responsive and flexible. This is mt favorite race shoe now. I think it feels a bit more like a road shoe than a trial shoe though, not very much protection, but it's got a very fast and comfortable feel.
