Ok, I have searched high and low for longer running shorts for taller, athletic gals like myself. I am 5 ft 10 in and 165 lbs. and the large fit me perfectly. XL was way too big...bunching around the top after pulling draw string in. My waist is like 32/33 if that helps anyone.
I like the length and the zipper pocket in the back. The zipper pocket could be bigger. It will only hold like a key and maybe two GU gels.
I have been searching for longer running shorts at many stores and these may well be the ones I run in for my first marathon at the end of April.
My only suggestion is that zipper pocket be a bit bigger or add a zipper pocket on side and that they make these shorts in different colors as well as in 8in and 9 in lengths as well. I would buy them all.
Kudos to Victoria at Atlanta store as well. She held sizes so I could try on and see the fit. Very helpful on phone and in store.
I love my RRS running skorts and capris but wanted shorts that were as comfortable. After trying several pairs at shorter lengths (4" and 5") that rode up and were generally uncomfortable for my training runs, I was about to give up on shorts until I discovered these. They are awesome! Very comfortable - the fabric stays in place and I have no issues with chafing, the fabric getting wacky or any other discomfort. They're longer than most running shorts but still hit well above the knee. The fabric is lightweight but sturdy and the cut of the shorts is very flattering. I have already ordered a second pair.
Great length, bulky waist tie
These shorts are great for us runners with imperfect thighs. They never ride up, and are long enough to eliminate chaffing. I wear mine nice and loose, and am never self-conscious about any jiggle. My only complaint is the elastic waist band tie - it's bulky and sticks out, which isn't flattering. Otherwise, these are the best shorts I've found! Hope they come out in more colors.
Plenty of ease around the waist
I wanted a pair of shorts that was not too tight around the waist and didn't crop up when I sat down. Elastic is often too tight. I love these shorts. And I love the length. Just right for doing anything.
Jeepers Creepers, Not with these shorts
Like the fit through the hips and upper thigh. The shorts stay in place and don't creep up when running. The shorts also don't fall around the butt when laying down to do crunches, etc.
Dislike the waist bowtie/stretchy strap thing. Would prefer inside tie, or no tie at all.
Enjoying these shorts - seamed crotch
I was looking for a longer running short that would give good coverage to the top of my legs and that wouldn't ride up. After reading the reviews I decided to give these shorts a try. They are extremely attractive on and comfortable. I'm 5'4", weigh 144 lbs, and am not a skinny girl. I was very disappointed that after spending over $30 for these shorts that they had seams in the crotch area and could not be worn for running (or anything else for that matter) without causing some major rubbing and discomfort and without adding some type of panty or tights underneath. After adding the tights, I've ran in them several times...both long (over 5 miles) and short (2 - 3 miles) distances and they work great. They do not ride up, look great, and are comfortable.
Best athletic shorts ever!
I am fairly tall, with a smallish waist but "athletic" thighs, and have long struggled to find flattering, modest running shorts that do not require constant adjustment. In fact, for many years I have been exclusively a skort wearer. These shorts are the ONLY ones I have found that work great for running, cycling and gym - they also look and function great for hiking, the beach, and various water sports. In fact, they work and look better than any of my swim shorts - and dry faster too! They are much lighter weight than any skort, and I can't wait to use them this summer for marathon training. Please don't stop making these, RRS!
Love these shorts!
I love these shorts. They are just the right length and do not bunch up. I like the fabric and the style (slight gathering along side of hips) works great for different types of workouts. I walk at a fast pace and do some strength training classes at the gym--situps and other floor workout exercises. They don't bunch or reveal undergarments. I don't mind the tie in front although it seems unnecessary to me. I like the pocket but it could be slightly bigger. I just ordered two more pair after having my initial pair for a month. I would love to see them offered in a navy color. I did order a small after seeing the size note, I am 5'7" and 140lbs
most comfortable shorts ever!
I am 50 and normally wear a size 12 pant. I ordered a size large in these shorts. They are very comfortable! I did not drop down a size like the add suggested and glad I didn't. I prefer a looser fitting short. I love the wider waistband, it sits very comfortably without the dreaded muffin top. Leg openings are just right for me, as they are not as wide as other shorts out there with this length of inseam. Fabric is very lightweight and a very fine quality. Has some stretch to it but not clingy. The tie is pretty, but kind of bulky. I may remove it depending on the top I wear with it. I highly recommend them!!
My FAVORITE shorts!
I use these shorts to trail run and road run. I normally wear running skirts with compression shorts underneath because I need the movement without chaffing. I have big strong legs and cannot wear regular skimpy running shorts because they always ride up. I was hesitant when my husband bought these for me. I put them on and couldn't believe that they didn't ride up! I wear them as much as possible. I also really like the back pocket. I'm not really crazy about the 'string' but i can live with it. I highly recommend these shorts to my fellow sister athletes, especially those of us with big thighs.
THE BEST RUNNING SHORTS
These are my favorite running shorts because they do not ride up. I ran 6 miles on a really humid day and they didn't ride one bit. I love the length too!! I haven't found any other running shorts that I am happy with. Definitely going to order some more. I am 5'8" and 164 lbs so the length is perfect...not too short, not too long. But I can't stress enough that they do not ride up. They stay in place on both my short and long runs!! Hands down the BEST running shorts I have owned!!! Oh I also love them for the gym because of the length!
I bought these to wear as a casual short around the house......they are so much more than I expected! They are very comfortable the size is true to fit. I recently ran a marathon and threw these in my bag to change into after they were perfect. I prefer a tight short when running but these are great for casual wear. I often wear them when I take the dog out for a walk or riding my bike. I will be buying several more pairs theonly complaint I would have is offer then in more colors! But don't change a thing about these shorts

perfect running shorts
These shorts are perfect for those of us who need more coverage. The 7inch length is perfect. The fit is true to size. I like the zip pocket in the back waist band for gel. I like having a draw string, although the waist band on these shorts is snug and wide.I also like that there isn't an attached liner. I prefer to wear underware. I ordered size medium and they fit great. Not too tight not too loose. I am 5'4" and 130lbs. I have worn them on several long runs, love them! I have 2 pair in black and will order the charcoal. A dark navy would be nice.

Lose the drawstring.
These are the first pair of longer shorts that I have worn that don't ride up on my legs when I am running. They are extremely comfortable, maybe run a tad large. My only complaint is the wide silky drawstring. Didn't bode well for running shorts. I took it out and the shorts are staying on without it. They are my new favorite running shorts. Perfect for us 50+ years olds who want a more conservative fit but not below the knees. Thank you RR for making these shorts. Looking forward to more long styles in the future.
My favorite running shorts!
I run marathons and ultras and these are my go-to shorts for everything-running streets/trails, yoga, the gym, biking, and just running errands. I'm 5'8" average build, 150lbs and the mediums fit perfectly (I originally ordered the large and they were too big). No riding up or bunching and they never feel sweaty or heavy (and I sweat!) Material feels durable but light and the back pocket is perfect for keys or a gel. I have 4 pairs now.
I run 3 miles 3-4 times a week and I have a pear shaped body with bigger thighs. I was looking for a short that wouldn't ride up on runs. I am 5'5 and 145 lbs for reference. I got the medium. And they are just a weird fit. Took them out for a run and they still want to ride up, despite the length. They are snug around the hip/thigh, but loose above the knee and pretty loose at the waist. I was fiddling with them for the entire run. It could just be my body type, but the large would be way too big. These shorts just didn't work quite right.
Finally! More please!
Happy to find a short that is lightweight and dries quickly and is not a 4" seam! NEED MORE COLORS!!!!
Fits nicely on my size 6 and helps hide issues. Unfortunately the waist string on the outside makes a bulge under shirts. Would be better not to have that or put on inside. I turned mine into an elastic banded short and alway wear shirts untucked so you can't notice the empty string holes.
These are an OK design. If you have hips like me, and they are 42 inch hips, these will pull across the hips in the large size. I think XL would be too big, but they are not offered anyway--too bad! So, I sent these back, even if I LOVE the zipper pocket and the shirring on the sides. So, these are constructed for narrower hips, IMHO...TOO BAD. RR Sports, you need to offer more longer inseam shorts (7"+) with zipper pockets for gals with hips, please!
Coverage without the baggage
I usually wear long compression shorts because I have long legs, the look is a bit more classy than short shorts, and the extra compression feels good. I tried these long but no compression shorts and they are just as comfortable but also flattering and more versatile, appropriate for après-run or après-hike activities. Really well designed for fit, form, and function.

The drawstring is a non-starter!
I love these shorts! Unfortunately, the elastic drawstring is bulky and adds 1-1 1/2" to you waist. Since I wanted to keep the shorts, I measured the drawstring to the length I needed, cut it off and sewed it together. I have no drawstring hanging out. They're perfect now! I wanted to keep the shorts but couldn't deal with extra in my waist. Aren't we all at the gym to look smaller???!!
San Angelo, TX
These shorts are not the most flattering I own, but they may be the most comfortable, so I'm going to wear them anyway. I usually have trouble finding shorts that fit my muscular thighs, but I wish these were just a bit slimmer at the knee. I'm 5'4", 115lbs, and an XS is baggy, although my fashion-conscious 9-year-old says that's all the rage these days. ;) An XXS, if there were one, would probably be a better fit.
I use these shorts for running and bike commuting in warm weather. I'm mostly a climber and these would be great for that too - long enough to stay put under a harness. Anyway - I am about 5'3'' 112lb with pretty narrow hips and I need a xs. Small is ok but I like shorts that are slightly tighter than most running shorts. I'd love to be able to buy them in an xs. Please stock more colors and all sizes!!!!
Mostly a climber
LOVE these shorts!
I was looking for shorts that I could wear both running and in the gym; these fit the bill perfectly. They are the first pair of longer shorts that I've run into that don't chafe and ride up during runs. They're also lightweight and comfortable, I've worn them on every run/gym trip since I got them. I'm 5'7" and they hit about 4" above my knee.
The all in one althletic women's shorts
I love these shorts. They simple have ever thing I need to participate in biking, running, tennis, gardening etc. Not to mention they are long enough to stop by the grocery store on the way home from the gym. Best apparel I have ever bought and have since order five more pair. Only wish they came in more colors.
I love the styling of the short with the exception of the waist tie. I pulled mine out and wear without.
I have also had a problem with the width of leg varying from each pair by a half an inch. I own 3 pairs and I've had 2 pr tailored to avoid the culotte look.
The fabric is thin and tends to cling when sweaty but dries quickly.

My New Favorite Shorts
I love these shorts! They are so comfortable. I typically use them as casual wear and not for working out. They are lightweight, flattering and so comfy.
My wish list items would be POCKETS, and to come in more colors. I bought the charcoal and have just ordered the black, but would love them in blue, khaki or any other number of colors too.
Finally - Perfection!
Road Runner, You've perfected the running short for me! I'm definitely getting another pair - just the right amount of coverage, zero ride-up, look great, feel great - THANK YOU!!!!!
I'm an avid runner and have always had trouble with what (affectionately?) call -chub rub. I've used these for running & crossfit -they're amazing!
These shorts are awesome! I ran in them for the first time today and all I can say is WOW! These shorts are very comfortable and lightweight. They stay in place and don't ride up. I now don't have to spend time pulling my shorts down while running. I felt great while running. They only downfall is there's not enough colors. If there wasI would buy them all!
LOVE these shorts!
I'm 5' 9" and have muscular thighs so shorts typically have the dreaded creep factor, requiring me to tug and pull at them during my runs to avoid being obscene. These shorts don't bunch up, and they don't creep down on my hips, either. I also wear them for weightlifting and bootcamp. PERFECT. They stay right where you want them.
Larger than Size Chart Indicates
Based on the sizing chart and my current measurements, I should've worn a L, but the L were much too big, more like an XL in other brands. I also ordered the lacy, reversible R-Gear running shorts in size L, and those fit perfectly, so there's a definite sizing discrepancy among different styles in this line. If you're unsure of which size to get, definitely size down.
