Men's ROAD RUNNER SPORTS HIGH FIVE 5" SHORT :: A high-caliber running short for the true runner, you'll wonder how you ever lived without the Men's Road Runner Sports High Five 5" Short. Features inner brief liner, breathable back panel, side pocket, back zip pocket, inner pocket, non-chafing waistband and 360º reflectivity. 5" inseam
I have two specific criteria in my running and workout shorts: they need to be light, and they must have at least one pocket that will hold an ID card. These shorts meet those criteria, and they go above and beyond. For example, there are actually 3 pockets, two on the sides and one in the middle back. All three have secure closures, which gives a sense of security. The pockets seem oddly-placed at first, until you actually put something in them; then you realize they are designed to keep stuff out of the way of your running stride!
The only downside is that they run small. If you are between sizes, order the larger size. I am a medium-large on most things, and I would NOT wear the medium in public! (Good thing I ordered the large size...)
I've done a lot of research on running shorts because I'm very particular; these shorts are the best value for the money, for my specific needs.

Great quality, but they run small
Construction is great. Nice zippered pocket on the back, plus a small "flap pocket" inside the waistband. Perfect for locker key/ID card. Fabric is nice. Graphics/reflective strips great. Problem is these run small. If you've ever bought clothes in Europe, you know what I'm talking about. Things marked "XL" are really an "American L." If you're at the top of the size you wear, i.e. an XL "Fits just right" then you need to buy the next biggest size on these shorts. The liner is TIGHT; that's the majority of the problem. Additionally, the short itself is small. Again, no problem w/the construction/style. They just run small.

Excellent Runner's Shorts
These are excellent runner's shorts. They fit well, and have a supportive brief built-in (that prevents thigh chafing). They have thoughtful details such as a gel/mp3 player pocket, key pocket, and velcro-closing slash side pockets. I haven't had them long enough to judge their durability, but they seem well made with double stitching at stress points, flat seams. They look nice too.
These are shorts designed for runners by runners. They are NOT gym/weightlifting/volleyball/swimming trunks.
About me: runner for 30 years, 24 miles per week. Next race- half marathon in December.

Comfortable & Good Value
These shorts fit well and have a nice feel to them. They are perfect for traveling since they dry very quickly. My one complaint is the backward pockets. I used these during a half-marathon to carry gel packs. Getting the gel packs out required me to reach around with my opposite hand to open the Velcro and remove the packs. This was a very awkward process and pretty much impossible to do without stopping. Previous versions of these shorts had forward facing (and unsecured) pockets. Those were much easier to extract things from while on the run.

Comfort, looks and practicality
I love these shorts! I have always worn shorter running shorts for freedom of movement and for quick drying and was a bit leery of choosing this longer short, but this garment has been a pleasant surprise. They look great for a more modest look (I live in a conservative Asian city) without restricting movement. They are light and comfortable and the inner liner fits perfectly. The little zip pocket is perfectly located and handy. I wear them mostly for running and occasionally for my gym workouts.

I keep buying these shorts
I find that these shorts are very comfortable for 1-2 hour runs in 80-100 degree weather. I use them exclusively for my running training, and I plan to wear them for the 2010 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. These 5" shorts may be "too short" for some people, but they are perfect for me. I like that my quads are halfway visible while running. I'm proud of those muscles, and I might as well show them off!
A great all temp pair of running shorts
Very good construction with plenty of secure storage for gel, iPod, etc. This is going to be my go to pair of shorts for longer runs when I need to carry some things with me. They are very light and comfortable. They breath well and are very well made. I am buying a couple more pairs of these.

Great Short, Great Price!
I put 9 miles on these as soon as I got them, and they are great. It was quite humid on the days I ran, and these did a great job of wicking the sweat away. Love the pockets, and the inner brief. Fits true to size. I'm 6'3, 184 and they were none too small. Great short, will be ordering another pair!
Great short, but watch the side pockets!
The side pockets are ingenious -- they are perfectly placed so stuff doesn't bounce around when you run. HOWEVER, the hook/loop closure on the side pockets doesn't run the entire length of the pocket, so little things like car keys have a tendency to jump out of them! (Yes, this happened to me on trail run. I was totally lucky to have someone find my key!) I use little resealable plastic bags to hold my driver's license, one credit card, and a couple of bills, and it fits perfectly in the side pocket without sneaking out. The car key now goes in the backside zip pocket, and it stays where it should!

True running shorts
I usually buy cheaper running shorts, but this time I thought I would spend a little more. Glad I did, these shorts are wonderful, especially design for runners. Love how the side pockets are designed and back middle pocket is perfect for my mp3 player. Seriously thinking about buying another pair.
I love these. I am built a little funny (large glutes and quads) and these fit very well. I sometimes have trouble with "chafing" on the inner thighs, but these fit just right and prevent such friction, without "clinging" to me. I will be ordering other colors.
Excellent running training shorts
Great training shorts. Lightweight, dry quickly and comfortable. They have several convenient small pockets - one on the back with a zipper that is perfect for house/car key, and one on each side with velcro closure for media player etc. This is a big plus, as some other shorts that I considered don't have any pockets.

Good inexpensive shorts
These are good shorts at a great price. My only complaint is that the liner is big, allowing the shorts to ride up higher than I would prefer, making them a little less comfortable. But because of their price I'll probably get another pair at some point in the future.
Great travel runners !
I am always looking for back ups to my Northface shorts, these are better for running but I like the pocket on the back side for wallet rather than in middle...I feel whatever is in there doing sit ups. Also I like the side pockets to zip rather than velcro...so my phone will not fall out !

the best short Ive worn
I think this is the best short Ive worn yet its confortable lightweight and very breathable. I wear it when I run, warm weather, or casual its best for all! I think you should buy it I like it
By far the best running shorts I have ever purchased! Light weight, breathable and soft. The inner liner gives great support and no chafffing. Can't run in anything else now.
Overall sold shorts
I really like the material and the pockets are a nice addition. They are light weight and wick well. The only flaw I noticed is that they started to ride up a bit on my tempo runs. Overall a very good short though.
Great basic short. Fabric wicks well and keeps you cool and dry (as possible). Good movement. Design might be the only con if any. I purchased another one since I liked the first one and the price!
Great running shorts, reasonable price
I have been very happy with these shorts, and just ordered some for my son. They are just as good as Underarmour, but not as expensive. They are just the right length--not too short, not too long.
Nice especially for the price
Great shorts especially for the price. Fit well run a little smaller than nike, Adidas and TNF. But they work. Time will tell quality. But they are half the price as any major brand for a similar short.
San Mateo, CA
At first, I thought these running shorts might be too long and baggy, but I was wrong. They are very comfortable and I hardly notice them while I'm running in the early mornings.
Better than ever!
Wow! I bought these last year and thought that they were great! I didn't think they could get any better, but I was wrong. The fabric is super light weight. Purchasing more today!
What happened to the side pockets
I have four pair of what I believe were the same shorts that I got a year or so ago. They used to have pockets on the side along with the zip pocket in the back. The rear zip pocket is great but I miss the side pockets.
Great fit and feel. Love the pocket.
Runs are great in the shorts. Protective reflection in early morning darkness is a great safety factor. Love the rear pocket for my cell phone. I have 3 of them.

I have four pair and they are certainly functional running shorts. I'm 6'1" 180 lbs and a medium fits well. This version has a better waiste band than previous, which tended to slip down after getting wet from sweat on long runs. The older version had a softer nylon, so didn't chafe as much. One thing I noticed about these shorts is they seemed heavy. They really aren't, but compared to most other running shorts I have they seem bulkier. The back pocket has room for a key, but it only has a velcro tab to close and doesn't close the entire opening. My key fell out when walking before a run. Big problem as I didn't hear the key fall out. Wouldn't take much to have the velcro close the entire opening. Bottom line, I wouldn't trust the pocket. The other piece is that the shorts have reflective decals. Mine are lifting off after two machine washes. Fix those two details and I'd give the shorts a 4.
Running shorts for real runners
I love these shorts. The design and the pockets work great for running. I have had this brand in the past and they wear like iron. They out live the other shorts 2 to 1.
Good Workout Shorts
I think it needs a redesign for the pockets. I stick my music in the pockets and these are not deep enough and not easily accessible

Great value and well made shorts
I looked at a lot of different brands (and own other brands) of running shorts and wanted something that was well made and suited to running but not expensive. I bought 2 pair and have been very happy. They have each gone through the wash 2-3 times and still look new. They are light weight but have a good waste band and draw cord which is important if you want to clip something on like a phone or other stuff, zipper pocket in the back and Velcro pockets on the side. The side pockets face to the rear which makes retrieval of gel shots and such easy during a run. I am 6'1", 185 lbs, 32-33 inch waste and the medium fits great. I have only used them in December and January but I'm sure they will work well in the Texas summer as well.
A Running Journey
Great design, but super slow to dry
These shorts are really well designed. Love all the pockets, the length, and freedom of movement.
The material and time-to-dry, however, have proven to be sub par. I wash and hang these shorts in a well ventilated place after every single run, and they continue to stay wet around the waist (where most material is gathered). As a result they've acquired a musty smell that I cannot freakin' get rid of. It's really putting a damper on using these.
I have to think this is a relatively easy issue to fix but is probably not going to happen anytime soon. As a result I can't really recommend (unless you live in an extremely arrid environment).
Great shorts with pockets
As a bicycle commmuter I wear shorts 24/7 so they have to be comfortable. I sleep in them, ride to the gym, swim, wash out the pair i wore the day before in the shower, put on a new pair, dress, go to work, hang out the wet shorts to dry, work, ride home, shower, wash the shorts and put on the dry shorts and then wear them to bed again. I only use shorts with pockets. I have gone from Nike to NB and then tried REI when NB stopped making pockets. REI did not work so picked these up and I love them. Especially zipper pocket in the back. Planning to buy more pairs when my others start wearing out.
