I wore them under a medium thickness pair of tights, and they were great. It was cold enough that my eye lashes were freezing together. Trust me, I've experienced the pain of insufficient protection on cold windy days. If you plan to run through northern winters, you need these. My only complaint was the waste fit great, but the legs were pretty snug. I'm afraid the crotch might tear. I like the briefs better.

The front panel blocks the wind and keeps me adequately warm. The inside is super soft and comfortable. I bought a medium and they are nice and snug like a pair of compression shorts. (I'm 6'1" and 170lbs). The only negative comment I have is the front wind breaking material is a little bulky towards the top, but it doesn't cause any issues or is really noticeable.
