Product RRM460 Review

I had to replace my ...

1

I had to replace my original Cool-Max jocks that I purchased from RRS years ago and bought the Dry-Road Jock and was very, very disappointed. Waistband is not covered (as in the cool max version) leg straps have very little elasticity, there is no pouch whatsoever and the pouch is too long so support is minimal at best. For the first time ever, I experienced testicualar soreness the day after a run due to the lack of support. If you *like* the DryRoad Jock, it's only because you never got to run in the original Cool-Max version. For now it's back to the "Bike" brand that we all grew up with. Would not recommend.

Nice jock, but be careful with the sizes

4

I wanted something to wear under running tights in the cold, to substitute the built in liner I'm used to in running shorts. These are very soft and comfortable. They are not tight like other athletic jocks I've experienced, but offer enough support for what I was looking for. I wear a size 31, but have always worn medium for everything else, so that is what I ordered. Unfortunately, they are too big. So, I suggest you trust their size chart. When I need to replace these, I'll definitely order a small next time. The only thing I don't like about these, as others have mentioned, they sit really high on the waist. I could roll the waist elastic downat least once if not twice, and they would still have sufficient coverage. If they made these jocks in a low rise, they'd be just about perfect.

The right idea for hot climates

I found these through an internet search, after deciding that being soaking wet in cold weather is NOT good. They work great, and freedom of movement is great. I would echo the other reviewers in saying that these would be great as a low-rise. I'm normally a medium, but bought small, due to their comments. I still feel they could be smaller-or lower, and that would also give a bit more support. Since no one offers anything like it, these are the best choice for now

Previous Reviewers Know a good thing

5

I read the reviews before purchasing this and thought I'd give it a go. Very happy with this jock. First jock (without a protective cup) I've worn but this is comfortable. Holds the goods in place so I don't have to wear a brief when all my shorts have liners. (One of my running shorts with a liner doesn't support my goods. This jock solves that problem). Thanks RRS for offering this product. I couldn't find a similar jock elsewhere.

Great depending on circumstances

5

As a soccer referee, this jock suits my purposes perfectly as I would think they would for anybody who intends to wear it as a base layer under compression shorts. It works well for tennis, basketball and running as well. I would have some trepidation about wearing it alone under running shorts, but if you generally go commando anyway and just want something else between you and the street, this would be just fine.

Good Support!

5

I decided to try this product in conjuction with my full and 3/4 split running shorts, which all have a liner brief attached. I sometimes find that the liners don't provide the supportive confort for long runs. So far, the ROADDRY jock has been supportive. I've also taken these with me while traveling. A lower rise could be nice.

Very comfortable and durable

5

Very comfortable and lightweight. Also unlike prior athletic supporters I have bought they do not shrink a lot. Also, they are very well made compared to some athletic supporters where I have actually had the rubber bands in the supporters come loose after washing. These are very good quality and very comfortable.

4

I have two pairs of your coolmax running jocks that have to be way more than 10 years old. They are just holding on by the thread (in fact I've had to knot one of them because the elasticity was shot). But they were the best jocks anywhere and I haven't been able to find anything like them - and you've been out of stock of these for a while. Reading the reviews it seems some guys are finding the later model not as effective as the old model (presumably the one I have). Hope you bring these back like the old ones - and soon!

Comfortable Support

5

The thin waist band and leg straps are a major factor in the fit of this jock. The support pocket does not have any rubber in it that may cause rubbing to the body. In preparing for this upcoming Marathon, I do not have to apply vaseline to that part of my body.

It Is Not Time To Hang This Jock Up

This athletic supporter is very good quality. I have bought some in the past that lose elasticity quickly or even the rubber bands in the supporter start coming apart. This is a very good supporter for running especially.

3

Make sure you buy this a size smaller than usual. This is a vertically long/tall jock strap. The pouch and leg straps are too long. I normally would buy a medium (I have a 35" waist)but had to return it and get a small because the sides of the pouch weren't taut and would gape open, unlike every Bike jock I've had. Even with a small size, the pouch is not wide enough down towards the bottom to keep the testicles 100% in the pouch, maybe 85% in. If you fold down the waist band to take up the slack, then it works much better. With that complaint aside, this is a VERY comfortable jock strap. I could hardly tell I had it on while jogging, though I have kept my liners in my running shorts. Same goes for swimming, I didn't even feel it. Can't say that about Bike! The materials are soft, so I have to wonder if they will hold up over time.

I've had several flavors of this RRS product over the years (they seem to change even though you order essentially the same thing). This is probably the best version. Good waistband and better overall construction that before (would stretch out and lose shape).

2

I agree. I bought 4 pair of an earlier version of these and they are great...wear them all the time. These have a longer rise and don't provide as much support. I like the change to the thinner leg straps, but I wouldn't purchase these again due to the long rise as mentioned in another review.

3

Initially, I was very pleased with this jock. I was looking for a light-weight, less binding jock for running and this fit the bill. However, after several months of wear and washing, this jock has lost its shape and, thus, some of the support. I really like the overall concept of this jock, here are some suggestions to improve on it for the future: keep the waistband as is and the light weight material, the pouch needs to be a little bit wider and the legstraps need some elastic in them to hold their shape and not twist. It is very difficult to find a jock for running, so please make the small improvements and keep offering one as part of your inventory.

5

I just ran the Pittsburgh Great Race this weekend. It's a 10k. I typically use vaseline to stop the chaffing. I thought I would give this jock a try. I cut the liner out of my running shorts and wore the RRS Jock and completed the race with a PR and did not chaffe at all. I was really surprised at the support compared to running briefs or liners in shorts and I was surprised at the dryness. I would suggest RRS make a running short with this jock incorporated instead of the liner. From what I understand the liners are present because of US Import laws that allow companies to classify shorts with liners as swim wear and thus avoid tariffs.

Excellent...but too

4

These are fantastic...you hardly know they're there. In my case however, I have a slightly short torso (as determined by multiple professional bike fittings), and this supporter, along with almost every other undergarment I've tried, is simply too "Tall", for lack of a better word. I wish they'd make a LOW CUT version 1-2 inches shorter. I'm right between a Small and Medium so I got Smalls...but it still happens. If you prefer low-cut garments try the boxer briefs, you can fold the waistband over and that keeps them down pretty well.

5

For men with a varicocele and/or chafing problems on long distance runs I would highly recommend this jock. I have had both problems and instead of surgery for the former and tons of vaseline for the latter I have switched to this jock and it has made a significant difference. I know get cheap shorts and cut out the mesh liners and wear this jock. It's too bad that no one has come out with a short with this jock built in.

5

This is the most comfortable running underwear I have ever worn. Now I buy cheap shorts and cut the liner out its worked better than buying running shorts. Only if RRS made a men's short with the jock built in. I have been training for a marathon and the long runs of 6mi plus result in discomfort for me. The liners built into running shorts are like loose bikini briefs offering minimal support. This jock is great.

I would buy this jock again

5

I bought this jock over the internet without seeing it. I was surprised as to how soft it was to wear. It's a good jock. Sizing us about right. It's a pity it's not made with a white waist band as that would help with white shorts. The straps are a little tight but that might improve with wear. My wife said that she didn't think this jock would give much support when she first saw me wearing it but she was wrong. It gives plenty of lift and holds everything in place. I like this product and would recommend it.

5

This is an excellent product. I like jocks because they cover only the area that needs support and don't have unnecessary fabric elsewhere, especially in the seat where it's sometimes tight and uncomfortable. The fabric of this supporter transports perspiration so well that it absolutely never feels sweaty. Overall, this is a very functional and comfortable product.

Go Back to the Original Cool Max version

1

I believe this is the third supporter RR has had in the last 10-15 years. Please go back to the first one. The cool max material with a one inch waste band. Fit perfectly. The second supporter had a larger waste band and the fit was a bit loose. But, could still wear. This third one does not fit at all. The intersection of the supporter and the leg openings is too far back. Please take a look at bringing the old one's back. Too many people have made the same comments. Mine are more than 10 years old, on their last leg, and no one should have to wear the "Bike" supporter! Thanks.

Best Jock ever

5

Most comfortable jock I've found - and I've tried about every one made. The smooth fabric is the best part - no odd synthetic weave using rubber. It does run a bit large - I have a 32-33 waste and use the small - and mine have stretched a bit over a year of use, so I have to pull the waste strap higher than before. Also - you can't use bleach when washing as it deteriorates the material. Still - a great jock that I'll buy again.

5

I have tried a lot of running shorts with vaseline and body glide and still chaff especially after mile 8. To experiment I cut out the brief from one of my running shorts and tried this jock. The last time I wore a jock was for football in HS. I have to say this jock is very comfortable compared to the old ones made of rubber and cotton. I did not chafe for the first time. It kept me dry as possible given the long distance I run. I now by cheap running shorts with good outer material and cut out the cheap mesh type briefs they have in them and just use these jock straps. Another side benefit for me has been that pain due to a varicocele I have has been greatly eleviated. The normal running shorts simply do not have enough support to help with that condition. For all you guys who might experience a dull pain have your doc check it out and if its a varicocele then this jock could help.

Almost perfect.

4

Like many have said before. The pouch is too tall. As a result, you lose support. The pouch height might be fine for someone over six foot with a tall waist line not for someone with a normal or shorter waistline. I am thinking of having mine modified on a sewing machine. On the plus side, it is very light and non chaffing. machine.

Great support

4

Great quality. Jock is provides great support. It would be better if it were not as tall. The other issue is that the pouch size should be selectable independant of the waist size. I have run a marathon in this jock and varcoceoles have been a problem in the past but that issue was greatly alleviated with this jockstrap.
