Super-light, reliable shoe

This is my second pair of Saucony's ProGrid Ride model, but my first since the second generation. I'm recovering from ACL and meniscus repair surgery (soccer injury) eight months ago. Before injury, I was training for a 50K/marathon, two-day ultra (ran 18 miles the day before injury). I'm a midfoot striker who has always worn neutral shoes and always needs a wide width. Most of my running is on concrete and paved paths, which weren't agreeing with my knee on old shoes. This shoe has lost a lot of weight in just a few generations. I think these are the lightest pair I own right now (others are Asics Gel Cumulus 15 and Brooks Ghost 5). The heel drop has decreased, too. Also, the tongue is very thin -- that's not really a good or a bad thing, just an observation. I ran 30 minutes straight for the first time in these shoes, and my knee didn't feel it the next day. The only drawback I've noticed so far is the shoe seems a little cheaply made. I'm not sure if it's because of the weight loss or the design -- it looks different in person -- but I hope that isn't the case.

Nice shoe, but not for me

3

I have a neutral foot but unfortunately I have an unusual gate to my run. Due to back problems my hips are out of alignment. This causes my right leg to be slightly twisted outward more then normal. So, my right foot is more of a duck-like look/feel. Like most (everyone), my feet are slightly different with my left foot longer than my right and slightly narrower. I bought the Saucony's based on reviews and suggestion from a friend who always runs in them. When I got them (on a Friday) the toe box on the right shoe was really narrow but not painful. On Saturday, with no break in, I did 7.5 miles. Then on Sunday, I did 6.5 miles. Everything seemed OK after both runs. However, I have developed pain in both achilles tendins AND my ankles. After a 15K run on July 4th, my feet really bothered me. I then moved to the treadmill to see if it made a difference and it did not. Yesterday, after an very casual 7.5 miles, the shoes are back in the box to be sent back. This shoe might be great for others, but not for me. At 190lbs I am moving to a Neutral+ shoe that has a bit more cushioning. I'll put up with a few more ozs over painful body parts any day!

Comfortable but caution to heel strikers

Pro Grid Ride looks almost like the Guide but don't be fooled. It's strictly for faster (7:20 per mile or better) runners who don't land hard on their heels. For me, I can three miles or shorter without problems. However, if I go longer, these shoes don't absorb enough impact & I'll have sore feet, plantar fasciae, &, to lesser extent, knees. I can run in Guides for any distance & not have any soreness. Good race shoe for Masters or older runner who still some speed in the tank for a quality 5k.

Cushion + 8mm heel to toe drop= heaven

5

Previously ran in broos launch (10mm drop). Good shoe with some knee pain with increased mileage. Also discontinued. Nike Pegasus (12+ drop) my foot started going numb and IT flare up! This is a great shoe with a wide toe box, good cushion, and 8mm drop! This isn't a minimalist shoe. I use this for my longer runs (8-12 mies). iT much better and no numbness. If you want light shoe with good cushion this is it!!!! If looking for a less cushion 8 mm drop shoe try new balance 890v2 or 3.

What I was looking for

4

I was looking for a light, comfortable, cushioned shoe as an alternative to the Mizuno Wave Rider series which I have been using for the last several years. I run about 25 miles per week. This is my first pair and I've run about 125 miles in them so far, alternating with a pair of Wave Riders. The ProGrid 5 have held up well, and I've purchased a second pair for when these wear out.

Same great Saucony comfort

5

This is my second pair of this model; got while they are still available and on sale. I have been running about 20-25 miles a week, but more when training for a long race. Run on mixed pavement and gravel. Very lightweight and comfortable. I like the way they look also. No injuries. Been wearing Saucony for 10 + years and love the way they feel; no reason for me to even look at other brands.

Great trainer. Great half shoe.

5

Had this should recommended to me by a running buddy. We both had been Kinvara and Brooks Pure fans but needing something for longer training runs and doing half-marathons. Great shoe. Ran one short training run and one long training run before a half race. No break-in really needed. No tired feet. No hip pain. No knee pain. This old guy loved 'em.

Good Shoe, not Great

4

This is a very solid shoe but not a great shoe. Feels a little "flat" compared to other manufactures new shoes, in other words it is not springy. While I think it is a good shoe, I will try something new in three months. I usually wear Nike but I felt the need to check out other offerings.

Love it.

5

This shoe is everything I need and nothing I don't. Enough cushion for almost any runner but light and flexible enough to spend some time on the track. Nice middle ground on the fit, too. I fall between a D and EE and the EE fit great. Wonderful shoe!

Awesome update

5

I was looking forward to this update and I like it much more than the Ride 4. a little more roomy, lighter and with less heel. I hope they stick with this cut for while.

Slightly roomier version of the Kinvara

3

This shoe has been transformed to be pretty much the Kinvara, but a little bit wider with a tiny bit more cushioning. I was hoping for the prior version of the Ride, but with less drop from heel to toe.
