Love 'em but they wear out way, way, w-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-y too quickly in the outer heel area. All three pairs did the exact same thing. Too bad because I really felt good in these shoes. What'sup Saucony?

Wonderful shoe. Perfect - ran 2 hours first time out on pavement and they are an excellent blend of stability, cushioning, and just the right height in the heel for wearing orthotics. I tried and rejected the latest Adrenaline, Nike Elite, Brooks 769, Nike Lunarglide+ - nope, the Sauconys won, hands down. The first jog from the store and they felt just right. They did squeak a bit with my orthotics w/o sock liner, but strewing a bit of fine dust in the shoe fixed that completely.

I have worn Sauconys for about 5 years now and love them. I had several versions of the Omni and then switched to the Guide when it first came out and thought I had found the perfect shoe. So I was a little apprehensive about switching to the Guide 2 after reading a few of the reviews here. However, after 2 weeks and about 30 miles on my new Guide 2's I have to say they're just as good as the originals in my book. My experience may be affected by the fact that I take out the shoe liner insert and put my orthotics in the shoes so the stability may be affected by the orthotic but the cushioning is very good on these shoes and the stability is perfect for me even if my orthotic is affecting it, which it obviously must be. Some have noted in their reviews that they sized down half a size in going from the Guide 1 to the Guide 2. I tried them on at a store and decided to stay at the same size and its working fine for me. I think I'm kind of right between sizes so any slight increase

Loved the Guide 1. This was not the same shoe for me. A quarter mile out on my first run I felt something almost sharp poking the inside, forward, part of my right heal. After 3 miles I had knee pain and pain on my outer left thigh. Back on my old Guide 1s the next day - no problems. Used the RoadRunner perfect fit guarantee and swapped out for some Mizuno Inspire 5s - so far so good. I also went to amazon and picked up another pair of the guide 1s for 44.00 dollars.

Great shoe for mild pronation. I have tried several shoes and usually get knee pain after 2-3 miles but with these shoes and insoles I have been running pain-free!! Light, breathable, soft and cushiony feel. I already bought a 2nd pair!

It is really interesting as many of runners chose the highest rating, but still there are several folks rated the worst. As a runner tried both Guide 1 and 2, it is obvious that 2nd version is softer due to thicker midsole and insole. However it is also true that this model is firmer than ordinary Stability Trainers. So if you strike your foot relatively harder, you may experience pains (in fact my wife has lots of pains with that model but no complaint after switching to Asics Kayano). Instead if you are like mid foot striker or land gently (e.g. Chi-Runner), This model is for you (and for me too). The positive side is its last which is narrower at mid foot and heel, so this model can be used not only LSD but also speedworks including intervals. However I agree that the 2nd version is 1/2 size bigger than the predcessor, which will confuse consumers especially who buy through internet. Just my 2cent withdom.

I've been wearing these for a couple of years now and this is not the same shoe. First, the heal cup has a different cut (higher on the ankle), and the sizing isn't the same (1/2 size longer). Also, the last two pairs I have had have torn where the upper mesh meets the bottom. This was never a problem with the tighter mesh on the older models. Too bad this was a good shoe.

My first running shoe was a Saucony almost 15 years ago and then I switched to Nike Air Structure Triax. The early Air Structure Triax was a great shoe but after becoming increasinbly frustrated with all the 'improvements' over the years I tried the Saucony Guide 2. My first thought after trying it on was where have you been all my life? I have not had a shoe feel so comfortable and natural as this shoe in a long time. I no longer have to 'work' the shoe from foot strike to toe off, the shoe does it for me naturally as it should.

These are probably the worst shoes I have ever owned. The first day out I suffered a tight Achilles tendon and Shin splints. I put them away for a week and ran on my old shoes with no problems. I tried again and within a few miles the problems reemerged. Again I put them aside for a week and all was back to normal. I thought I would give them one more try, LOSER!! Now my left quad has tightened up. I give up, they are headed back to Roadrunner. I weigh 200 lbs. and am 6 ft. tall and have been running for over thirty five years. Do Not Buy these shoes. Tue, February 17,2009:
Saucony took the best shoe ever (or so i thought) and made it heavy as a rock, hard as a board, and very uncomfortable. The guide 2 is harder, heaver, less flexible, and the heal cup pushes very uncomfortably on the back of my heal. i ran a couple shorter runs in them (4-5miles) and one 10mile run in them and I really love (ed) Saucony and really hate this shoe. regretting not stocking up on the old model

The Guide was my first Saucony. I think the Guide 2 it is great. I switch between this and the Adrenaline - both have a sleak fit and work great.

Terrible update! these shoes are now to narrow. Even the 2E is not as wide as the regular Progrid Guide and 1/2 size larger is to long. I am back at the Progrid Guide while supplies last and then I might switch to Nike Triax 12 or when the 13 comes out.
