Women's SALOMON® XR CROSSMAX GUIDANCE :: Motion control and stable cushioning come together in what many believe is the training shoe of 2011. The women's Salomon® XR Crossmax Guidance was made to match the specific needs of high mileage runners without weighing them down. Lightweight and lightening fast, the highest levels of speed are now within your reach. 10.6 ounces
I regularly run on a combination of trail and the shoulder of the road roughly 5-6 rolling miles. I ordered a 6.5, my regular shoe size as I normally do with Salomon (I wear a 7 with other sneakers) and the shoe seemed to fit fine. There was plenty of room in the toe box and heal. I should mention I use spine stabilizer orthodics and not the insole that came with the shoe. I am an over pronator with high arches.
At first, the shoe felt good and quite "springy". I then started to feel like there were stones under my arches and ultimately was uncomfortable running. Perhaps the arch area of the shoe was too narrow and my arches were hitting the sides of the shoe but I ended up with a big blister on the outside of each arch. Unfortunately the shoes will have to go back. Too bad, I really thought they were going to be a great, fast running trail shoe.

Couple drawbacks, but good stability.
I purchased these shoes because I over-pronate and have low arches. These shoes do run true to size, I didn't have to go up half a size as is usually the advice when buying running shoes. The toebox is large and I've never had any issues with toes hitting the front, top, or sides. However, the instep has been uncomfortable - they are meant to hug around your instep to keep the shoe in place with a flexible band, but in one of the spots where the laces begin, the added material squeezes too hard against the bone (tarsals) at the top of my instep and gets sore during my run. This is only on my left shoe, I've never had this issue with the right shoe. It could just be my pair, or my foot, best to sample these shoes first before committing. To be fair though, they have kept my form stable from overpronation and I've not dealt with any symptoms from that. I've been able to run on both trail and road, though the grooves in the soles grab pebbles pretty easily so going to pavement can sometimes be irritating listening to the scraping/clicking sound.
First, let me explain I have very poor feet. They are super flat and my ankles turn in. Finding shoes that will not hurt and will perform the way I need and want without weeks of break-in time are very rare. I was so suprised that when I put these on and walked one of our local mountian bike trails, my feet did not hurt and the shoes did so well, including the in soles that come with the shoe. I purchased these for a trail walk/run I am going on in Bryce Canyon in October and needed to find the shoes that will work. I have found them and my Feet are Happy! So far I do not have any complaints. I usually wear an 8 1/2 in a New Balance and did have to drop down to an 8 in the Solamon. Thank you!
